Rated 1 out of 5 by from Won't Use Again The features of the product looked good but did not prove out. On opening the product was very thick not at all like the creamy product I was expecting. The label said stir well but stirring was not possible. I pulled out clumps on the putty knife and tried to spread. Very hard to spread and curled up around the end of the blade, flaked and some fell to the floor. As I was trying to spread it was drying and lumps of partly dried product dragged leaving gouge marks in the spread product. I am used to a creamy product that spreads neatly and needs very little sanding, this did not preform that was, at all. Might be useful for nail holes but not for fixing a seam or crack where smooth spreading is needed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible spackle This product is garbage. It is like trying to butter hot bread with frozen butter. It clumps and is very hard to get it smooth. I would much prefer the self mix powder Polyfilla. What would only take me a few (2-3) application with Polyfilla is taking 4-5 and it still needs work. I am having to sand lots where with the power I only need to scrape the small ridges. and done.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked well, but not a game changer. This worked really well, particularly nice to be able to see the pink spackle against a white wall. It did seem to create a lot of dust compared to low dust drywall mud I've used, but not the worst either. It sanded well. Only complaint is that I found that it turned white before it was completely dry and ready to sand. I just waited longer and everything was fine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Was a great product, but is not now I have enjoyed the results from using dap spackling for years. Bought a tub to patch drywall in August 2017. Noticed that it 'slumped' on the a while after application, moving the material away from the wall to dry in prominent wavy ridges. Thinking it was somehow my technique that caused this I tried the Dap again on a different patch location. Twice. This did not occur when I tossed the Dap spackling and used a competing product. Dap products? Never, ever again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The color changing feature is an excellent idea! As a spackling it works well. It may not be the professional grade quality but for small and moderate sized jobs, it works great. The color changing feature works really well as I always find myself touching the spackling to see if it dried or not and now I don't have to and as soon as it all turns white, I can clean it up and paint over.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite spackling This spackling is great as the DryDex technology takes the guesswork out of deciding whether or not the spackling has fully dried (this is particularly convenient when filling larger/deeper holes and cracks). This spackling also sands very nicely and can be painted very easily both indoors and outdoors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I touchup new homes when the trades have all left or when people move out. This stuff is the bomb. Painting is easy. Working with it takes a bit to learn as it isn't as easily spread like mud, but the time saved, ease of sanding, and finished product... Cannot go wrong!!

The walls in my bathroom are concrete blocks. Rain water seeped through & caused aesthetic damage. The exterior of the wall has now been sealed. Could I use this product to seal some cracks & crumbly bits on the interior wall before painting?

Asked by: Jennifer
On the DAP website it says it can be used for brick and stone, but I'm not sure it would be the best product for that purchase. I've only ever used it on drywall. DAP makes another product, Ready Mixed Concrete Patch that would probably be better suited, also sold at HD.

Is this suitable for drywall in the Garage. No moisture issues, mostly patching nail holes, correcting scratches

Asked by: Andi
Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP DryDex Spackling can be applied in both interior and exterior applications (providing that the product is protected from moisture). Even when moisture is not a concern, it is still recommended to prime/paint the patch, for protection/durability. Should you have any additional questions or require assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Can I use this to fix a bad (and water-stained) drywall tape? Looks like I have to remove the old tape and put a new one. Or do I have to use a real drywall compound? I don't wanna buy a bag of drywall compound just to do this small repair job. Thanks!

Asked by: CarmL
Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP DryDex Spackling can be used to make this type repair providing that the source of moisture has been addressed and the remaining drywall is structurally sound (solid).

Can this be used on exterior wood doors like garage doors and wood frames for  fine cracks/ imperfections? Will the wood need to be primed before using dap drydex ?

Asked by: Rick
Thank you for posting your feedback. As indicated on the product packaging and supporting product literature: "Do not use on floors or as a caulk, sealant or joint filler over cracks and joints where expansion and contraction may occur." Because spackling products dry to a hard texture, they are not suitable for applications where flexibility may be required. For joints and seams in trim/molding, we would recommend the use of a flexible caulk/sealant such as DAP DYNAFLEX 230 or DAP EXTREME STRETCH. Should you have any questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
