Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice product! Very easy to set up and the picture quality is great. I purchased this set but with 4 cameras. I have 3 of 4 cameras paired up at this time. I'm still in the process of working out the bugs with the 4th camera. Not sure if the camera is bad or maybe its just not getting a signal. I'm new to Defender but this product seems well made. I did replace the wired mouse with a good wireless one. The only complaint I have is I spent quite a bit for my security system and it was discontinued before I even opened the box. : (

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good Quality Daytime Picture, but Very Limited Distance Range from Camera to Receiver When I received the 4 camera system, the first thing I noticed was there was NO user manual included in the box. And the 4 security warning stickers that were suppose to come with were missing too. Anyway, once I figured out how to install the cameras and get them paired up and connected to the receiver without the user manual to help, I discovered 3 of the 4 cameras kept going off line or disconnecting from the host/receiver for 30-40 seconds on a fairly regular basis - the screen would go black. The only camera that seemed to work without fail or disconnect was the one closest to the receiver. The rest of the cameras I'm guessing were located too far away from the receiver to work well. I won't recommend this system to anybody with a large home, property or business due to the limited range. The system does not work as designed unless all the cameras are basically mounted very close to one another and they all have to be close to the receiver too. I attempted to contact Defender's Customer Service several times to find out what the maximum distance the built in WIFI in the receiver will reach and get request a user manual, but couldn't get a hold of anybody at the company. I also went to their website for help and couldn't find this camera system listed under their products. I also could not find the user manual in their help center either. How the heck is someone suppose to figure out how to use the system without a user manual or ask product questions or get technical support when you can't reach the company? Very frustrating. I also thought this camera was made in the USA, but Defenders headquarters is in Canada. The other problems with this system is that it does not record audio, does not come with a remote control - just a corded mouse attached to receiver (won't work with cordless mouse either) and the receiver's fan is very noisy and annoying. If you are at all sound sensitive, you won't want to be in the same room with the receiver for very long. Audio is important to me because if someone verbally threatens you on camera, that audio will be evidence you can give to the police. Having a remote control is important too. If you like to watch the cameras via a TV monitor in the house like I do, you will have to get up from your seat and use the computer mouse supplied with the receiver in order to switch views or record anything. I know lots of people like to just use their cell phones to watch their cameras, but I don't particular like that option because the screen is too small. Also, one of the cameras has a smudge of some kind inside the lense which shows up when it goes into night vision. When I inquired about replacing it, was told I had to return the whole system back, couldn't just replace one camera. What a pain. I really can't recommend this system to anybody. The only nice things I have to say about it is that it has a great picture quality for day light use and is affordable. But, it doesn't work for my needs. I plan to return this and find a different one with a longer range or distance for the cameras/receiver to work and hopefully with a company that has a real Customer Service dept with live reps in the US.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Customs Service and Warranty I used to be happy with Defender. When I bought the system it worked well until the cameras picture turned purple. I sent the camera back and they replaced it with a new one. They extended my warranty for a year. Now again the same problem with the camera and customer service is MIA. They no longer answer their phones and reply with generic emails.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Security System I just purchased and installed, in less than an hour, my third Defender wireless system. I've purchased and installed two competitive systems in the past and Defender is the best security system hands down for ease of use, features and picture quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good! We just bought this system for our house and it was pretty easy to install. The picture quality is pretty good and the software is user friendly. We ordered 2 more cameras for the inside of our house so hopefully that works out just as well. Much better than systems I've installed in the past with running wires and such. So far a very good purchase.

Can you please tell me how long the chord on the power adapter measures? thanks

Asked by: Robert
Great Question Robert! The camera cable is about 15 ft. An extension cable can be used as long as it is rated for the environment in which it is being used so that you have more options when mounting the cameras. Thank you for your interest in Defender!

Do the cameras have to run off of the supplied power pack which plugs into a wall? Or can they be hard wired? If it needs to run off of the power supply, can the wire be lengthened?

Asked by: Craig
Thank you for your interest in Defender Craig! The cameras do need to be connected to a wall outlet using the included power supply. You can use extension cords with the cameras if needed. We recommend using extension cords rated for the environment it will be run through. Outdoor installations should use an outdoor rated cable. Whichever model you choose, you’ll get the peace of mind you're looking for with Defender!

Living in Calgary I am curious to know what the minimum operating temperature is for these outdoor cameras.    We often have temperatures of -30 to -35oC.  Are the cameras rated to operate when it is that cold?

Asked by: Joe90
Thanks.  It rules this brand out for me then.  No point in spending money to find it cannot be warrantied to work below -10oC, knowing full well I have -35oC.

I am considering using this product where I work at an apartment building. What is the maximum range from the cameras to the receiver?

Asked by: Shannon
Great question Shannon, the maximum range is up to 650' with direct line of sight. Within 150' is the optimal range of the wireless HD cameras.

I am planning to install the system in my brick basement. Will I be able to get a good signal from cameras located 20-25 feet away?

Asked by: Chelst
Thank you for your question Chelst. Every setup will be different, Brick tends to be harder for wireless signals to clear. We cannot say for certain without it being tested in your environment.
