Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality! I have always purchased less expensive trimmers and decided to spend a little more to get something that would last longer than one season. I was impressed by the Echo warranty so I bought the SRM 266. Its only been a month, but I've been very impressed with this trimmer, it starts easily and will cut through anything with ease. I also love the easy and fast loading of the line. It used to take me several minutes to wind it by hand and get frustrated when I let my fingers slip and had to start over. This trimmer is a little heavier, but it's utility is ten times better than anything I've used before. I would highly recommend purchasing this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice piece of equipment Just bought one today, starts up very easily and purrs like a kitten. Been going easy on it to break it in and it effortlessly powered through my tall grass at low rpms. Love the speed feed head, very easy to spool up. Only thing is the line that came on the unit seemed very brittle, used the entire spool up on my yard. I purchased the 250 foot replacement line for it and hope it will be a bit more durable. All in all I'm impressed with it, I didn't mind spending little more on a reputable brand that will hopefully last for years to come unlike the troy built it is replacing that still looks brand new haha.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Professional grade trimmer. I had purchased another brand 4 cycle model about 2 months ago. I used it 4 times, was very unsatisfied and returned it. A friend told me about the Echo models and how pleased he was with them. I visited my local dealer and was very impressed with the salesman and his knowledge of the products. I explained what I was planning to clear with this product and my future plans on possibly adding a cutting blade to it. He suggested the SRM-266 straight shaft trimmer. I am totally pleased with this product. It takes whatever I throw at it. I trim my ditches that contain cattails, briers, and pampas grass, with no trouble. It starts easy, runs strong, turns up fast and doesn't bog down. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking to move up to a serious professional grade trimmer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for around the farm I was torn between stihl and echo for quite a while. After recommendations from friends and echos excellent warranty, I finally decided on the 266. I maintain 15 acres, and typically utilize this machine in 3-4 hour increments of hard work. This trimmer never skips a beat, even in the Kentucky heat/humidity. It starts very easy. Replacing string is painless and efficient. It rips through brush, thorns, blackberries, etc with ease. It handles well with fine lines around the house. I just purchased the blade attachment to start clearing honeysuckle from my woodland, and I’m sure it is the right tool for the job. Save yourself the hours of research and avoid FOBO (Fear of better options). Great tool. Couldn’t be happier.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Average I bought this a month ago and had to return it because the throttle stuck and it started shutting off. I still Have my old echo trimmer and I loved it..... only bought a new one because the throttle cable needs replaced however I'm not nearly as impressed with the new model. I'm 5'8" tall and it seems like my arm is always getting to close to the hot exhaust..... seems like there should be a way to either cover, deflect, or reroute the exhaust. I also think the handle placed is for taller people.... how about a fast locking quick adjusting handle.... finally I don't feel like starting it is as easy as what you promote.... just my opinion.... it's pretty pricy for what it is especially when comparing it to my older one which I've had for over a decade and ran flawlessly....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Powerful a Little Overkill for Average Home Owner This is an awesome professional grade trimmer. It is fairly heavy but comfort in usage in these Echos really comes down to balance. The SMR 266 is balanced well and has MORE than enough power and torque for most home owners. But the SMR 230 is slightly lighter and defiantly more perfectly balanced so is more comfortable and easy to operate for long periods at a time. If you need to cut tall VERY thick weeds and grass often then the SMR 266 is the machine to buy. If you need a powerful trimmer with superb balance and comfort then the SMR 230 is the better buy. Either choice is well worth the money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What a piece of junk. Bought this trimmer looking to invest in a nice piece of lawn equipment. Bought the Echo brand of premixed fuel, trimmer line etc. thinking that I'd have this equipment for a while. Got it home it started up immediately. As I used the trimmer the line work down pretty fast, as it got to be too short I tried giving the head a bump to feed more line and no luck. I probably spent almost 2 hours trimming with 1 hour of that fooling around with the trimmer line. It simply didn't work. I finally was able to finish. Went to start it up about a week later after storing the unit in my garage and now it won't even start. I'm returning this junk first thing in the morning. Very disappointed and won't be trying this brand anymore.

Is this model just for lawn grass or can I clear out an acre of 2-3 foot tall weeds of varying thickness?
Asked by: Ken
The SRM-266 is designed for use as a trimmer/brushcutter. It comes standard with a trimmer head which is capable of clearing and cutting grass and thick weeds. This trimmer and trimmer head would effectively clear the area you have described. However, for thicker saplings or woody growth, we would recommend the use of a metal blade. This unit can be converted to accept a metal blade by installing the Blade Conversion Kit. The part number is, #99944200418.

After recoiling the string it tangles up while trimming the edges, why is that?

Asked by: Will
No, no no. This happens when the shall we call, 'puck', that is inside the head is flipped. When you do this, everything is backwards. I don't know why but it happened to me and flipping it back worked.

Do i used mixed gas or regular gas

Asked by: Bonny
Mixed gas, it is a two-cycle engine and as far as I know all two cycles need to use a gas/oil mixture. The machine comes (at least mine did when purchased) with a bottle of engine oil suitable for treating up to 1 gallon of gasoline, which should last a long time I presume.
