Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beware of which version you’re getting! Be careful which version you receive. The same product number and sku covers both the 3.55 L box and the 2.66 L box. The larger box has 2 cans that you mix together and there’s no need to wait. The smaller box has a pouch that you mix the product within it and you have to wait before using it. Obviously, that means that they’re not the same. I used 3 of the larger boxes without a problem. I needed a 4th box and figured it would be the same product but it definitely was not! I followed the instructions perfectly and noticed right away when I opened the pouch that it was much thicker. This proved almost impossible to properly spread onto my floor. I would not recommend this product at all unless you’re sure you’re getting the bigger box with the two cans.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to apply Seems a daunting task but it was easy to apply. Choose a day that is less than 50% humidity & the following day, open all doors (Good ventilation) as the odor is strong. A bit hard to track where you put the coat since it’s a clear coat (used your paint tray as a mark). Planning to let it cure for a good 2-3 weeks even though it says you can park your car in 3 days.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Zero support from Rustoleum Spent 5 days, followed all the instructions and applied this coating. Waited 10 days to park my car in only to see tire stains which are not coming off. Tried various cleaners including the Rusteleon but no luck - Sent detailed email to Rusoleum along with pictures, process and everything and no response even after sending 5 reminder emails.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Difficult, expensive, small quantity! Very difficult to use. Box says it covers , up to 500sq on painted surface, it most definitely does NOT, had to buy a second kit and they’re expensive! It did provide the sealant it said with the anti slip grip powder and all that, but the job is far from professional looking. (I’m not a painting rookie either) Next time I’ll be trying another epoxy type clear sealant.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Applied lumpy and overall not happy I spent days scrubbing, cleaning and etching for this system. The gray coating when down great but 24 hours later as recommended when I applied the clear today after following the instructions to the letter was lumpy, not nearly the sqft claimed I would get on it and overall not very happy with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Happy overall but buy double what you think needed Not too bad but very expensive for what you get. I applied the Epoxyshield Garage floor kit with coloured flakes to my gym/workshop which is an enclosed former carport. Before I applied the epoxy kit, I actually rented a grinder to prep the floor instead of using the acid etch provided in the floor kits after reading a number of reviews and information online about DIY epoxy applications. I bought one box of the Premium clear coat, the 2.66L version. I wasn't able to find the 3.7L version that is mentioned in other reviews in any of my local stores. The floor space in the room is approx 280 sq ft. I followed the instructions, timing and application methods on the instructions and what I read on Rustoleum's website. The box says it should cover 450-500 Sq.Ft. on a covered floor. I only got about 240 Sq Ft. out of the one box. The last 40-50 sq.ft. I had to roll super thin to cover everything. I then went and bought a 2nd box to apply the next day and go the opposite direction to get the whole floor fully covered. It wasn't applied super thick either as the one coat didn't quite cover all of the flakes. I could still feel a lot of raised sections on the floor after 1 coat. Overall I'm happy with the finish but it shouldn't have required 2 boxes and for the cost, I think there are probably some better options out there. As others have mentioned, there are some small "bubbles" or bumps/grains in the clear coat in a number or sections. I mixed the pouch thoroughly as well but still ended up with some imperfections. There are a few spots where the finish isn't smooth and shows the roller texture but that probably has more to do with my application. If you don't have very bright consistent lighting in the space, it's very hard to see where you have rolled and how thick or smooth the finish is until after it's dried. But it does look a million times better than it did before.

I'm going to apply Epoxyshield Epoxy paint first then apply Clear Coating on top of it after a week. Will "sparkles" affect bonding of the clear coating? Maybe better not to use sparkles. Any suggestions or experience? Thanks

Asked by: Halfhandyman
Thank you all for the answers. But that's not what I meant. My plan is to apply epoxy paint first, then sprinkle vinyl colour chips, then wait for 5 days without using the garage, then install the clear coating on top of it. Since the clear coating will contact with those vinyl colour chips, not entirely contact with previous applied epoxy paint, a little concern if it will affect the bonding of the clear coating to the floor. Thanks,

can i use this product on wooden surfaces and do i need to put a sealer on the wood first if so? thanks

Asked by: wes1969
Hi West1969, Unfortunately, our Epoxy Shield coatings are not suitable for application to wood surfaces. Epoxy coatings cure very stiff and rigid and do not allow for any flexibility. A wood surface is going to expand and contract and will be quite flexible, and the epoxy will not be able to flex with the wood causing it will crack and chip off.

Can this clear coat be used directly on concrete or on floor leveler to provide durability and gloss without colour change?

Asked by: paul
Hi Paul, While our Premium Clear Coating can go on bare concrete and floor leveler; the floor will appear slightly darker, almost like when the concrete is wet. This is a natural occurrence when a clear is applied. We recommend testing on a small area to make sure you are happy with the look before you proceed coating the whole floor.

Can I apply this Solvent Based clear coat on a Water Based Epoxyshied which I recently applied on my garage floor ? I've heard the moment you apply it to your water based coating, it can soften and sometimes even bleed into the clear coat !

Asked by: shawn
Hi Shawn, Yes, you can apply our Premium Clear Coating over our Epoxyshield Garage Floor Coating kit after 24 hours. After 7 days, you will need to clean, scuff sand with 80-100 grit, remove the sanding dust and then coat the floor. No, the water based coating will not soften or bleed into the clear coat.

Hi Tink, Both cans from our Premium Clear Coating kit is to be all used and mixed together. You need to pour all of Part A into Part B and stir thoroughly for 3 minutes. Make sure to stir the sides and bottom of the can to make sure everything is getting mixed sufficiently.

If you just used the rustoleum epoxy product on your floor. How long do you have to wait to put on a clear coat? And do you have to scuff the freshly painted epoxy floor? Thanks

Asked by: James
Hi James, You have up to 7 days to apply the Clear Top Coat with no prep. However, if 7 days has surpassed since your last coat of the Garage Floor Kit, you will need to clean (if the floor was used or driven on), scuff sand the whole surface with 80 grit, clean off any sanding residue, and apply the top coat.
