Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value for price I did a bunch of research when choosing to insulate our basement of new home, and these panels combined the best for price/ROI and R value. The manufacturing methods for XPS vs EPS are such that the other type of panels (XPS) produce a tremendous amount of greenhouse gases, and that tipped the scales for us. Cut to size with a new extra long utility knife, and adhered with foam safe PL. Even just with these panels up over concrete walls made a noticeable difference in the basement's comfort level. Plan is to combine with mineral batts in 2x4 framing to get to R20 in basement - work in progress.

What is this product made out of? Is it Extruded Polystryren? If so, can you order it in 2'X8'x2" lengths?

R - 8.08 for the 96x48x2 According to the Durafoam Website, the R value for this product is is 4.04 per inch

Why does the R value of the 2 inch one say, in the actual description, 4.04 but in the comments of the 1.5 inch one it states the R value is 5.63? Wouldn't the R value increase as the thickness goes up? What is the actual R value of both?

Can this insulation be used on the exterior of a basement and then buried ??

Yes this product can be used below grade and it can be back filled against. There are no issues with that application.
