Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful little beast This machine will drill an 8 inch wide hole 24 inches deep in under 30 seconds in good soil. It chews through small roots and spits out good sized rocks without a problem. Small rocks sometimes get caught between the disk and the housing and require a stop to dislodge. Large roots or huge rocks will bring it to a sudden stop - make sure you're holding on tight or you will go for a ride. My kids tell me I should be selling tools at this point in my life and not buying them, but 82 is still too young to start sitting around.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It’s nice enough and made my job overall easier. It... It’s nice enough and made my job overall easier. It doesn’t do very well in clay or with even smaller rocks. I’ll use the auger for a few seconds and then need to use a pole type digger to break up the ground and then use a manual post hole digger to pull the dirt out and any stones and then try with the auger again for a few seconds. The auger makes it slightly quicker but not what I was hoping. It does very well in regular dirt though.

I spent a lot of money and can’t afford to buy a new every year. Please do not waste your money or time buying this product. I wouldn’t want anyone else to be in the same situation as I am.

It repeatedly got hung-up on small roots and fist sized rocks. It does not have a reverse function and it took quite a bit of stressful effort to pull the bit out of the ground each time it stopped. Most annoying was the fact that it appears to flood with each use and is impossible to restart. It starts up great when cold but will not restart when warm

If you're doing miles of fencing or exceptionally deep posts, a 2 person or tractor mounted auger would be better. But for putting up fencing for a small horse paddock, ~36 inch deep holes, this was exactly what I needed. It's certainly no walk in the park to use, but it's about as good as you can get for the price and being a single operator machine. Enough power to get through dense clay, but not so much that it'll rip your arms off. And it's pretty easy to start, I haven't had any trouble and have been using it in 30 degree weather.

Took me about an hour to dig 11 holes (It would have been an all weekend job for this 59 year old!) You must have upper arm strength and be prepared to feel it for a few days!!

Let’s put it this way... if you hit a root and the bit stops turning your handles will try and rip your arm right out of your sockets. So when you feel it start to get caught just let go of the palm switchy thingy to stop the dirt digger-magigger.

how long is the 8in auger bit this comes with ? is it a 2 foot or is it 36 inches for actual 4x4 post holes?

interested in purchasing but if the bit is not long enough then I will go a different route.

From the top of the shock top down to the base of the auger is 32.7 inches. You can purchase a 12" or 18" extension.

The output shaft on the powerhead I’d 7/8”. Earthquake makes 2 extensions. A 12”, product number EXT12 and an 18”, product number EXT18.
