Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Canadian product Excellent product. Easy to set. Just keep in mind it is not supposed to be compressed. - One misconception I like to address though is an "issue" I've seen raised by a few Reviewers - The peeling of the protective foil..!!! Well, breathe.. It is supposed to peel off. You must peel it off before gluing the panels to the wall , the studs or the plywood. It is there only as protective sheet during transportation. It's not making a shred of a difference to the quality of your insulation. ..Actually think of it, if you live it on it can make your gluing work less effective.. (PL300 or PL Premium both work well btw)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great performance at 1/2 the XPS price! Despite what a previous reviewer has stated, it's critical that the film remains attached to both sides of the EPS of you want to maintain the manufacturer specifications for this product. The specs as specified on the manufacturer documentation, and also printed on the product itself are clear. To maintain an R value of 4.7 per inch, and a perm value of 0.5, the film needs to remain. If you remove it, the R value will drop do 4.5, and must importantly, the perm value will reduce to 5. This will increase by 10x the amount of vapour that passes the the product. If this is what you want, then it's not an issue to remove the film. However if you want the same performance as XPS at half the price, the film needs to remain in both sides of the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome product! Great product at a great price! Easy to work with, great specs, more forgiving than rigid foam for slightly bumpy surfaces. Didn't matter for my job but be aware that it is slightly thicker than 2". Plastic sheet on both sides improve workability and moisture barrier effect.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It melted and split I was shocked at what happened to this insulation in a 6 month period of time. It was put on the upper part of my RV slide for extra insulation. It was covered/protected with corrugated plastic. A shade tree was over top. I checked this week (6 months later) to see how it was fairing. Within 6 months it had melted and split. I couldn't believe my eyes. Anyway, this is extremely disappointing so of course I can not recommend the product.

Can this insulation be used on interior outside walls

Asked by: Gus 67
As long as it’s covered. I used wolmanized plywood and sealed it. Doing a great job for my home. Received a substantial incentive from provincial and federal govt as well.

What type of edge is it? Shiplap? Tongue?

Asked by: Joe123
This product has square edges  Which makes for a less energy efficient seam. Shiplap is offered by other manufacturers but at a cost increase  One installation option is to use two layers of thinner square edge insulation and stagger the joints so that the seams of the first layer are covered by the second, making a good air tight seal .

I have a kitchen balcony with a ceiling that needs to be airsealed as my bedroom is above. Can this be used for that? I will also have a barbecue on the balcony. Does this need a vapour barrier too?

Asked by: mister
You can tape your seams and a vapour barrier isn’t needed. Watch the heat from your bbq so it doesn’t melt whatever is covering the foam.

Taking this from some of the reviews, so keep that in mind: If I need to cut this insulation, will I have issues with its vapor barrier? Any tips on keeping the vapor barrier material stuck to the polystyrene? Thank you, R

Asked by: rcrw
It cuts very easily and cleanly. I had no issues with the palaticized coating peeling off. Just make sure your joints are tight and tape with Tuck tape. I used blue Tuck tape because it has superior performance.

Can this be used as a vapor barrier in the basement? I can't seem to get a straight answer. I have R10 Durospan glued to the concrete and all seems are taped, 2 x 4 metal construction on top filled with R12 fiberglass batts. Is it safe to drywall on top?

Asked by: rfcx
Just to clarify some of the above answers for a basement application, yes the durafoam sheets can serve as vapour barrier as long as the joints are taped and closed cell spray foam insulation (e.g. Titefoam brand) is used to seal any gaps between the floor. The idea is to prevent moisture laden interior air from getting behind the foam sheets and causing condensation on the concrete/block wall behind the foam. If there is batt insulation in the headers, then you will need to connect the vapor barrier that protects the batts to the foam using Tuck tape. A modern alternative and superior approach is to use a "smart barrier" roll product instead of a polyethylene vapor barrier over the wall studs. The smart barrier is a bi-directional vapor retarder that allows moisture to escape to the interior as needed. If not using a smart barrier, then don't use both a polyethene vapor barrier on the studs and the taped joints on the durafoam panels as vapor barriers, in order to avoid the possibility of trapping moisture in the wall over time. Can you paint this surface?

No, it's just a thin layer of plastic don't think paint will stick and it would damage easely

I have a 4 foot crawlspace with a clay floor. I've sealed the clay floor with plastic and now wish to seal the concrete foundation from moisture entering the crawlspace along with the cold as fully underground. Can this be used on the interior basement

Asked by: Linda
I interpret the original question as asking about putting the foam insulation on the inside of the foundation wall rather than on on the uneven crawlspace floor. This foam would be good for that usage but you should first seal air leaks in that wall and in the joint to wood structure above. Then tuck tape some new pieces of poly vapor barrier to overlap (2 feet) the joint between the new foam and the existing poly on the floor. The general idea is to let any vapor under the floor poly to escape to the outside of the house through the header area. Monitor the relative humidity in the crawlspace using a remote electronic temperature and humidity guage, e.g. Lacrosse brand. If humidity is excessive then you may also need an exhaust fan to be turned on periodically with a humidistat. For further details, search for encapsulated crawlspace on Fine Homebuilding magazine website.

I plan to ues this for my garage door as well as my basement furnace room. Do I need to install a fire barrier on top of this product? Is this flammable?

Asked by: Jackw
Yes. Stated right on each sheet it is combustible and a thermal barrier is required
