Rated 2 out of 5 by from Obvious misses stain Sturdy and easy to install. However, I'm not sure why there isn't something as simple as quality control for this product. I was looking for rustic, not unfinished. As you can see in the attached photos, the stain was obviously applied after the straps were fastened. Both left and right sides are missing stain beside the straps all the way around the mantle (top to underneath). Disappointed that I'll now have to try to match it up to make it look like it should have been in the first place.

My only complaint is the mounting bracket was extremely warped. It looked more like a C then a straight line. I managed to still make it work, got the mantle to sit level before I surrounded it with stone.

As others have mentioned, the stain is no where near the grey undertones displayed. It arrived as a dull, flat dark brown and looks like a terrible DIY project made of poor quality material. I thought after years of similar reviews the J&R Home team would have actually done something, but alas they continue to just produce the same misleading junk.

This mantel is made of wood so it is flammable. However, it is made to be built on top of a fireplace. Please keep a few feet away from the fireplace.

The mounting bar of the shelf would have to be drilled into where it's being installed for it to be used properly. We would be concerned with safety as the unit hasn't been tested to be glued to any surface

How far in from the ends of the mantel are the pre-drilled holes for the wood screws? Does the mantel have to be attached to studs or can wall anchors be used if attaching it to wood? Thank you.
