I have tried three different types of chicken recipes, a beef brisket, and steak on this smoker, and every time the food turns out better and better! Cleaning up the ashes after smoking is super easy with a shop-vac. I would totally recommend this product. Easy to use!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I said I wouldn't recommend this grill, but it's still early and I may change my mind. What I do... I said I wouldn't recommend this grill, but it's still early and I may change my mind. What I don't like about it is that while it's running it produces almost zero smoke and the meat doesn't have the amount of smoke flavor that I was expecting, in fact you can barely taste any at all. I'm going to experiment with different pellets, so we'll see what happens. I made some spare ribs and although they had a perfect smoke ring you couldn't taste the smoke flavor very much. On the good side, reaching the desired temp is almost no effort for this grill. Temp seems to fluctuate back and forth about 15 or 20 degrees on either side of the set temp, which for me isn't a big deal.

I bought this model in June 2019 after devoting time to researching it. I considered other brands, primarily Traeger. However, the Traeger was more expensive and did not have as many features . Most importantly I was impressed with the reviews about Camp Chef customer service. The Traeger did not get good reviews about customer service. I bought this model expecting that if I had any problems Camp Chef customer service would help me get through it. Assembly was easy. A friend was visiting while I unboxed it and the two of us had no problems putting it together. Directions were pretty much not necessary. It appears well built. The legs were uneven. Paint and finish was good. Packaging was very good. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. It was easy to get it to work following the clear easy to understand instructions. I broke it in as suggested by the instructions. I thought it would be interesting to set the internal temperature at the various settings to see how well the unit worked. At temperatures of 300 degrees and above the variance was only 10 degrees each way at the most (290-310). At the “Lo Smoke to 225 degree” ranges the temperatures were everywhere. At Lo Smoke which is supposed to be 160 degrees I got temperatures up to 285 degrees. I NEVER was able to obtain a constant temperature of anything below 220 degrees. In other words the unit did not work at temperatures below 300 degrees. I contacted the Company. They sent me a new controller. It had two probe inserts rather than the one it came with. Replacing the control panel was quick and easy. Unfortunately the new controller was no better than the first. I contacted the company again. This time they sent me a new internal thermometer. It was also easy to replace. Again I had the same problems as before. It did not work at low temperatures. I contacted customer service again. They told me they were going to have an “engineer” test a new controller and internal thermometer together to make sure I got correct temperatures since it appeared that one or the other was malfunctioning. A week or two went by with no new parts. I asked when I could expect to get the new parts. Contemporaneously with my inquiry I was sent another new controller. And within a few days after that they sent me an entire assembly---basically everything except the barrel. The entire assembly included the auger, the pellet compartment, a 4th new controller and everything electrical. Once again I replaced everything using the new large assembly. I was still unable to get the heat below 300 degrees. I had the same exact problem no matter what parts I moved around or replaced. The unit always worked perfectly at 300 degrees and above. But I was never able to get any sustained consistent heat at any setting of 250 or less. All of my testing was conducted using Camp Chef “competition blend” pellets. The outdoor temperatures were moderate every time I tried the get the unit to work. The outside temperature was never over 85 and never less than 60. I made adjustments to the vent cap and raised it as high as it would go to try and reduce the heat. That didn’t work either. Maybe I am not cut out to be a “smoker” kind of guy. I smoked steak, Chicken, and hamburgers. The Chicken was the best by far. But the steak and burger was not particularly different than barbeque. I also tried a pizza since everyone said pizza was awesome off the smoker. I could not tell the difference between pizza off the smoker or pizza from the oven in the house. Nor could the other people who tried it. I bought my smoker on sale at Home Depot for $424. There is a 90 day return policy with Home Depot. The last set of parts I received from Camp Chef was about 10 days from the expiration date to return the unit. Ultimately I gave up after trying everything Camp Chef suggested including the use of all the parts they gave me. I retuned the unit on about day 88 and received a full credit from Home Depot. Based upon my experience I find it hard to believe these units can give consistent heat below 300 degrees. My unit never came even remotely close. I tried 4 different controllers and three different internal thermometers. Together none of them worked. I spent far more time working on the unit and testing the unit than I did actually cooking food with it. And, I want through two bags of pellets trying to get it to work. I admit the customer service was good. But they can hand me all the parts in the world while smiling but it means nothing if the product sucks. This product sucked for me. After returning the unit I emailed Camp Chef to tell them of my experience. Their response: “We are sorry that you were not happy with your grill”. If you buy this product I would strongly suggest you test it at all the different temperatures to make sure it works.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Food comes out very tasty. So far I've smoked beef... Food comes out very tasty. So far I've smoked beef ribs, whole chicken, chicken wings, and arctic char (as well as some veggies).meat temperature probe pretty much stopped working properly right away, I just use an instant one when it seems close to being done. Grill temp fluctuates.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great upgrade from electric / wood I've been considering upgrading from my electric (less smoke / size and not set and forget) & charcoal/wood "mountain" smokers (not set and forget, too long to get set up). A couple friends have this or the woodwind and rave about them. Finally did some reading about how electric smokers smolder the wood so you don't get a good smoke ring or as much smoke flavor and I wanted easy, set and forget type cooking. After tons of review reading I settled on the DLX24 and couldn't be happier I did. It arrived quickly (4 days) and is really well packed. I got a pleasant surprise when I opened the box in that there are a lot of Woodwind features added to this which aren't pictured. The window to the pellet hopper, the bottle opener, the handle on the pellet hopper have all been upgraded over the picture. Setup was quick and easy - was able to do myself and get it seasoning in about 1/2 hour. Didn't have any issue with dents, screws stripping or any things that I've read in other reviews. The only minor issue I had was I didn't catch that when turning the dial to "Feed" you also have to hold the bypass button in for 3 seconds for it to begin feeding. User error and no big deal. Since seasoning I've done porterhouse pork chops (seared on my weber kettle to finish), spatchcock whole chicken, pork shoulder and wings on consecutive days - all were best I've done using any other smoker. I have a bluetooth temp probe and the temperature probe on the DLX controller is spot on with the probe I put on grill with a grill clip. Cooking was truly set it and forget it - temps stayed within 10 degrees-ish of where I'd set it, when it looks like it's getting a bit higher than set it'll begin to drop as the auger has stopped, when it gets a bit below set temp don't worry, auger will start to warm things up. Couldn't be easier. I've done a couple "modifications" to it which have really helped, first I built a shelf between the legs for storage, the legs have holes pre-drilled as I'm sure they're the same legs used on Woodwind which comes with a bottom shelf. A couple pieces of leftover deck board and I was in business. I also bought a box of fire bricks and lined the bottom of the smoker with them, this will be used year round in WI and I wanted to make sure it held heat well and was stable and didn't run through pellets like crazy in the winter. I drilled out the temp probe hole a bit to more easily accommodate multiple probes going through the hole. Lastly I picked up a 6" joint knife to scrape down the drip tray and keep it clean - I'm going to try putting some no-stick grill mats down there next smoke as well to make clean up even easier. Overall, HIGHLY recommended!
