Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you can put in a light bulb.. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These are so incredibly simple to install and make a huge upgrade to the standard recessed lights. Simply remove the existing casing (or not so simple.. some pull out and some are hooked on with a coil, this is the hardest part of install), screw the light bulb in, plug the orange end into the light, and slide the new light into place. They work well with dimmers and the lighting is a nice soft white (not too yellow, definitely not too blue). We installed two of these in a soon-to-be finished basement and two more in our kitchen. Very happy with how it looks and how easy this was.

Very convenient in the 4 pack and the price is considerably less than single or double packs. Literally takes less than 60 seconds to install, instant on, can use with dimmer, a lot of light, and efficiency/long lasting led features. Very attractive and contemporary - I like them better then the previous baffle trim that has yellowed, cracked from heat of incandescent reflector bulb, and doesn't collect spider webs/dust bunnies. The first set that I purchased had a thin gasket around the trim that I thought would help with heat loss; the new ones didn't come with a gasket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Economical replacement [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These white recessed LED trims will fit 5 inch and 6 inch recessed fixtures. You no loner have to buy those standard, high wattage bulbs to get the light you need. This LED technology saves you money over it's many years life time, and gives you the same light. Easy to use, just screw the Edison base into the socket and then insert the 2 springs into the clips in the recessed fixture housing, and push up to the ceiling. Makes a clean stylish look.

Not a horrible buzzing but it's noticeable. No noise issues when switched back to a basic SPST toggle switch. I've used Chinese ebay LED bulbs with old non-led dimmers and had no issues so I'm disappointed with this setup. The light output quality is absolutely awesome though. I trashed the boxes on the lights and dimmer switch so I'm stuck with these now. Also used the commercial electric airtight housings that installed super easy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beware this product! I'm a contractor and have installed many hundreds of recessed cans. I loved the price of these LED inserts. I bought around 60 of these inserts for my whole house remodel. It's now about 3 months into using them and I have 7 dead lights and 5-6 that humm fairly loudly On the upstairs level of my home. The area with the biggest problem is the dining room where they are on for longer periods of time. That being said, I have shallow housings that are airtight and well insulated. My guess is that these inserts cannot handle trapped heat very well. While they are LED, they still generate a fair amount of heat but not so much that they become too hot to handle. I'm guessing cheap internal parts that degrade quickly with heat. I returned the entire upstairs level lights and will try a different brand. So far, no noticeable problems downstairs where the cans are deeper and uninsulated.

Very pleased, easy to installl, I replaced 8 lights in our kitchen in about 20 minutes. We were using CFL bulbs that took about 10 minutes to warm up, and then did not produce as much light as these. I am going to replace all of our recessed lights with these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5 Year Manufacturer Warranty [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the best invention for older homes with spot lights. The lights are very simple to install just remove the old one and screw in the extension wire then attach the housing to the existing can with the spring tabs. The Watt Equivalence is 65 and 2700K soft white light at 650 Lumens which is a soft light perfect for over a bar or counter area.

After reading 30+ reviews it's unanimous they are awesome and easy to install. No one has mentioned one issue. I placed 20 of these in my home and 30 in my parents. We are very happy with them. Only 4 stars because they have an odd click as they warm up and cool down. Our home is quiet so we hear it. When the kids come through the kitchen, you don't hear it. I would recommend these to every one but it is an interesting issue. Now I need to figure out what company to invest in... these will take over the lighting market.

Buzzing

Asked by: JB02
Yes, they buzz with the Lutron dimmers. I believe it's coming from the driver circuitry in the top part of each light (this has nothing to do with whether or not they are solid state, often the humming is the AC power running through the driver transformer coil and creating magnetic resonance for any nearby flimsy metal parts). I've checked the Lutron compatibility and it doesn't specifically mention these lights as being compatible, but it should still be OK. The GE compatibility list does include the switch you have as being compatible (153P instead of 153PH, but that's just a difference in packaging). I have the MACL-153M and I also get buzzing. I have around 15 of these lights, so I've got a pretty good feel for how these respond to the Lutron dimmer (perhaps it's the same with all dimmers, not sure). Most of these lights don't buzz/hum too loud when you first get them. But each is different. Out of the 15 I got, most were pretty quiet, two or three were fairly loud, and the rest were somewhere in between. I returned/replaced all of the loud ones and it got to the point where it was just mildly annoying. Kind of like the buzz you get from slightly older florescent fixtures. But over the course of two or three months, a number of them have become quite annoyingly loud again. If you had music playing you wouldn't notice. But with a quiet house it's very annoying. To bad about the buzz, because otherwise I like them quite a bit. Good price and I haven't had any fail yet. Also the dimming works decently well once the upper and lower trim on the Lutron is adjusted.

Can they be used with dimmer switch? Type?

Asked by: Morty
The dimmer switch must be an LED switch. Try Lutron Maestro 150-Watt Single-Pole/3-Way/Multi-Location Digital CFL-LED Dimmer in White. (Model # 203489683)

Can these be plugged into electrical outlet? If not, are there ones that can be?

Asked by: Lisalisa
I believe they make them with the Edison adapter to maintain the the integrity of the OEM cannisters, IC fuse links and many more Electrical building and safety codes.. Hence screwing in a light bulb.. Everything contained in the cannisters box uninterrupted and as designed . Bypassing or modification of anything I've ever seen was with cheap no name imports that are accidents waiting to happen. When the Fire Inspector leaves and the Insurance Company walks away you'd understand then..To your Question : No ! Unless the manufacturer or code allows this to operated from a wall switch controlled receptacle like some shop lights then the cannister manufacturer would have to certified it.. Not Legal Advice. Check your local codes also..

Installing these lights into your existing fixtures is the equivalent of replacing a bulb. If you turn off the light switch, you should be safe.

No, other more expensive models have the blades. These are spring clips only, and set for 5 or 6 inch can receivers.

My ic cans have a single spring mounted in the top center to hold the existing light and dont have slots. What do I do?

Asked by: LSH
I'm not exactly sure what you've got there (a picture would help) with the single spring of the current can lights but I'm guessing you would have to cut a hole in the ceiling just big enough to put the housing in. Be careful not to cut it too big or the lights won't stay up. The springs with this light will collapse to be stuck in the hole and spring back to hold the light up there. I'm not sure if this helps at all but I hope it does.

Will these lights be bright enough for my kitchen?

Asked by: JL
This LED trim emits 650 lumens, which is the equivalent of 65 watts. Most customers report these bulbs to be bright, and the kitchen is a popular spot for replacement. Since it is a matter of your personal preference, this product can be exchanged or returned up to 90 days after purchase.

is there a gasket on these can trims?

Asked by: john
no but the plastic turns "up" for the last just under 1/4" and the spring holds it up very tight to the ceiling. I put one in my master bathroom and there does not appear to be any leakage
