Rated 4 out of 5 by from The unit is easy to use and seems accurate. ... The unit is easy to use and seems accurate. Gave it a "Good" due to the fact that a backlight would be useful on the LCD screen. Didn't occur to me as a parameter to consider until I used it in near darkness to measure lighting levels in a poorly illuminated parking lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better then phone App Good for checking light out put in sub divisions and home owner assiocations. I have one annoying neighbor so I like keeping one side of the house as bright as possible, when he complained I showed the president the output and went on his way. Product is very easy to use. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really good for a basic light meter It was ready to go right out of the box, all I had to do was put the battery in and it was set. The only thing I was disappointed about was the price. For what I paid, you would expect it to have a few more options than it did. But for just a basic light meter, it works really well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use meter for evaluating lighting This is a simple-to-use light meter that I've added to my toolbox to help evaluate energy-efficient lighting replacements. The meter itself is very simple to use with just two controls: an on/off switch, and a range switch to change between a 0-200 foot candle range (measuring in 0.1 Fc increments), or a 0-2000 foot candle range (measuring in 1 Fc increments). The sensor is on a cord so you can place it away from the meter (so you don't cast a shadow on it), and comes with a cap on a short chain to protect the sensor when you aren't using it. If I could change this meter, there are three items I'd like to see different: 1) The chain that holds the sensor cap on is very tiny, and looks like it could be easily broken. I'd like to see it a bit more robust. 2) I wish that this had a switch to read in either lux or foot candles (although 1 Fc is roughly 10 lux, so it's not a hard ballpark conversion in your head). 3) In dim areas it is easy to drop below 1 Fc of light, so I wish this had a lower range (say 0-20 Fc in 0.01 Fc increments). If you aren't familiar with evaluating lighting, most bulb manufacturers rate their lights in lumens, which is a measurement of how much light the bulb puts out in all directions. Most of the time what you care about is how much light is hitting the area you are working in (your desk, your kitchen counter, etc.), and that light intensity is measured in foot candles or lux. For example, fluorescent tubes emit light in all directions, but most likely you don't care about the light going up, only the light coming down. How much of that light that comes back down depends on the quality of the reflector design in your light fixture. Many LED replacements for fluorescent tubes put out half or less of the lumens of a fluorescent tube, but they put out all that light going down, and are thus are claimed to be equivalent. With a meter like this, you can find out how the light actually compares. (In my kitchen my LEDs put great light on the floor, but it's surprising how much the light falls off by the edge of the counter where we prepare our food.) To give you some idea of light intensity in foot candles, the manual for this meter clams that typical office lighting in a conference or reception room is 20 to 75 Fc. There isn't much common lighting that gets above 200 Fc (I don't use the high range much). The light cast by my computer monitor is enough to read by in a pinch, but measures at only 0.8 Fc on this meter 1 foot away from the monitor. Thus for my use, I would prefer a meter that can read to 0.01 Fc increments, and don't greatly need the >200 Fc range. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and accurate ! The ease of operation really makes this meter a treasure to own and use. Not a lot of scales and buttons, just turn it on set the range and measure the foot candies in your room. The sensor is on a coiled wire that extends to 4 feet. It comes with a 9V battery so you don't need anything to start using this meter right out of the box. Measure up to 2000 foot candles of lighting. No more guessing whether you have ample required lighting anymore ! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
