Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10 gal. 2 HP Ultra Quiet and Oil-Free Air Compressor I have only had this compressor a couple months so far. I use it for jobs in my garage only, that do not include any commercial type work. Having said that, I really enjoy how quiet it runs and that it can not be heard inside the house during use. I replaced a 25 gallon compressor with this one and find it keeps up with any job I have asked of it so far. It's "footprint" is small and fits into most any place one might want to use. It came on UPS, very well boxed for shipping, arriving within 5 days of when I ordered it from the Home Depot web site. Very little assembly was required ; putting on the wheels, which are solid requiring no air in them.....a plus in my book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Purchase, Simple to assemble, and wow, when I plugged it in and turned it on it was so quiet. I was able to talk with someone right next to me without yelling. I could barely hear it just inside the back door. So much less stress. I own two other compressor that are in various states of repair. A pancake compressor and another older unit. You can hear these all over the neighborhood. Controls are simple and the tank size is adequate so that it will go for quite a while before it starts to pump back up. When it starts up I don't jump out of my skin from the load noise. Quick to pressure up. Takes only a half a minute to fill from start up. Compact and easy to move around.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quiet oil less compressor as advertised I would have to say this 10 gallon oil less air compressor is as quiet as advertised. It's as quiet as my two other 12 gallon belt drive electric motor/pump air compressors. Cuts in a 90 psi and cuts out at 120 psi. Compact and easy to tuck into a corner of your garage. Air lines throughout are similar to air brake line material and piped with push on/pull off fittings. There are a few cons that are minor: No idea what fitting the two supplied air couplers take. Changed out the two couplers with one universal and one A style coupler. The other con is the air will leak down to zero after awhile with the compressor off. Haven't had time to pinpoint the source of leak.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the extra $$$ I looked at a number of options for a home-use compressor. This model ended up at the top of my list and I'm glad I made the purchase. In a home environment, where noise is a concern, having a quiet compressor helps a lot. I considered other brands which offered higher CFM output, but I knew that I'd never use those compressors if I had to be concerned with irritating friends and family. This compressor fits well under my workbench and is very quiet, as advertised. So far my uses have been airing tires and cleaning dust and chips with a blower. I plan to buy some light-weight shop tools and a nail gun or two. A very good investment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Remarkably Quiet - Responsive Tech Support I unpacked the compressor, assembled and connect to outlet, hit the switch. Powww, fire flew from starting capacitor housing and breaker tripped. Reset breaker, turn on compressor switch , nothing but a hummm. I figure the start capacitor blew. Called tech support late friday left message, they called back on a Saturday. Short story, i didnt return for exchange. Ordered start capacitor on CA web site. Recieved by snail mail. Removed start capacitor cover. REAL PROBLEM! Factory pinched the wire with the cover screw. Capacitor lead wire was burnt thru. Installed new capacitor. Compressor works fine, holds air for days. Very quite!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Definitely very quiet compressor. I returned the first one because it would not hold air, leaked... Definitely very quiet compressor. I returned the first one because it would not hold air, leaked in multiple places. Very poor quality check before leaving factory. Spending almost $400 for a compressor, it should not leak. The second one I got leaks as well, but not as bad. I haven't decided if I should try 1 more and keep the best of the 3?? A pain in the butt to return, taking wheels off and repacking in the new box that just arrived. I do like the compressor and would recommend it, but you need to be willing to return a few to get a decent working one. You hear that California Air Tools? Step up your game if you want to keep selling more units.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mighty Mouse saves the day I actually purchased two of these compressors to replace the noisy units we had from years back. They are so loud and obnoxious sounding. This compressor is a joy to work with. It will fill up air in my truck tires or power light air tools. I bought one for my brother who has a car collection, and he loves it. It is easy to roll around and the storage of 10 gallons is enough that it doesn't cycle on/off frequently. I would highly recommend this compressor for anyone who needs a unit for their home, job site, or small shop. It would be perfect in a race car trailer. I cannot impress upon you how quiet and efficient this compressor is. You might be paying a little more than the noisy ones, but it is well worth it. Like the expression goes; you get what you pay for.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from disappointed after 3rd month of use initial impression i really liked it for my small garage. i did the recommended steps to start up confirmed it held pressure no air leaks. after 3rd month using exhaust hose fitting at on/off switch broke leaving threaded broken fitting within switch. i used broken tube extractor to try and remove from on/off switch but broke the brittle casting. I called manufacturer and left messages over forth of july week but never received call back. i ended up returning for in store credit and am greatful Home Depot was willing to help with manufacturer defect return.

