Rated 5 out of 5 by from Broke like a charm! Honestly it worked just as I expected it too! A coworker of yours helped me perforate it down the middle so once slightly folded it could stand on its own at the bottom of the GM Hill so I was able to smash my GT Snow racer through it at max velocity, on impact it shattered into pieces and other than my sprained pinky toe which is totally my fault from my poorly executed barrel roll, the drywall was as lightweight as indicated! Excellent destruction at an affordable price :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product, improvement for almost anyone Trying to make this short, so here goes: Upsides: Definitely lighter than normal 1/2" drywall. Also stronger. Downsides: A bit harder to cut. The materials they put in it for strength and lightness must be a bit tougher. I dull blades faster when scoring boards to break. NOT flexible. Most of the time that's helpful, ie ceilings, etc but if you have a tight spot and you were counting on this to flex as much as a normal sheet of drywall does, you're wasting your time. It's nearly as rigid as 1/2 " plywood. Overall, I love this stuff, especially as a DIYer who doesn't most of his work solo. I've hung about 10 of these so far at my house, ceilings and walls, and I like it so much I keep bugging the local HD to get me 4X12 sheets of this before I have to re-board my living room :)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Very Good Bought 136 sheets to do my 1250sqf addition, I would never buy this product again. Its light and easy to handle but its not very durable and the face paper on several sheets were torn from a sealed bundle. Butt-joints, what a pain, inconsistent thickness was a big problem, in some spots the difference was over 3/16" and don't forget the many air hole in the sheet, the screw goes right through or the edge of the board breaks off. I spent a great deal of time fixing the dry wall before mudding. Scoring the dry wall, didn't perform well here either, often breaking large chunks off the back side making a divot in one sheet rendering that edge unusable, preventing this required 3-4 passes with the knife but this cause the paper to lift along the edge, again another butt-joint problem. It did however, accept the screws well without the face paper breaking through. Measuring the dry wall, hold your tape 3-4 inches down from the tapered edge, I found the dry wall to be shy of 8 feet, that could put you cut from the factory edge off as mush as a 1/4 inch!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not as durable as the regular stuff I'm an experienced DIY'er who gutted by first floor and installed this drywall. Haven't been happy with it's durability. When hanging pictures, I find I can often push the nail into through the drywall without needing a hammer. When a chair or something falls against it, it leaves a dent or chip. Had I known this, I would have opted for something heavier and more durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from above the panels were ok...except I thought I would get a 20% discount if I bought 40 or more which I did...it turned out that the fine printing said pickup in stores only, even though I paid 75$ for the delivery...anyways...It always looks good in the ads until you find out otherwise...will research more next time that buying at home depot

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Overall acceptable Panels are lightweight but that also means they are more porous making them brittle when installing. I used them in the garage, so for that purpose, they are okay. Wouldn’t use them for inside the house applications.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As advertised; handle with care Product was as advertised; light enough that I could comfortable work with them on my own. A word of caution: I found the finished (white paper) side of the sheets would run (strips of paper would come up) with only slight friction when handling them; e.g. when shifting a pile, or when moving and stacking sheets in the work area. Try to lift and set sheets as much as possible, and be wary of bits of debris and edges sliding against one another when moving and stacking sheets.

Would this good for garage interior wall?

Asked by: Jzeng66
Hi, and thank you for your question. 1/2" UltraLight drywall is good to use on an interior wall for a garage, as long as it is taped and primed. If you have any concerns of moisture a better option would be 1/2" UltraLight Mold Tough Drywall Panel. If you have any concerns for damage, the best option is abuse resistant drywall panel which can be special ordered.

Applying this board over painted popcorn ceiling. Type and length of screws? Given the thickness of the board, i'm worried about it sagging. Since applying over existing ceiling, does it still have to perpendicular to the trusses which is 24" on centre?

Asked by: snownow
Yes, CGC Sheetrock® Brand UltraLight Board is designed to resist sagging. Screw fasten the board to the ceiling joists with 41mm long Type W screws maximum spacing 300 mm (12” o.c.). Start screws 10 mm in from the tapered edge. Use the longest length of board possible to minimize the number of butt end joints that you will have to finish, as they are difficult to feather out. If the end of the board does not land on a framing member, then use a generous bead of construction adhesive along the end of the board, firmly press into the existing ceiling and carefully install 38 mm long Type G laminating screws to hold the board in place while the adhesive sets.
