Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, over priced Good product, over priced. February 2019, i bought this product for $400. September 2019, I bought this product for $500. November 2019, the same base is now $580. Very frustrating, I quoted the shower base with the previous price twice. I lost money on the product twice. Frustrating that I have to double check pricing every time I want to use this product, even if I know the price from a couple months back. This is true, I have all three receipts. Good base though. 54” is a really ideal size for a shower. Normally don’t have room for a 60” and 48” just a bit too small.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent well manufactured shower base I purchased this shower base to install in a basement bathroom. The manufacturing is excellent and it is extremely solid in construction. I recommend using gloves when handling to avoid stray glass fibre on the underside. My only criticism is that the instructions give no indication of how much mortar to use during the installation process. It is not clear whether the intent is to simply provide a firm footing or whether to support the underside of the base. As I was installing on a very flat concrete basement floor I elected to stabilize the base just by securing the lip with countersunk screws to the framing behind. Only time will tell whether this was a wise move!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaks after 8 Months - Do not buy This base will leak. We have been using the same plumber for years and he does great work. He installed two of these bases in our house and because they are not supportd on the underside they will flex whenever you step on them. The flexing of the product shifted the waterproofing and resulted leaks in both our showers. We are trying to remedy the problem but we may have to remove these bases completely to avoid further leaks and water damage to our house. Very disappointed and should have just spent the money on doing a concrete tile base because those have very little room for error. Verdict, don't waste money on this as it is not meant for longevity.

My base is a replacement, so the drain was already in and didn't line up with the new drain hole. My plumber moved the drain a few inches to accommodate this pan in about 10 minutes. Shouldn't be a big deal in most cases.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's OKAY I bought this base for my shower renovation. I chose it as it fit my budget range and I wanted a base that was easy to clean. The drain was supposed to be centred, and when I uncrated it, the drain was not where it was supposed to be. When it comes to shower bases you get what you pay for. When I step on the base, it sounds hollow and feels hollow and not to mention cheap. If you prefer a more solid shower floor, this is not your answer. If I could go back, I would prefer either a custom built shower base or have my contractor tile in a base for me.

I’m not sure. The one I bought had the drain in the center. But contact the manufacturer to inquire. More importantly, this unit is very robust. I was impressed with the quality.

Can this particular shower base be installed over plywood without using mortar?

Installation without the required bed of mortar will void your warranty on the product and can jeopardize your installation. We used tiles with it . There's a lip all around to receive the tiles or the a prefab wall.Hope this helps. Check on the dreamline site they offer information.

how can the assembled weight be more than the packaged weight for this product?

For door sets that install within this base width, what are the ideal wall board and wall surface thicknesses?

Once you install the shower base in a bed of mortar directly up against your studs, you will need to then put up 1/2" thick moisture-resistant backer board on your 3 interior walls. You may then elect to finish your walls however you like - we recommend sticking to standard materials for finishing your walls (i.e. 1/4" thick ceramic/porcelain tile, cultured marble, acrylic paneling, etc). Once you finish the walls with whatever material you select, then you will want to measure your finished opening widths to select a shower door that is a proper fit.
