Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Snap line I've owned. I've only had this 2 weeks but this is my favorite snap line already! It has a rubber cover and spongy-rubber-like foam where the line comes out of the unit and it's quite water resistant. We were replacing some wood on a bridge out back and it dropped in the water - it floated and didn't let in any water inside! I was amazed - I thought for sure it was done and I was going to have to clean it out, replace the string or maybe even throw it out and start over... I'm never buying another chalk line again - do you know how many times these get rained on and ruined? This one dropped in a stream and is fine!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It "Feels" Right But It Misses The Mark This tool is full of good ideas with design intent not achieved. Gear ratio reduction, good solid appearance, seems like it is going to be good...but misses the mark on the job. It is twerky, not consistent, leaves a lot of residual on the string when you extend it, the lock is cumbersome to use, the handle is cumbersome to use...the designers need to use one of the old metal chalk boxes for a while until they get a feel for how this thing is supposed to work. It feels right, but misses the mark. The line it leaves is sometimes a ½ to ¾ inch wide, and when you reel it back in it is still slopping chalk everywhere like a crop duster.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No instructions to refill this item Not happy with no refill instructions. plenty of marketing material on packaging. Surprise how do you fill it. I managed to pry the top open and most likely broke this piece of garbage. it was a twist off cap on top, unlike their old easy refills. I looked at the 5 screws holding this together and figured that was not the way. but no directions made this even more frustrating. simple enough, but your company assumed we knew how to refill.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent chalk reel My old one broke, a different brand, and I bought this one and so far it works fairly well. It reels decently and the claw holds well, though I'm wary of the rubber opening and its longevity. Also I'm not impressed with its ability to retain chalk, my old one was better before it got smashed to pieces, but I'm not disappointed. Overall a decent chalk line, it should serve you well as it has for me. I've only used blue Dewalt chalk in mine, I can't vouch for any other colors so far.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Design Chalk fills from front and closes with a rubber strap. After riding around in nail bags all day the strap comes loose and spills chalk everywhere. Irwin chalk lines are cheaper and better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use Reel was simple to load with chalk and easy to use. The blue chalk was very visible, and even more importantly, easy to wash off once done with the project.

Why is the blue a 1 on the Performance Scale, but the red is a 3? Simply due to the color or what specifically does this mean? Thank you.
Asked by: MNMama
You know how hair gels have the numbers that describe how strong the hold of the gel is on the hair? Well this works similar with the chaulkline, the number on the performance line describes how strong the chalk will hold onto the material you are snapping the line on top of, in this case a 1 represents a weak hold and a 3 and above represents a stronger hold meaning one it's easier to clean off and 3 and above will be harder to clean off. I hope this helped.

Why is it called 3:1 chalkbox?

Asked by: Nick
It’s the gear ratio for winding the line back in. The higher the ratio, the faster you can wind it back up.
