It is not excessively loud, and I cannot imagine my neighbor lady would hear it with my garage doors closed. It takes about 10 minutes to fill, and doesn't turn on too often when standing by. The handle is a bit rickety, and the box looked like a large predator got hold of it during shipping. There was a small dent/scratch on the tank, and the air filter housing was bent (nothing a hammer, short piece of oak dowel, and vise couldn't fix...but loses a star for being a pain in the neck). Tire pressures are correct, wood tools are dust free, and my garage floor is as dust free as ever. If it breaks, I'll update it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big power in a small package! I needed a bigger compressor for heavy duty nailing and air-driven finishing tools. We’ve had perfect performance from our little Campbell Hausfeld compressor for over seven years now and it’s still running strong. So when the time came to upgrade, I went with the name I trust: Campbell Hausfeld. Despite being ravaged by brutal shipping (see photo) the tank and all fittings were undamaged. That speaks well for the sturdiness of the machine and the protective packaging! Assembly is easy: hand-tighten two bolts with plastic knobs to attach the handle. Wheels are attached by heavy-duty axles with 17mm nuts. Both operations only take a couple of minutes. That’s all there is to it! I fired it up and it sprang to life. No telltale signs or sounds of trouble from the horrendous shipping. It only took four and a half minutes to reach 150PSI. The auto-off switch operated perfectly too, preset from the factory. With the handle and 10 inch solid wheels, it’s very easy to move around the garage. The heavy duty 12 gauge cord is 7 feet long. It’s very stable and I never felt like it would tip over even when stretching my air-hose to its limits. The outlet is on the same side as the rubber feet, and those rubber feet are not going to budge. You’d have to try hard to tip this thing over. My other Campbell Hausfeld compressor is small but mighty. I’ve had it for over seven years and we use it frequently for many tasks: filling car and bike tires, inflating balls and recreational / exercise equipment, light air brush painting for touch ups, light duty brad nailing, dusting off my workbench, etc. Despite living in the un-heated garage during midwestern winters it has survived without fail. That speaks highly for the brand and all indications are this larger one will follow that fine tradition. The fit and finish are very good, even pretty! All the paint is uniformly thick and smooth. All the long welds on the tank are very uniform, so I suspect they were done robotically, which is good for reliability! The wheel braces and handle shaft welds were done by hand: first spot welded in three places, then roughly filled. If I was picky about non-crucial details, that would be about the only thing I could criticize on this machine. The motor shroud does more than just look cool. It provides clear information about the compressor model and specs. It places the gauges up high near eye level so they are easy to read. That’s always good! Some other models I’ve seen hide specs or gauges in dark recesses which makes me run for a manual or a flashlight to see if the thing will operate my tools. No problem with this one. The specs, gauges and controls are on top and easy to see. The shroud also protects me from touching the hot compressor head, so it’s a nice safety feature too! If you’ve ever bumped into a recently operating compressor motor, you know what I mean! Outlet pressure is controlled by a large knurled knob that’s easy to turn. It is not the quietest compressor out there, but I don’t care. If I’m air-nailing or running sanders, I’m wearing hearing protection anyway so the noise isn’t a factor. Besides, when I’m using the big framing nailer, I’m far enough away that the sound isn’t oppressive, especially outdoors where sound doesn’t reverberate. Framing nailers are louder and that’s a high-impact noise, not a steady sound like the compressor. I have looked long and hard at some of the “quiet” compressors, but noticed from some reviews they have had reliability / performance and QC issues. Since I operate this in my home shop where I have much louder tools, noise is no problem. Besides, If I had to choose between quiet and reliable, I’d pick reliable. That’s why I chose Campbell Hausfeld. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great compressor for the home shop Compared to... I am comparing this to my Makita MAC700 which has been my home shop and jobsite compressor for about 8 years, and to the 200 gallon industrial leviathan at work. The former is a tough little machine, but designed for solo framers and finish carpenters, I've pushed it beyond it's capacity. The latter serves an auto shop, an art studio, a welding shop and my wood shop, and it could run a jackhammer. Hits the Sweet Spot This Campbell Hausfeld DC26000 compressor is just about perfect for the serious home based shop: inflating tires and basketballs, painting, running pinners, staplers and nailers, cut-off wheels, and impact wrenches, and blowing the dust off of your workbench or your clothes. It can also handle a big spray painting job as long as no one else is using air tools at the same time. It would probably keep up with a small jitterbug sander, but serious gearheads might want a bigger compressor for sanding that Chevelle Super Sport back to bare metal. It WILL NOT run a jack hammer, but you already knew that. Noise This is a moderately noisy machine, but because of it's capacity, it doesn't cycle very often. In my home shop I am usually wearing ear protection, so I don't really notice the noise. The family says they hear the machine when it cycles, but that it isn't any worse than the dishwasher or the washer/dryer, or the table saw, and it is quieter than my jointer, planer, or chopsaw. No Waiting At 150psi, 26 gallons of air is a generous supply for most home shop tasks. In an afternoon of puttering around with my 18 gauge nailer, I never used up the air reserve whereas the Makita would have cycled 10 or 15 times under the same use. Spray painting uses more air, but it kept up with my sprayer and stayed below 50% duty cycle (by that I mean that the compressor was running less than 50% of the time). I never had to stop painting because of the air supply. Short Cycle From empty, it takes about 12 minutes to completely fill the tank. The motor cuts out when the tank pressure reaches 150psi, and cuts back in when it drops to 120. It takes about 3 minutes to re-pressurize to 150. The limit switches are behind a protective cover and secured with a generous dab of hotmelt glue. You shouldn't ever need to mess with them, and ought not unless you are thoroughly qualified, but they can be adjusted. Maintenance The most common maintenance task, checking and changing the oil has been eliminated in this oil-less design, so the only task you really need to worry about is draining the tank regularly. C-H recommends that you do so daily and if you live in a damp climate, that's good advice. Water does tend to collect in compressor tanks...all compressor tanks because...physics. Over time...a lot of time, water can corrode the tank from the inside and lead to failure, so shut down the compressor and drain the tank at the end of the work day, close the drain valve and turn it back on the next day and the tank should last... Drain It The drain valve on this compressor is on the bottom of the tank and yeah, it is a bit awkward to reach, but that'is where it has to be if you are actually going to drain out the water. The valve is easy to operate. Just under the compressor and pull the lever forward to drain the tank. Drain the tank daily. Check the air filter and the safety pop-off valve weekly. Keep the machine clean and it ought to last a good long time. It has a soft start motor and runs fine on a 15 amp circuit, but it is getting it's own 20amp outlet and a permanent home in the front corner of my garage shop where it fits perfectly between the garage door track and the exterior wall. I'll extend the hard-piped airlines and this will nicely supply dedicated airline branches for general shop air, filtered/regulated air for painting, and a regulated quick release outlet outside for the kids to pump up their bike tires. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Awesome purchase This air compressor is awesome. I have used it to run some air tools fixing some farm equiptment. I also used it to do a remodleing job that I did. It runs very quiet. It also doesn't run very often do to the big 26 gallon tank. The compressor is light enough to move around when it needs to be. It is very durable and reliable. I would recommend it to anyone. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
