Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Working I've had this thermostat for a few years now and when it works it's great. However, new features introduced clutter the UI and break existing features that worked in the past. It's too bad as this product used to be good. As a user you are forced to constantly verify if things are working since you cannot trust this thermostat.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could be easier to use 1. It is difficult to setup and troubleshoot since some settings are only available on a person's web account, others only on the phone app, and still others only on the device itself. Why aren't all settings available in one place, preferably the phone app? 2. The device display is confusing. It appears to show the heating range but actually it is a combination of the heating and cooling temps in one graphic. This information is not useful. It would be better to have the info in two separate ranges, maybe showing only the applicable range; such as the heating temperature range when the furnace is being used or the cooling temperature range when the air conditioner is being used. 3. Finding answers to questions and problems is difficult. A good source would naturally be a searchable user's manual available through the app but it is not easy to find or use. I couldn't figure out why my furnace was overheating the house to 85°F in the middle of the night. Turns out, an extra sensor accidentally fell into the garbage and was taken out with the trash. Since the Ecobee averages temps among sensors, it was averaging the outside and inside temps and trying to heat up the house since it was cold outside. I had to figure out this on my own since I couldn't get assistance online or from the app. Overall this could be a nice piece of equipment but it isn't terribly user-friendly and help isn't easy to find.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Peasy! When my landlord got in a bit over his head, one simple phone call arranged a quick professional installation. The tech was excellent and explained things very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Thermostat I purchased this thermostat due to Enbridge's smart thermostat purchase discount. I had purchased for my Florida home a Nest thermostat. When I purchased it at Home Depot a fellow customer told me to purchase this one as I probably didn't have a 5th cable and it was easier to program and the support staff were in Toronto and spoke fluent English. This device was so easy to install and to set up we didn't need the support staff. After 2 years I still have problems with my Nest learning thermostat whereas this Ecobee is simple to use and appealing to the eye. Great Product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Can't get it to work and no assistance from ecobee I purchased this house that already had an ecobee 3 lite and I cannot get it to work with my phone. I have tried to get help from the company, but they won't respond. Looks like I will buy a different thermostat with manufacturer assistance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy install Installation was easy. Installation/setup/troubleshooting instructions were easy to follow and understand - probably the best installation instructions for any electronic/smart device I’ve purchased

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Temperature reading fluctuates 5 degrees I've had this installed 2 days. The temperature reading is fluctuating by 5 degrees. Two days of 3 tech support sessions have concluded this is because a ceiling fan *in the next room* is causing a slight breeze across the front of the thermostat that is affecting its accuracy. I am able to duplicate this at will by turning the ceiling fan in the next room on/off. My 2nd gen ecobee in a didn't have this problem in an identical setup.

Is this thermostat lockable? We need to manage temp between two units and manage responsible use (e.g. turn off when tenants are not home or have open windows)

In this scenario, you can enable our Access Control feature. If you manage many residential units, you may want to check out our SmartBuildings solution. Learn more: https://www.ecobee.com/smartbuildings/

Does the Battery power the Thermostat, or is it only for back-up? What is the Battery life??

Asked by: Reinhard
Hi there! All ecobee smart thermostats require a C wire for constant power. There is a power extender kit included in the box if you do not have a C wire. Please feel free to reach out to support@ecobee.com. We're always happy to help!

Can you control multiple rooms at different temperatures from one thermostat?

Asked by: Emma
Hi Emma, Short answer is no. You are unable to have create two different temperatures for separate rooms. If you are asking about the function of the room sensors, they can work in one of three ways: 1. They can read and create an average across all room sensors to give a better "whole home" temperature and not just worrying about the temperature where the thermostat is place. 2. Using the embedded occupancy sensors, you can enable "Follow Me" mode, this will make sure that your system will only worry about the room you're occupying and make sure it's comfortable. 3. You can turn on and off participating of the sensors during different scheduled times, so while you sleep upstairs - it will only concern itself with making your upstairs comfortable. Hope that answer helps! - Will A., ecobee

I have an older furnace that only has two wires going to the thermostat. Will this work? NEST did not. Too much draw for the furnace to function due to draw to power the thermostat.

Asked by: JollyJ
I’m not sure, but I do know there is a part that needs to be installed at the furnace itself that communicates w the thermostat. If it only has two wires there’s a higher chance of it not working. Eccobee has great technical support that helped us get it installed and working right quickly.

Can I shut my heating/cooling system off completely and turn it on again using my iPhone? I want to shut my system off to save money and then if it gets too cold, when I’m on vacation, I can turn the system on to protect plumbing.

Asked by: Torkamata
Hi Torkamata, Yes you can! You can do it one of two ways: Manually through the app, by selecting the icon (usually a flame or snowflake) above the large temperature numbers and selecting "Off". Or you can set a schedule with different comfort settings, so when you hit your "Away" setting, it will drop to the desired temperature to save money! Hope that answers your questions, Will A. - ecobee

I am single person who works shift. I keep the house at cooler temperatures in winter! 62-65!Can this really save me money?

Asked by: Bigmike1
Hey Bigmike1, Sorry for taking so long to get back to you! Wow, 62-65! You do like cooler temperatures, don't you! And yes it definitely can save you money, because you can schedule this thermostat to only turn to your desired temperature only during certain times. You'll still save money on your bills when you aren't home! Also, if you work shift work - I'd recommend picking up a pack of our Room Sensors, they use the embedded occupancy sensor to detect when you're home and when you're away with zero calibration required! So now matter how hectic your shift-work is, your thermostat will know when you're home for comfort and away for savings! Hope that helps! Will A.
