Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of negative reviews don't understand correct use of this product I am a professional tile installer. this product is not supposed to be used with any waterproof membrane or Schluter waterproof system. If you read the directions on all of the systems it will tell you not to use a polymer fortified thin set. That is because these types of adhesive need air to dry properly. When you sandwich this glue between two waterproof surfaces it is just like putting it inside a Ziploc bag, it will never dry correctly. I read lots of negative reviews on products when in truth it's because customers don't know what they're doing and that's why they are having problems.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not use on Redgard This product is made by CUSTOM (same company as Redgard). To help people in the process of installing tiles they have numbered the elements you need in the process. Redgard 1 Adhesive 2 Grout 3 But wait! even though this product is labeled 2 in the process, it can not be used on 1 (Redgard). Brilliant! And now where on either product does it say that those are not to be used together. Only when calling customer service do you find out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for wall tiles After reading the other reviews I thought I would chime in. Yes, thinset will always be the better option. This product is what it is. Can you set ceiling tiles with thinset? You can confidently comb this out and pop your tile on (after back buttering) and be confident, there is little sag and very easy to work with. And no, don't use this on a floor. A lot of products claim things, and you really just have to 'know'. Thats why there are professionals (not depot associates) ask a pro, or better yet hire one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Stuff I used this product to install 10X13 tiles on the ceiling of my shower, I didn't even have to support any of the tiles, they just stuck right to the ceiling and stayed there, i waited two days and grouted it looks awesome and the tiles never moved. I may be wrong but maybe some of the other users of this product used the wrong notch size with the trowel. I did mix thinset for the walls and the floor i initially did not trust this enough to be getting it wet and walking on it all the time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HORRIBLE... Horrible, horrible, horrible product. I just made a home depot account just so I could review this horrid junk. NEVER use it, takes WAY longer to cure than the instructions say. Took 3-5 days for it to cure, and I still have my doubts about it as some tiles still move a bit. This product also boasts about being mold/mildew resistant, that is a joke. About 4 months after using the product I went to check the bucket and was going to use it on my floor. To my utter disgust there were many odd brown spots and a fair amount of MOLD growing on much of the surfaces. This was a sealed container (proof of that is the product has not dried out). DO NOT BUY THIS, use traditional thin set mortar. Not worth the container it is shipped in.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage. Never dries. How can this be sold? Two weeks after install. 8x8 tile. Never dries except the outer 1/4”. And even that’s gummy. “Premium” product so you can tear your floor out and by real thinset. After two weeks, here’s the result. Wet as the day it was laid.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Buyer beware! Long setting times on 12 x 12 tiles Used this in my bathroom and it set up pretty quick and has held up for 6 years now without cracking. Was replacing my kitchen floor this week and wanted a quick and easy product to set 150sq ft. of 12 X 12 tile and be done in less than week completely. The details state that on a 8X8 tile it should set in 24-72 hours prior to grouting but on larger tiles it takes more time. Thinking it would be dry in less than a week , I called Custom products and was informed it can take up to 10-15 days to completely be dry. Now I am running the heater, dehumidifier and fans- non stop....Do not grout prior to being completely dry otherwise you lock in the moisture and the bond will fail. If this would have been stated on the bucket, I would have used Versabond thinset instead. Use with caution

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easiest Product to Use, Provided you read and understand the instructions I used this product to install 12X18 ceramics on a kitchen floor. The base was mortar and this was a repair job from tiles which did not originally adhere (which a "pro" installed). I used a 1/4" V-notch trowel because THE PRODUCT IS AN ADHESIVE NOT MORTAR. I back buttered the entire tile and made a flat very thin adhesive base. After installation, I read some product reviews and was thinking, "did I just make a mistake?" I figured if the directions read 8"X8" tiles need 24 hours (64 cu in / 24 hours = 2.66) So 12"X18" tiles (216 cu in / 96 hours =2.25) a little longer than the 2.66 The label is very specific to not use too much product. Seems honest enough, most companies say to use their product liberally or generously, so seems like good faith to me if the directions read don't use too much. Just follow the instructions, this product is really easy to use and I'm glad I bought it and tried it out. Also, 50 bucks for 3 1/2 gallons; the extra $40 is worth not having stop and mix mortar 3 or 4 times, well to me it is.

I would use a product specific for that condition. This stuff is better used indoors. Temperature variation might be a problem using the OmniGrip outdoors.

Why does this product say it can be used on floors when most reviewers say that is should not be used on floors?

I just had my bathroom floor tiled with 6 x 24 tiles and the installer used this product. Now I am concerned that I am going to have issues down the road.It looks good and he did wait 2 days for it to dry before he grouted it.

When it comes to tile mastic products like this, understanding the gaps between what manufacturers promise their products will provide and what old-timey professional tile guys insist are the hard-and-fast limits of tile mastic involves a nasty history of fifty years of thoroughly broken promises by manufacturers in the tile industry that led to spectacular failures and major property damage, especially in showers, steam rooms, and areas that periodically get wet, like bathroom floors. That being said, you're probably going to be fine. But I wouldn't tile a bathroom floor with a tile mastic and neither would most tile professionals.

The description says maximum strength adhesive but when you zoom in it’s lightweight tile adhesive.

Omnigrip used to make one that said maximum strength adhesive. How does this compare?
Asked by: Carol
We use it often and haven't had any problems with the adhesive strength

I have used it on large tiles where there is wood or drywall backing on walls. I would not use it for a floor. Interior only.