is the compressor 240v?

is the compressor 240v?
Asked by: bobdove
No the compressor is wired for 120v. I bought this compressor and love it. But with that said... I just started having a problem and have not had the time to contact California Air Tools. The problem that just started is that sometimes the compressor will fill the tank and then the pressure relief valve will trigger.... releasing pressure from the tank, thus the pump continues to operate trying to compensate for the pressure loss. I manually reset the relief valve and it works fine for a little while but is usually triggered again at some point. I believe that the relief valve just needs to be replaced. No big deal, easy access and basic tools. The bigger problem is if you leave your work area while the compressor is operating and the relief valve is triggered.... the compressor will continue to operate and overheat... pretty sure causing some other damage. I still highly recommend this unit. Very quiet, (like a Rolls Royce next to a Diesel Truck quiet) recovers quickly, well built (aside from this faulty valve) and just a great design.

Can I run Shop tools with this compressor? Pneumatic tools, like inpact wrenches or air ratchets or air drills?
Asked by: jim
the compressor will not run for any extended period of time. I was very disappointed with it. It seems like it builds up head pressure and shuts off and will not start up again unless you unplug it, bleed off all the air and start over.

Can you use this compressor to fill a 20 gallon storage tank to help with capacity

Can you use this compressor to fill a 20 gallon storage tank to help with capacity
Asked by: Chief
The tank size only affects how long it takes before the compressor cycles. It has no effect on how much air the compressor will deliver. If the compressor does not produce the CFM output required by the tool you are using, once the tank pressure drops to the point where the compressor kicks on it will run constantly and the pressure will continue to drop. It may be of some help if you only use the tool in bursts.

I would think so. Make sure to get high-flow fittings. Milton V-series are fantastic, very durable and made in USA. You can also get a second "reserve" 10 gallon tank for about 50 bucks that would help if you need more volume. -Godspeed

can i run a vacuum system rated at 1.55 cfm @73psi continuously?

can i run a vacuum system rated at 1.55 cfm @73psi continuously?
Asked by: vidal
I have used the California Air compressors for years and they are fantastic units with zero problems. You have a Interesting question but your word 'Continuously' is somewhat vague. If you mean 24 hrs a day then I would say this is not the unit for you and you should look into a commercial rated unit or a unit with a larger tank to allow the pump/motors to cool down between refills. I think the on/off cycles would prematurely fail the pressure switch and possibly overheat the motor/pump unit and the moist air will cause dirt & mud build up in your vacuum system since this unit does not have a air drying feature. Compressed air creates moisture and running this moist air through a vacuum system continuously will cause the dirt debris you are vacuuming to become moist and want to stick to everything creating buildup. You might consider the 4 hp 20 or 60 gal models. The 60 gal has a air dry system, dual after coolers - air dryer, dual motor / pumps, 220 v 60 hz, > 75db with auto drain system.. where as the 40 gal does not have the air dry system and might work if you are not concerned about the dirt/mud buildup. Be sure to install which ever unit you decide in a well ventilated room to help with the motor/pump cooling process. Also note that both units I recommend are 220v versus the 110v model you are questioning so electrical requirements are different. You might consider calling California Air directly for advice as they have a great customer service team.
