Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to navigate I got this product at the urging of my contractor after having issues with 2 other thermostats before. I cant be happier with my EcoBee. It looks great on the wall and all features are easy to get through.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! So far it is a great product. Easy step by step instructions to set up. Easy wifi hook up-no issues. Great look too. It has features I needed such as multi-stage furnace and swing (temp differential) settings. Adjustable swing is a true energy and equipment saver that most people know nothing about-and very few thermostat manufacturers put in their thermostats. Thanks Ecobee.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's growing on me! I've used the product for a month. My background is designing HVAC systems and controls for large commercial buildings. Packaging is almost too beautiful. The install instructions are so good a child could follow them. Unit was up and running in about 15 minutes. A few more minutes and I had access on my phone. So far, so good. I had a very good digital programmable thermostat before and was used to a 0.25 degree range and very short and frequent run cycles giving tight temperature control. The Ecobee Lite claims a 0.5 degree range - which results in longer, less frequent cycling, with slightly looser temperature control. I was very happy with my digital stat, but needed remote access to my thermostat. The Ecobee 3 lite seemed to offer good bang for the buck, and had the meaningful features I was looking for. I initially thought the unit was bad, as it displayed a temperature when I energized it, then a higher temperature 5 minutes later, and the temperature kept climbing for about 20 minutes. Final temp was about 3 degrees higher than initial reading. During this time, the cooling was running and the house was getting noticeably cooler in direct contradiction to the readings. Turns out, the unit has a warmup period, during which you need to ignore the readings. After this, the unit will provide acceptable temperature tracking. This is true every time you power the unit up, so just be aware. The unit readings are impacted by strong air currents, so don't blow a fan directly on it, or aim a register or supply grille at it. I contacted ecobee support via email regarding my initial concerns and they provided a timely response. They asked about wiring, and inquired about thermostat placement. They did not mention the warmup issue, but after a few exchanges decided to ship me a replacement - which I did NOT request. They seem to be very concerned with customer satisfaction - which is very important to me. While waiting for the replacement, I built a test bench and ran tests on the first Ecobee to determine what was going on. I also made a few minor modifications in an attempt to tighten up the temperature response. When the replacement arrived, it exhibited the same warmup behavior. In fact, I was able to understand the device capabilities and quirks fairly well by this time. I kept the modified original unit and shipped back the replacement. Although the temperature control is not as tight as my former thermostat, the thermal lag during temperature reset is lower on the Ecobee. The longer, less frequent cycling will likely be easier on certain components of the air conditioning system. I can download temperature and runtime data into a spreadsheet, which I really like. I haven't gotten any of their fancy comparative reports, as they are woefully slow at processing. The IQ graphic from the ecobee site is an hour behind realtime. Scheduling is intuitive and easy, and should be flexible enough for virtually any user. Cell phone and website access works fine. In summary, the stuff that a wifi accessible thermostat should do; it does well. The eyewash and marketing stuff is a mixed bag, but I didn't buy it for that stuff anyway. Good product and support group is responsive. Now that I understand it, I like it.

Can you control multiple rooms at different temperatures from one thermostat?

Asked by: Emma
Hi Emma, Short answer is no. You are unable to have create two different temperatures for separate rooms. If you are asking about the function of the room sensors, they can work in one of three ways: 1. They can read and create an average across all room sensors to give a better "whole home" temperature and not just worrying about the temperature where the thermostat is place. 2. Using the embedded occupancy sensors, you can enable "Follow Me" mode, this will make sure that your system will only worry about the room you're occupying and make sure it's comfortable. 3. You can turn on and off participating of the sensors during different scheduled times, so while you sleep upstairs - it will only concern itself with making your upstairs comfortable. Hope that answer helps! - Will A., ecobee

I have an older furnace that only has two wires going to the thermostat. Will this work? NEST did not. Too much draw for the furnace to function due to draw to power the thermostat.

Asked by: JollyJ
I’m not sure, but I do know there is a part that needs to be installed at the furnace itself that communicates w the thermostat. If it only has two wires there’s a higher chance of it not working. Eccobee has great technical support that helped us get it installed and working right quickly.

Can I shut my heating/cooling system off completely and turn it on again using my iPhone? I want to shut my system off to save money and then if it gets too cold, when I’m on vacation, I can turn the system on to protect plumbing.

Asked by: Torkamata
Hi Torkamata, Yes you can! You can do it one of two ways: Manually through the app, by selecting the icon (usually a flame or snowflake) above the large temperature numbers and selecting "Off". Or you can set a schedule with different comfort settings, so when you hit your "Away" setting, it will drop to the desired temperature to save money! Hope that answers your questions, Will A. - ecobee

I am single person who works shift. I keep the house at cooler temperatures in winter! 62-65!Can this really save me money?

Asked by: Bigmike1
Hey Bigmike1, Sorry for taking so long to get back to you! Wow, 62-65! You do like cooler temperatures, don't you! And yes it definitely can save you money, because you can schedule this thermostat to only turn to your desired temperature only during certain times. You'll still save money on your bills when you aren't home! Also, if you work shift work - I'd recommend picking up a pack of our Room Sensors, they use the embedded occupancy sensor to detect when you're home and when you're away with zero calibration required! So now matter how hectic your shift-work is, your thermostat will know when you're home for comfort and away for savings! Hope that helps! Will A.

I don't have a compatible phone (old iphone4). Not really interested in smarthome integration right now. Will this thermostat still operate? We have terrible internet service. Dont want this to affect the operation.

Asked by: MissMom
Hi MissMom, I'm sorry this took so long to get back to you! But yes absolutely, this thermostat will work like a fantastic programmable Wi-Fi thermostat. You will still be able to receive energy reports and reminders (if it's connected to our homes Wi-Fi) and if you choose to purchase our Room Sensors to eliminate hot and cold spots you may have - you'll be able to use those without having to worry about phone compatibility OR Wi-Fi, since they pair to the thermostat using a radio signal. Hope that answers your question! Will

I know this is a WiFi thermostat, but can it be controlled from outside the house (like from work) or does it need a smart hub like SmartThings or Wink?

Asked by: Kris83
Hi Kris83, Our thermostats can be controlled from anywhere, assuming it's connected to a reliable Wi-Fi source.! You can control remotely either through our ecobee app (available on Google Play and Apple Store) or if you have a preferred integration partner, we work with both Samsung SmartThings and Wink. But we also work with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple Homekit, IFTTT, Microsoft Cortana and many more! Hope that answers your question, Will - ecobee

Does this thermostat know whether to use heat or air conditioning depending on what is needed throughout the day to maintain the temperature?

Asked by: Ms_Harley
Yes it can do that. There is an auto mode that will pick heating or cooling as needed as long as your heat and cool setting are a few degrees (3 I think) apart.

I have a very small 2 storey house. In the winter the upstairs is much warmer than the main floor. Will this thermostat equalize the temperatures on the 2 floors?

Asked by: Sandra
No it will not, the sensor that Panther is referring to will not equalize the temperature at all, it simply reads the temperature where the sensor is instead of the main thermostat. You could however run your furnace fan and it will help to keep your separate levels closer in temperature.
