The 2.5 mm does a better job of covering or hiding many of the small imperfections in the surface it is applied to.

The 2.5 mm tile has a richer more professional look.

The larger tile surface reduces the number of joints in the backsplash, potentially reducing application problems. Less edges.

Price point, cost per sq ft is more affordable for the DYI customer.
