Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Loud Bought this unit last winter intent to heat my baby daughter's room up since her room was always colder than others. Used a couple of nights and returned it. The fan was really loud... to the level woke me up and I was amlost sleepless for those nights. I woudn't recommend to anyone witihout hearing problem if you want it in your bed room, you may use it in room no one sleeping though. I'm engineering background. By looking at the design, it's easy to undertand why it's so loud. The motor and controller blocks more than half area where the air otherwise can flow through. The fan has to run at very high speed to compensate the loss. I wish they can come out a smarter design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for this horrible winter Bought this at the home depot in the falll when it was beginning to get chilly...i was able to set this and forget about it, thermostat turns on great and it works excellently in my old house with poor ventilation. I use two of these in the side of my house that receives poor heating and it has made a huge difference, has reduced my bill and made the whole house warmer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good Idea, Poor Execution Buyer beware!! This is a great idea for air registers that have low air flow. Ideal for those 2nd floor rooms that are too hot in summer or too cold in winter. However, make sure it works and works quietly before leaving the store. As other reviewers have noted quality control is poor and products frequently don't work or are noisy right out of the box - happened to me twice. Then only count on it working for the length of the warranty or a little longer at best. I have purchased 6 in total over the past 2.5 years and only one has lasted more than 18 months. The manufacturer will honour the warranty (if you have the original receipt) but you have to box it up and Courier or mail it at a cost of $18 in postage alone and wait for weeks for a new one or you can drive it all the way to Scarborough for an exchange. Two major design problems, firstly the motor bearings wear out quickly and it becomes noisy and then eventually seizes up - I had two do that. Secondly the thermostat eventually quits and the unit will either not run at all or will not turn off at all - two of mine did that. So if you are prepared to replace the unit every 12-18 months or so go ahead and get it as it does as it claims very well. Personally I am going to have a furnace service company come in and install two in line boosters in the furnace duct work as it is a much better long term solution and cheaper in the long run.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This thing works - just VERY poor quality The Cyclone Booster Fan does increase airflow, however, it has several problems: 1. Thermisistor is located on the bottom side of the fan, making it difficult to change. 2. The parts are of poor quality. 3. It is noisy (seems like a common defect issue?). 4. The gears/motors wear out quality, causing the fan to seize up, I'm on my third unit :( This thing is not cheap either, it's too bad the company can't make a better quality product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good Our master bedroom gets way too hot during the summer and it only has a single floor register that just can't cool it down, even when the AC has been running all day. Based on the size of the room, it probably should have been serviced by 2 registers instead of 1 but it's too late to do anything about that now.... We purchased this register booster today to see if it will help. Installing was as easy as popping tolhe existing register off and dropping this one in its place. The booster register comes with a foam strip for a good seal and during operation, it's very quiet. Practically imperceptible from the bed. The booster does push the air out at an angle so make sure you've installed it the right way around. If you find it's pushing air the wrong direction, take it out and turn it 180. In terms of air volume, it definitely increased the flow of air. There's a strong breeze that can be felt 3' from the register whereas before, you could barely feel any air movement. I will update this review after a few days.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what I need! Warm air rises and cold air falls. In our upstairs we have a problem only in the summer with the chilled AC air not making it all the way up. These booster registers really help. A bit of adjustment the first time and they continue afterward to come on and off automatically as needed. The fan noise they make is noticeable, but less than a full fan running in the room. Still better and cheaper than purchasing additional AC just for the upstairs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Makes a difference I bought this product in the hopes of cooling down my baby's room during summer. His room is at the front of the house and our home faces south, and the sun heats it up all day long. The upstairs never quite cools down even with the central air the way the main floor does, despite closing off some of the vents on the main floor. I noticed a difference in the temperature of the room right away and it's so easy to use. The subtle humming noise didn't seem to bother him either, if anything it's probably soothing for a baby. We are going to purchase a couple more for the master bedroom which also gets quite hot in the warm months. For a small room one is sufficient.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great item for Waterloo winters Bought this for my room in my house, it's a very old house and the heating system has not been renovated. My room is in the basement so it is very cold in the winters. This was very easy to use and worry-free and it does not disturb me at all when I sleep.

I would like to install this in my son's bedroom. I am concerned about the noise level at night. How quiet or how noisy is this booster fan?

Asked by: Jethro227
The fan creates a very low hum at 1.8 sones which is just over 28 decibels, you may not even notice it while it runs. If you have more questions please do not hesitate to contact the manufacturer. Info@CycloneRangeHoods.com

If I install this booster in a room that does not get enough heat, does it also have the effect of reducing air going to other vents that gets too much heat ? and Will the same effect happen with summertime cooling ?

Asked by: haggis
Depending on where along the system the various rooms are it may have a slight reducing effect on the rooms that are too hot or cold but it will be minimal. Usually the rooms not getting adequate airflow are towards the end of the line so the booster simply draws idle air out of the ducts with little to no effect on rooms closer to the source of the treated air.

I have an AC unit in the living room but not enough cooled air is getting to the adjoining bedroom. The condo has electric baseboard heat. (no ducts) Can I cut a 3”x10” hole in the wall, line it with metal ductwork and install this unit to push air thru?

Asked by: Larry
The product is specifically designed to work in conjunction with a central heating and/or cooling system by placing the product into a floor register. By doing so, the forced air travelling through the duct will contact the built in thermostat which will then turn the fan on to boost air flow. Aside from a "hot" and "cool" setting, the product also has an "on" and "off" setting. If switched to the "on" setting, it overrides the thermostat and the fan will run continuously.

I bought the cyclone booster fan plus i put it on the hot mode on the most sensitive but it didn’t turn on when the air was heated so i turned the sensitivity the opposite way a little bit and it turned on but it still working even after the heat was off

Asked by: Tamara
I find these booster fans don’t work well for heating and cooling. I basically use them to pull the air up to my third floor.

How powerful is it? How many CFM?

Asked by: Andre B Bells Corners
Not very powerful. CFM probably no better than a cheap bathroom ceiling fan. Had it in a 10 X 12 room for cool air....not impressed.

Use in winter?

We used this booster for my son's room (which is over the garage) during the summer, and it worked like a charm to keep it as cool as the rest of the upstairs. Now that it's winter, we can't figure out how to get it to work with the warm air. We've switched the setting to 'heat' but the temperature control is just a screw and doesn't seem to indicate where it should be set, so we've been moving it a quarter turn every night but it never seems to come on. Any ideas with using it for heating??
Asked by: Anonymous
turn the screw to the thinest part of the red line, that means that it will turn on when it detects air that's even slightly heated
