Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not bad, but wouldn't use again. These were ok, but I wouldn't use them again. While they looked nice enough, they were much more varied in size and shape that I expected and weren't just bark. There were large sticks (sometimes 10" in length) and long roots that you had to break into pieces if you wanted to spread things evenly and cleanly. Maintenance is more work as well since the larger pieces will work into the soil but you don't necessarily want your soil filled with large wood pieces. Good quality mulch looks just as nice and is easier to use and maintain. You will also use less mulch if you go that route because it distributes better.

Labrador retriever loves eating them too, although this is an unwanted consequence of having such a beautiful and apparently canine appetizing bark nugget.

Two months later, I purchased another 20 bags which were a huge disappointment! The "nuggets" we're more like shredded cedar mulch, full of twigs and random wood pieces. What a mess. I returned them all. Where is quality control for this product???

Any idea how many sq ft a 56L bag covers?

From my experience, a bag covers about 40 square feet for a thick coat.  You can spread a thin coat as far as you'd like.

What grade of bark chips are these? Small, medium, or large?

Medium to large. They're thick and hearty. They range from 2 inches up to 5 inches long. Thick too...like a deck of playing cards for some of them. I'm thoroughly impressed. I wanted to get these to replace the finer mulch that always seems to dissolve/dissipate after a few years.
