What cement board or what other product do i use for 16" x 32" porcelain tile on the shower wall?

    Asked by: Gogo
CGC Durock Cement Board is used in bathrooms, especially in tub surrounds and showers. The limitation is not specific to tile size but the weight of the installed finish system. A maximum installed weight of the finish system should not exceed 15 psf. For more details, visit cgcinc.com under the tile and flooring installation section.

Can this be used in an indoor pool area? We just moved into our new home and they have carpet on the walls over plywood and we hate it. We are looking for a suitable alternative that can stand up to the humidity? Also is it $36.95 for 1 sheet of the skid

    Asked by: D Pires
From the Durock Brochure (page 8) at usg.com; Swimming Pool Enclosures: USG Durock® cement board systems may be used for the walls and ceilings around indoor swimming pools. Consideration shall be given to adequate ventilation in plenums and corrosion protection of metal hangers and framing members. Note: Durock has to be finished, but cannot be finished like regular drywall, you will have to treat like an exterior wall finish or completely tile the wall. Installed gas insert in brick fireplace. Used pan head screws to attach Durock to steel studs (as instructed at HD) for new tiles. Durock does not sit flat due to the screw heads. What can be done to make the Durock surface level for tiling?

    Asked by: BR51
Wafer head screws vs. the pan head should have been used, as per our literature on our website cgcinc.com, also Home Depot carries Durock Screws. The pan heads that you used would probably not be corrosion resistant. Because the Durock is alkaline, you should be using corrosion resistant screws. Our recommendation would be to replace the screws with wafer heads, in addition wafer heads are flat on the top, so easier to cover.

    Asked by: Anonymous
CGC Durock® Brand Cement Board is a strong, water durable tile base for tub and shower areas. Also an ideal underlayment for tile on floors and countertops in new construction and remodeling. Board is readily applied over wood or steel framing spaced 406 mm (16") o.c. with corrosion-resistant wood or steel screws or hot-dipped galvanized roofing nails. After joints are treated, ceramic wall or floor tile is applied using latex fortified mortar or Type 1 organic adhesive. The weight restriction is 10 lbs/sq.ft. with a maximum tile size of 18” x 18”.

I am putting a gas insert into our wood fireplace. Can I install cement board over the existing brick, then cement new "ledge stone brick" onto that?

    Asked by: Anonymous
CGC Durock Next Gen Cement Board Panels are noncombustible and heat resistant but should not be exposed to sustained temperatures greater than 93C and must also be securely fastened to framing (fasten to studs spaced 16" o.c. with fasteners 8" o.c.). If the temperature from the gas insert will not exceed 93C and you can securely fasten the Durock Panels to the framing through the brick, then it would be the perfect substrate for your ledge stone.

What do you use to cover seams between two boards?

    Asked by: Anonymous
Prefill all joints, as well as outside corners of countertops, with latex-fortified mortar or Type 1 organic adhesive and then immediately embed Durock Next Gen Tape and level joints. Use Durock Next Gen Tape for strongest joints and the best bond.
