Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Beautiful Color I used this to stain my raised garden beds and it turned out really nice. Im no pro and switched between a paint brush and foam brush but it still turned out really nice. I had used the cedar color and found it to orange. The walnut bark is deep dark warm brown. Its held up great through two winters so far. It looks good even in winter, with the dark brown contrasting with the white snow.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not suitable for decks exposed to rain or snow. Very disappointed by it. I have a large cedar deck and after poor results the last time when only “environmentally friendly” products were available I decided to go back to an oil based stain / preservative. I’m a retired auto restorer & know the importance of proper preparation and the need to follow manufacturers instructions. My deck has some of the original wood, and a mix of pieces that were replaced over the years & a few that were replaced this summer but bought last summer & stored indoors. Traces of old stain were removed with Behr brand stripped and a scrub brush & then pressure washed . The entire deck was pressure washed, cleaned with a bleach & water mix and pressure washed a few times to get the wood back to looking it’s natural colour. Staining was only done after a minimum of 48 hours without rain, and only done after 2:00 PM to be sure the wood was dry thinking any overnight condensation would have evaporated. I did not stain when there was a risk of rain within 48 hours either. Most of the staining was done with a 4 inch brush but I did use a roller one day but that wasn’t very useful because many of the boards are at different heights to each other. It took roughly 3 weeks to get it all done using only nice weather that fit my plans. I think I’ve used 11 cans of stain just to give it all 1 coat and expected the stain to soak into the wood. IT HASN’T. It’s sitting on top of the wood and has already been washed away along the drip zone from my roof. It also appears to be lifting here & there after one snowfall which eventually melted. Considering how much snow we usually get in the area I’m thinking a lot of the deck will suffer from the stain floating away in the spring melt. NOTE I have also used it on vertical surfaces and so far it's still there. Woods there are pressure treated lattice, pressure treated 2 X 4's & old cedar 2 X 2's plus a few pressure treated 4 X 4's. I wrote the majority of this review about 3 weeks ago & because the original snow melted away I've been paying attention to any further washing away of the stain and have seen it fail in a few more areas. I am not looking forward to seeing what it looks like come spring.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Intense colour This stain is definitely not a ‘light’ coloured bark. It is very intense and could not see the wood grain after application. 3 stars for easy application and product quality. Be careful with the colour. I decided to strip the colour off my whole deck after a few months. Again, very dark.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product One coat and it looks great. Wood sucked it up in a few hours. Now just have to see how it wears.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great! Durability might be an issue Took a chance on this stain and it applied nicely with a brush. Love the colour. It really brightened up my 20+ year old cedar deck. The only issue with application is you can see lap marks, even when keeping a wet edge. Doing a second coat with 10-15 minutes does give it a darker, richer colour. This is my first experience with a water-based stain (yes, it's water-based even though it's called Canadian Wood Oil. Durability doesn't seem as good as oil-based. After a couple months of use there are marks from chairs dragging on it. This may be an issue with all water-based stains and not just this one. Oil-based stains really soak into the wood while water-based just sit on top with minimal penetration. Hopefully it holds up for the winter. Time will tell!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to apply with paint pad cedar color much darker than expected but gave a smooth finish, dried quickly and did very well after a heavy rain, used it on a long boardwalk, oil smell lingers for a few days, preferred old northern cedar which they discontinued, price a bit high.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product would recommend Went on great, needed two coats which isn’t unusual. Looks great but can’t give it 5 starts until I see how it takes the winter and how long before I have to stain the deck again. So far looks great and very satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great colour and easy to apply paint Great paint! it was easy to apply and the colour looks great. We will definitely be purchasing this again in the future. Only needed 1 coat too! 1 can of paint can easily do about 5 panels of 6 ft fencing.
