Rated 4 out of 5 by from easy to install - with equipment from other stores Home Depot here doesn't sell anything helpful to install this water softener. I ended up having to go to Kent to purchase 2 - FIP x push-fit flexible connector item 1014356 $18.99 each. I cut the old softener out and used the shark bite connectors on the pipe ends and the 1" connections hooked right into the in and out ports of the softener

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not "plug and play" as advertised Though softener appeared same as former Kenmore product, the connection nipples from this softener were plastic instead of copper and were a different distance apart. You'll definitely need a plumber to install if you're replacing a Kenmore, and he had to run for parts--such as adapters from copper to plastic. House copper had to be modified to couple with the on-center difference in the nipples. Too soon to tell re water quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Delivery and installation problems but works well I am quite pleased with my EcoPure 42,000 Grain Water Softener. It works well, with no problems since I had it installed. The first one that was delivered was damaged beyond repair; its replacement had a cracked top. This model cannot be installed without help from a plumber, in my opinion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy return customer! This is my 2nd EcoPure Water Softener, I just replaced my 10yr old unit with a new one. I received great performance from the old one so why not get another EcoPure unit. I have had it only 3 wks but it is working just as well as the last unit.

Can you tell me how much noise this unit makes when it regenerates? How long is the regeneration cycle? Thanks, Bob

Asked by: Bob99
Guess noise can be subjective. Had a 10yr old Culligan Gold Series prior to EP42. When the Culligan started it's regen (in the basement) I was aware of it from anywhere on the main floor. Just hit regen on EP42 and I'm in the room directly above it on main floor, can't hear it. Even at bottom of stairs in unfinished basement, EP42 20ft away, can only hear a slight hum. Realized I had a dB meter app on my mobile phone... with phone an inch away 49-52 dB, 4ft away 46 dB, so really quiet. Hope it helps Bob.

Do I need to add water to the brine tank / salt or does the unit do it automatically?

Asked by: Anth
Water will enter the brine tank automatically during regeneration and then drain back out, leaving only 2-5 inches of water in the tank at the end of the cycle. You do not need to add water to the tank.

Does your water softener remove manganese?

Asked by: Gary
The EP42 is not rated for manganese reduction, but may help with small amounts of manganese. However, if your water has a significant manganese issue, additional treatment such as an iron filter may be required.

How often does it recharge and does it use as much water as the first time?

Asked by: Anonymous
With this electronic system, It recharges only when it needs to based on usage, or if you press the recharge button. It will recharge that night, or if you hold it, recharge instantly. I am not sure on if the water usage varies, but it is a lot less than the older softener used that I had replaced this one with.

Why is this product not CSA certified? Is it UL certified?

Asked by: Anonymous
I have the same unit in 18k config, and right on the inner edge of the shroud that sits atop the brine tank, is a metallic tag that shows CSA certification as well as the NSF stamp. Don't know about UL though....
