Rated 2 out of 5 by from dewalt jigsaw This is a don't buy! I have had many dewalt tools and they are reliable and well built. You cant go wrong with a dewalt drill or mitre saw. When it comes to jig saws, I was very disappointed with this saw. The motor and variable speed/ tool change is great. However, the blade wanders and it is close to impossible to follow a radius. The blade attachment is flimsy and the small little useless roller that is supposed to guide the blade just doesnt cut it! Not to mention the high price and one cheap blade it comes with. Go with BOSCH when it comes to jig saws. Dewalt missed the mark here.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does its job It is a simple machine without any gimmicky details. It cuts smooth and with power. I have used it on wood, laminates, metal and cement board. It cuts straight, or leaves for easily navigating tight turns. Blade change is easy, it is variable speed, and you can lock the trigger on for easier working. It is well balanced, and it is designed so it is easy to see the line you are cutting. This was the second jigsaw purchase in so many days. The first was blocky and difficult to use. A switch to this DeWalt made everything work great. If I could change one thing, it would be to make the swivel base easier to adjust. You have to use a hex wrench (not included) to adjust it. Would be great if it did not require tools to adjust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Jig Saw! I needed a jig saw so I went to the local store, shopped around and then came home and read reviews online. After seeing this saw had good reviews I bought one. I also purchased Bosch blades. I've been using jig saws for many years and this saw is by far the best I've ever used. The Bosch blades with this saw cut through 1/2" plywood like a hot knife cuts through butter - very smooth and precise operation. I also love the keyless blade holder - very nice feature (they didn't have that available twenty five years ago when I purchased my previous jig saw). The saw has a "good feel" to it, it's comfortable to use, heavy but not too heavy, very easy and very intuitive to operate and it's truly been a joy to use. So far I've used it to cut plywood, MDF and 0.626 thick aluminum and I have zero complaints. I only wish I'd bought one of these earlier - highly recommended. Don't forget to buy blades - it doesn't come with any - but don't get cheap blades.

(I don't use them very often) I've been buying DeWalt tools for several years now and I couldn't be happier with the brand. So I went with this DeWalt unit. I've used it about a dozen times now. Unit is very smooth operating and well balanced. The automatic dust blowing feature works well when unit is running on High. If you are running the unit at slower speed, you will have to keep the saw dust cleaned off of your cut line the old fashioned way. FYI- the unit comes with no blades and the blade type is: T-Shank. I bought a case of assorted Bosch T-Shank blades. One Disappointment: All of my other DeWalt tools came with a hard case. This comes with a cloth case. I would have preferred a hard case. This cloth case seems durable but I think that over time the Plastic zipper will be the weak link, so we'll see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A really great saw for many uses. I have owned this saw for quite a while now and I use it in my furniture building business all the time and I think this is a lot of saw for the money. I do not know why some say they are haveing problem making accurate cuts with this saw, I have never had any such problem nor has anyone that has used my saw. My saw cuts exactly where you point it. I do wish it had the heavier base on it tho, it is just a mental thing. I love it and highly recommend this saw.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Plenty of power, little accuracy I ditto Pinecarpenter's remarks: too much deflection, blade wanders aimlessly outside of its housing, thumb button is prone to accidental locking, and I'd just like to add that no matter how I tighten the base, it still slips off square. I've used this saw a handful of times to cut 3/4 in. oak flooring and 3/4 in. oak plywood. It's got plenty of power, but good luck trying to do anything that requires the slightest bit accuracy. I can't get this beast to cut a decent line (forget straight) even when I setup a batten guide. Bottom line: I wish I could return this, but I've lost the box it came in. I've used DeWalt products extensively -- and have never been this disappointed in a product. Background: I was a scenic and finish carpenter for 5 years to put myself through college. Just your average do-it-yourselfer now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Loose as goose This jig saw has too much play in all directions. The roller blade guide moves side to side way too much and the shaft that actually holds the blade has excessive play side to side & front to back. This was true of another unit I checked out at the store. It was hard to cut a straight line even using an edge guide. My 37 year old Black & Decker cuts more accurately. I returned it & ordered a Bosch 1587AVSP that's a solid as a rock though harder to load blades. It's a great buy here with a molded case & 9 quality blades.

Had this saw around two years, only used it a few times on 3/4" plywood and worked great. However today I was cutting a radius on 1 1/2" pine and the orbital adjustment keeps jumping from position 3 to 0. Further inspection of the tool revealed what I consider a design flaw. The spring loaded beads that sit in the recess are either not strong enough or too short to keep the adjuster in position. Disappointed now as all my power tools are Dewalt and this is the only one I am disappointed with.

What type of blade does this saw use.? ;

Asked by: Dave
It takes U and T. They don't seem to have fixed the flaws in this saw mentioned below. Look at the 1- and 2- star reviews and you'll see the same problems in 2016 and 2017. I bought one of these in 2014 and it had two problems. First, the blade clamp didn't hold the blades well. They would come flying out sometimes. Second, there was WAY too much side to side slop, which made it a challenge to cut straight. The blade jumps out of the little groove in the roller. It's still sitting on a shelf somewhere, but I don't see it. I might have put it on the curb with a "free" sign on it. I have a large jig saw but I wanted something smaller like the DW317 for tight spaces. Why is it that "small" seems to mean "smaller quality" too.

Can this cut through vinyl?
Asked by: Ren
Hello Ren, Yes, this jigsaw will cut vinyl. It may tear up the edge and/or surface though. It may be better to score your vinyl with a utility knife first or instead. Have a great day and good luck with your projects!
