Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice door, cross your fingers when you order. This shower door was chosen for appearance/ styling as well as the frame type. The frame works well to cover irregular frame openings. The frame opening was 45 1/2 at the bottom and 46" at the top. The door gets a 5/5 for looks and fit. The glass and trim are also good quality and fit. The handle is not a very good design. The mounting components are clunky and of poor quality. It is not nearly as nice and good fit as the Unidoor handle. 1/5 for this item. The bracket is good quality and works well; however, the screw cover is poorly designed and doesn't work well. It is a good idea to dab a pinhead of silicone to it to keep it from falling off. 3/5 Upon opening the package and checking parts, I discovered that the package contained Unidoor hinges and handle. I called Dreamline per their instruction sheet, who asked me to call the store, who asked me to call 1 800 home depot, who asked me to call D&R (shipper). The shipper couldn't find the missing boxes, so I had to return the whole door to the store. (All I needed was a small box of hinges.) HD paid me about $15/hr for my trouble in the form of a discount on the replacement door. The new door arrived in 7 weeks. Dreamline and HD get a 1/5 for their support. I noticed that this door is now about $600 more in Canada than the US, accounting for exchange. HD should be much better at providing access to quality products from the US.

what size of shower base need to buy for this shower door?

The 34-36" Elegance-LS will be compatible with the DreamLine SlimLine 36x36" single threshold shower base, model # DLT-1136360. Thank you for your interest in DreamLine!

Does this have the option of opening into or out of the shower? Is the hardware brass like the unidoor? If not what material is it? The finish is chrome.

The DreamLine Elegance is designed to swing out towards the bathroom. It is not designed to swing in towards the shower. Yes, the hardware finish for this model is chrome. While waiting for an answer I checked on Dreamline.com and for exactly the same question, the answer was yes it does open in or out, or is it different for elegance LS?  Btw I called the customer service no you provided and still waiting for a call back.

The Elegance LS is designed to open outward. To allow it to open inward, you would have to reverse the vinyl strips on the door and you may experience leaking if they are reversed and the pivots would have to be reversed (top pivot installed on the bottom, etc.) In theory, it can be done but is not recommended due to the possibility of leaking with the reversal of the vinyl strips.
