Rated 1 out of 5 by from Got home...it's running! Installed about a month ago,tested...fine.Today,may31/19,its running!.No power outage happened.Unplugged pump connection to battery, repluged in,starts running even though float is in down, off position.Unplug pump AGAIN,pick up float, shake, release, replug.Pump stats running AGAIN!!! WILL HOME DEPOT REFUND OR EXCHANGE???Tomorrow I find out when I bring malfunctioning system back to store. My opinion is float switch is malfunctioning causing pump to stay on. Just don't know what started the malfunction in the first place. The was no power outage to cause this backup pump to turn on in the first place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value! After researching several 12 volt DC back-up sump pump kits, I settled on this offering by Ecoflo. This pump has the highest flow rate for the most competitive price that I could find both locally in-store and online. The product instructions leave out some valuable information. I ended up searching for additional information about the kit online and found that an 80 amp hour MINIMUM marine battery is recommended; flooded, AGM or gel batteries are all acceptable according to what I read. The recommended dimensions of the battery for the included box are conservative and I found that a larger one fit perfectly fine inside with no obstructions. I would recommend taking the box to the store to trial fit batteries before buying one. The instructions also state that the battery controller will charge the battery to 13 volts at which point it will switch from "charging" to "charged". I checked the brand-new battery voltage before connecting the power adapter and it measured around 12.5 volts. After leaving it overnight and checking next morning I was concerned when controller still showed "charging" and voltage measured around 14.6 volts. I contacted Ecoflo for guidance and they encouraged me to leave it plugged in. I monitored it closely as it charged to 15 volts at which point the controller switched to "charged" and the voltage dropped and held steadily at 13.25 volts. This process took approximately 2 days to complete. I definitely feel that Ecoflo should update their instructions, but otherwise everything seems really good!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Battery back up system Purchased to replace a 8 year old system ( main pump failed) cheaper to buy new system than a new pump? New system relatively easy to install but not happy with wire connectors, they were poorly crimped. I soldered all wire connectors before I installed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Secondary back up pump - works well Bought this pump as a battery backup. Has been reliable to date. Had a power outage for a few hours and our basement remains dry. Wanted one with a marine battery. 4 stars only until we see performance over time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolutely Terrible Experience With This Product I purchased this back up sump pump in February and when I went to hook it up I discovered that the pump would not plug into the controller. ECO-FLO ended up sending me 3 replacement units before we found one that worked properly. They admitted they were having problems with a shipment of these.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good pump for the dollar value. Battery Back up sump pump does what it claims. Used it a couple of times due to power interruptions and the pump performed as stated.

Does this sump pump run with plug-in power, then if power outage happens the backup battery will kick in? That's what I am gathering but I just want to make sure! Thanks!

Asked by: Kayla10
It does not run off 120V power. It runs off of a 12V battery, suggested is a 12V deep cycle battery which you purchase separately. It is intended to be a backup pump should your other primary 120V sump pump fail, eg, a power failure.

Quelle type de batterie est idéale avec cette pompe de secours? Est-ce qu'un bloc d'alimentation de 700w est suffisant?

Asked by: Manon
Use a deep cycle 12 V battery, one that is design for repeatability charging and discharging. Also, if it is the same room with open flame, eg. furnace, or gas hot water heater, consider a sealed deep cycle battery for safety.

Is the pump submersible, can it be fully underwater?

Asked by: Benjimin
I checked with the manufacturer and the pump is NOT submersible. Now let me add some real world info on top of this. I have two of these 12 V backup pumps (one in each pit) and they are setup to pump only if the primary AC pump fails. eg.a power failure. They were installed at the bottom of the sump pit and remained submersed. This way they would fully empty the pit when they did kick in. This worked fine for aprox 4 years when they both failed on my bi-yearly test. After dismantling, it was full of water, and I discovered the motor brush spring was corroded. So they should NOT be left submersed. Now the pump seems to be designed to keep water out of the electrical sections with, an O ring at the top where the cord enters the unit and another large O ring at the bottom but like i said the unit filled up with water some time over the 4 years and eventually failed. Now as with anything you submerge, If water gets in from the top and bottom stays sealed the water never gets out. Therefore the real critical point is the O ring where the cord enters the top of the unit. So this time I installed the same 12 V backup pump but raised it well of the bottom of the sump pit so the top 1 inch never goes under water. As extra precaution I siliconed where the cord enters the unit. So to confirm once more, install the unit high enough so the top never goes under water. Unfortunately this means the pump will only pump out an amount of water level equal to the height of the physical pump and cycle on and off more often. Therefore, it should only be used as a backup pump for when the power fails. Alternatively you could seek out a more expensive 12 V pump that is engineered to live under water and resist the water pressure of leakage. What I do like about this DC pump is it almost matches the volume pumped my my primary AC pump.

Can this unit run off a car battery?

Asked by: Steve
Yes, however, a car battery is not designed to be totally discharged where a deep cycle battery can withstand discharge/recharge cycles. Eco-Flo Customer Service
