Rated 3 out of 5 by from Leaks Oil after 6 months of use!!!----------Should I recommend this product... you tell me. I purchased this in August of 2019 and I had to get used to this Echo since my old Craftsman of 17 years was starting to degrade. I have been using weed eaters (electric to gas) since I was 16 years old and now I am 43 three so I have experience using weed eaters. So within 6 months after use and when I was about to cut the grass the next time I noticed drops of oil on the floor. I was so disappointed because if Craftsman items were not headed towards the dumps I would have purchased one again like we did in 2002 that lasted 17 years. BTW the Craftsman weed eater was less in cost. vs this Echo unit. This was only maybe 6 months and oil problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Real Deal My "department store" brand trimmer wouldn't start. I did everything short of a carb rebuild and still nothing. I finally told myself to buy a good one. And I did. The Echo is awesome. It has less CC's, but is more powerful. And edges just like the pros. No wonder I see so many "orange" colored trimmers and blowers on landscaping trailers. Also starts easily, and the string feeder is crazy simple. String feeders can cause severe frustration - but not on this model. I can load 20+ feet of string in about two minutes. Genius design! The balance is perfect and the handle doesn't vibrate. Worth the extra money by far. Don't cheap-out. Get the Echo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Machine I had a sears craftsman weed eater that lasted me ten years and never had to take to the shop. After it's demise, I decided I would try a different brand name. I bought brand "X", it lasted a summer. Brand "Y", a summer. Brand "Z", a summer and a half. After much frustration, I did some online research and decided to spend a little more money and go with the Echo.Glad I did. (so far) I have 3 acres to weed eat, and the Echo starts, just like the instructions says it will. Have cut my yard twice now and have yet to replace the string. So far, so good!!! Should have bought this bad boy after my Craftsman died. Probably wouldn't have as much gray hair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love my Echo! This is the trimmer I should have bought a year ago. The debris guard looked a little narrow on the Echo, so I opted for a cheaper Craftsman with an oversized debris guard. Well, the Craftsman trimmer was really junk. It was underpowered and would stall out on the no choke position. On the echo, all my concerns about the danger of a narrow debris guard are gone. It's safe to use as an edger. All the rocks and debris will not fly into your face, arms and legs. I also like the smooth sound of the motor. I call it my "Harley" trimmer. Do yourself a favor. Spend a little extra money and get the right trimmer in the first place. I highly recommend Echo.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great as expected ! I bought this trimmer because I have owned ECHO products before and they are all superb ! I held off on this review purposely to get a few uses under my belt to be fair. The ONLY thing that kept it from 5 stars is the debris shield and before you tell me it meets all U.S. standards I understand that but that doesn't mean it's good ! Reguardless of how you hold it it will beat you with debris ! You should offer the bigger guard to purchasers either free or at a substantial discount as so many people complain about this problem . This is the ONLY problem I have had with any if your products as I said before they are excellent .

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Trimmer head defect Took about three hours to finally figure out why when the trimmer head was tapped to the ground the line would "re-tract " rather than release more line. The head was assembled from the manufacturer backwards. The "quick" line install would only turn CCW but not CW as the manual instructs. I removed the head, took out brass nut and turned plastic gear upside down and now it works. Line will now quick install and will now release more line when tapped to ground. Frustrated that had to waste 3 hours but at least it now works. I suspect mine is not the only one with head assembly defect. Hope this helps someone with similar issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from you get what you pay for. I couldn't believe how fast I was cutting down the weeds and tall grass. This model has a plenty of power. I read some of the reviews about it going through a lot of line, that wasn't the case for me, in an hour of trimming I was only aware of bumping out line 4 times. It started easy and ran smooth. I bought the grade of gas that was recommended and added Sta-Bil. With the 5 year warranty I'm looking forward to using this for a long time. I've had 3 different gas trimmers that I paid less than $100 each for and I didn't get a total of 6 years out of. If you're looking for a well built and easy to use gas trimmer, this is it. Don't hesitate to purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbeatable Tool ! This is my second Echo product; the first was a blower in 2010. If anything, this trimmer is better than the blower - and that is saying a LOT! I could not be more pleased with this tool, having waited 4 months to write this review. It starts quite easily - actually, one pull on "Full choke," then move the lever to "No choke" - and away we go - and always on the very next pull of the cord! The only thing getting used to is the weight - it is heavier than the previous $99 blower I had. But one quickly adapts to that. Echo products cost a bit more and being retired I watch the pennies - but they are certainly worth it - I am a convert!

Is the guard large enough on this trimmer? It seems kind of skimpy in comparison.

Asked by: TMan
I have an older model SRM-225 that has the same guard (after 8 years of residential use I'm about to purchase another one if I can't get the one I have operational w/ the parts I've ordered). I can attest from numerous encounters w/ debris hurled up at terrific velocity that it is essential to wear eye protection (3M wrap around) & in my case, a bandanna wrapped around my face & nose (like I'm robbing a bank). Been hit, nicked & cut too many times. I even walk where I'll be edging to pick up loose rock/pebbles & still that string will find a projectile that seems to invariably make its way to my face/eyes. Also, another inherent problem is the line "melting" together in the head so it won't feed out. I researched this I found the line drys out over time. It can be easily resolved by soaking in water for a day, which restores at least some of of its elasticity.

12 feet (6 feet on each side) .95 line is the best to use. This is the best self-feeding head I have used in the last 40 years.

Is the handle adjustable? Can a woman use it???

Asked by: Stanlena
There's a minimum setting/adjustment that the handle is not supposed to exceed. The overall weight of the unit isn't bad. Depending on how much trimming there is to be done, I'd say an average woman should be able to use it with no problems.

Trimmer ok for 1 + acre property

Some trimmers out there are not rated for larger properties. Can this trimmer handle a 1+ acre property with lots of fence line? Second question. How does this trimmer handle chain link fences?
Asked by: mvoosen
Yes.

Easy or hard to thread?

How easy is this trimmer to thread? Also, is the thread included with purchase? Thanks, in advance!
Asked by: NYC
The Speed-Feed Trimmer head can actually be reloaded without dismantling. With Speed-Feed, there is no need to press-in stiff tabs or unlock mud-incased covers just to refill line! With Speed-Feed you simply line-up the eyelets, thread the line through the trimmer head until it exits the opposite eyelet and pull a couple of arms lengths of line. The line is quickly and easily loaded on the spool by turning the large knob on top of the trimmer head. Cut the line to size and your back in business. Head holds up to 20 ft. of .095" line. (Maximum line size is .105" diameter).

Does it come " assembled " ?

Asked by: Gordo
I ordered my trimmer online, and I had to install the guard and trimmer head. It came with screws and wrench to install the screws. I then had to adjust the handle and I was ready to go. It takes about 5 minutes to install everything.
