Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality Bulb I love these so much that after buying one I replaced 8 more fixtures and lamps in my house with these bulbs by Cree. I love the tactile feel of them as it makes it less likely to slip from your hand when screwing in the bulb. The light these bulbs gives off is the closest I've ever seen to an incandescent bulb and they only use 9.5 watts of power! I got rid of most of my fluorescent bulbs now. They are dim when first lit and use more power and are not as good for the environment with the mercury in them. The Cree LED bulbs seem to light the room more evenly than the Phillips LED that I was using. These are totally amazing bulbs. Thank you Cree!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Don't use with dimmers I was initially very happy to find these bulbs at Home Depot, since they are ok for use in enclosed fixtures (which Philips says not to use their bulbs for). The light is bright and a nice colour temperature -- although a bit cooler than the Philips with the same rating. However, the bulbs emit a horrible hum when used in a fixture with a dimmer switch -- even with the dimmer at full brightness. I've tried two in-wall dimmers, one marked for LEDs, one not, and one plug-in dimmer rated for incandescents. All give identical results. A Philips 12E26A60 I have is fine (comparable to a halogen bulb I have). If you don't need it to dim, however, the bulbs are great (and are silent with a regular switch).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cree Soft White Bulbs The Facts: 1. What I bought: - 21 of A19 60W bulbs, one keep unopened as spare - 5 of A19 40w bulbs - 1 of A21 100w bulb - 1 of A21 3way 30/60/100W bulb 2. All of them have warm nice light. 3. A21 bulbs are quite bulky and get hot when in use 4. 40W, 100W and 3way bulbs are covered with sticky silicone 5. Out of 20 opened 60W bulbs: - one did not work (out of package) - two of them died next day (no light) 6. I'm surprised by failure rate of 60w bulbs and have doubts about how long they will last.. So, it is good idea to buy some spare bulbs. Home Depot replaced defective ones. 7. They are expensive. It helps using "save on energy" $5 coupons.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Bulb. Works even with old X10 dimmer I purchased these looking to replace some of the higher traffic incandescents in our house. 2 2-bulb fixtures both with 60W bulbs, and both on dimmers. One on a traditional "slider style" dimmer, and one on an old (purchased circa 2000) X10 remote dimmer. They worked perfectly in both fixtures. Would definitely recommend these. They do make an (extremely) faint humming noise. If you find yourself particularly sensitive to such things you might want to avoid them (I haven't tried them not on dimmers though). However with two boys ages 3-6 and a new baby, there's never really a time I notice it. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent colour I purchased this bulb after installing 3 of the 40w version in the lights in front of my house, and was just as pleased with this one. It gives excellent even lighting and the colour is just like an incandescent, there isn't the awful delay when turning on like with CFLs and it looks like a normal bulb in the fixture. I bought it to install with a fixture that was replacing a broken motion light at my back door. The 60w is enough light that I can see my backyard at night, and at only9.5W, its not a big deal if I forget to turn it off! Because I am using it outside, I can't speak to how it would work with a dimmer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lasting only one year I bought three standard A19 Cree soft white LED bulbs about one year ago and only one is still working. Of the two that died, the first (60W equivalent) developed a very annoying flickering after about 7,000 hours use over 10 months. The second (100W equivalent) completely quit suddenly after only about 1,500 hours use over the same time period. The third is so far still working, but confidence is obviously not high. All were purchased from Home Depot. Forget the warranty as shipping the failed bulbs back to Cree would cost more than simply purchasing another one. So, I would recommend basing your purchasing decision on reviews like mine, of which, unfortunately, there are many. Hopefully they get their technology sorted out soon for everyone because with this particular iteration of it, I certainly did not get my money's worth.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bought 10 for the basement pot lights have lost 3 I got them hoping for a bulb I would never need to change. I found their great reviews on the natural light and supposed quality. I wrote to Cree after the first one failed to try and get details on the return policy for the guarantee. Never received a response. Now three have died (they go to a flickering state and then eventually stop working. Bought them all in 2014. Will never buy a product from them again. The Philips bulbs have been much better and none have failed to date.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best LED lamps I have tried! Simply brilliant!! Very happy with these, took advantage of the Ontario Power Authority coupons this month. Initially tried the Phillips and Sylvania equivalents. Returned them both and exchanged for the Cree after sampling what I figured would be a good selection of standard household lamps. I have re-lamped the vast majority of my house with the Cree 9.5 watt (60 Watt equiv.) The fact that it looks pretty much the same as a regular lamp is nice, the light output is excellent and appears truly omni-directional. Light output is warm in colour as stated. What sealed the deal however was the price and manufacturers warranty for the product. This to me is what won me over completely. It has taken me a while to switch over to an energy saving light source. Up until now I have been using incandescent, completely by-passing CFL because of the poor quality light they appeared to have, warm up time which is not acceptable in a home setting where lights are off and on and off so frequently. Maybe they have a place in a commercial setting where lights may be left on all day and so the time taken to reach maximum light intensity is not a factor, but in the home when you walk in the room you want the light required on right away, not a dull glow. The other thing and most important for me, was the mercury content, a potential hazard in the home as well as environmentally come disposal time. I have felt guilty for years about my choice of incandescent because of the massive waste of energy in the form of heat, however chose to be conservative with how much I used my lighting as opposed to switching to something else. Cree have sold me. Initial cost is daunting at first and so I was glad of the money saving coupons from the OPA. However, what was different with Cree was that whilst all the other brands offered the same kind of life expectancy (20+ years) which sounds great, what if they don't last that long, what if they actually last a lot less, this technology is pretty unfamiliar to most of us (this is the first time I have used LED lamps within the home). What if I am saving money on my electricity bills each month but I am having to replace my $15-$30 lamp every two, three, five years. Doesn't sound all that great. Whilst being impressed by the warranty offered for the Philips brand lamp I think it was 6 years. The Sylvania bought elsewhere and with a $30 price tag, had only 3 years. Cree trumped them all by having a TEN year warranty and the cheapest price tag to boot. With that length of guarantee, I can feel confidant that my energy and money saving lamps will be a worth while investment for now and the future. I never write product reviews, this is in fact my first one. However I felt I should spread the work on these lamps so that more people can feel confident in buying them. The energy saved can be truly staggering. I have recently started taking notice of the amount of energy and resources I and my family consume. Lighting was something very simple I could change straight away in the home and is a huge consumption of a households electricity. As an example, a chandelier style fixture in my foyer had eight 60 watt incandescent lamps in (8x60W=480W) my new Cree lamps consume (8x9.5W=76W) with no compromise made which is important to point out, when the switch is turned on, there is light and lots of it just as before with the old lamps. Enough rambling. BUY this product it is fantastic. If you are new to LED lighting like me, this is a product worth trying. I have also used Cree's flood lamps to replace my outdoor par-30's and replaced my 50watt halogen recessed spots with Cree's retrofit units. As easy to install as screwing in a light bulb! I will probably write reviews for those products too. If you managed to make it to the end of this short story, well done!
