Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works as advertised BUT Works as advertised. Installation was easy. but there are a few things that I thought would be standard in such a unit. So the cons: #1) why isn't the machine automatic? It doesn't have an internal GPG (grains per gallon) meter. So you have to go by feel of the water in the house then go to the unit and press the recharge button. #2) the display is always lit waisting energy. Overall the unit works as advertised but with the price tag you would think it would recharge on its own based off GPG hardness going out of the unit. For people who have multiple floors this would be a major headache.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EcoPure water softener Easy to install if you’re somewhat handy. With some research there’s no need to call a plumber! I’ve had buddies with similar systems installed for 4500$ by qualified plumbers. Systems that are overkill for a residential home. This softener works great, smaller footprint and cost much less for the same result - 1200$ all in . Would highly recommend!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from easy to install - with equipment from other stores Home Depot here doesn't sell anything helpful to install this water softener. I ended up having to go to Kent to purchase 2 - FIP x push-fit flexible connector item 1014356 $18.99 each. I cut the old softener out and used the shark bite connectors on the pipe ends and the 1" connections hooked right into the in and out ports of the softener

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super achat! On m'avait conseillé de gros systemes extremement dispendieux dans les magasins spécialisés pour enlever le fer de mon eau. Ce systeme fonctionne très bien! Mon eau est redevenue limpide! Très satisfaite!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Water level is too high Hi, I bough this a month ago it worked ok at the begining but now I noticed the water level is way way too high. Is there a reason for that?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good unit but cheap attachments Easy to install. It'd be nice if the plumbing attachment was copper instead of plastic though to make the soldering process a little more worry-free.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works good. Good softner, definitely noticeable difference in the water from my old unit. Only downfall is you cannot see when it will regenerate next based on gph usage. It does monitor the water usage but has no option to show on the display. Lacking a few display options from last unit however it works well and is easy on salt. Also customer service is great.

Can you tell me how much noise this unit makes when it regenerates? How long is the regeneration cycle? Thanks, Bob

Asked by: Bob99
Guess noise can be subjective. Had a 10yr old Culligan Gold Series prior to EP42. When the Culligan started it's regen (in the basement) I was aware of it from anywhere on the main floor. Just hit regen on EP42 and I'm in the room directly above it on main floor, can't hear it. Even at bottom of stairs in unfinished basement, EP42 20ft away, can only hear a slight hum. Realized I had a dB meter app on my mobile phone... with phone an inch away 49-52 dB, 4ft away 46 dB, so really quiet. Hope it helps Bob.

Do I need to add water to the brine tank / salt or does the unit do it automatically?

Asked by: Anth
Once connected between the main water line  in and the house the unit is automatic, the only thing you will have to do is add bags of salt to the unit, it has a level indicator inside and also an electronic counter to let you know when it’s getting low, it really is foolproof and has been a very good softener

Can I use the clean feature on my Ecopure EP42 Water Softener for well water and what's the purpose of it and is a clean time of 6 minutes gonna be enough

Asked by: Joey
You need to regenerate the softener periodically so the well water stays soft. You can set the softener so it regenerates automatically or if you notice the water getting hard you can manually regenerate it as well. It takes longer than 6 minutes

Do HomeDepot water softeners come with required hardware/instructions for installation?

Mainly interested in the GE 40K model.
Asked by: Anonymous
The water softener comes with the instructions and hardware for installation. You can visit http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-50176.PDF to see the instruction manual and the only thing required is salt. I hope this helps.

My house have 4 adults, is this EP42 good enough, say two or three adults showering at the same time? Will the water pressure reduce at this situation?

Asked by: ccpyue
I have not experienced any reduction in pressure or flow since I installed my softener. All connections and piping on the softener are larger than my household piping.

Is there a drain hose that needs a sink to drain into?

Asked by: Terry
There are 2 hoses, 1/2 inch diameter, that must be directed to a drain. One hose is an overflow from the salt tank and the other is a hose for the regeneration process. The regen hose has high pressure flow during the regen cycle so it must be tethered into the drain via a tie wrap. My drain setup uses a 24 inch high standpipe of 1 1/2 inch ABS piping.
