Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product performance I am currently using this product to strip an antique dresser of it's original varnish (must be 100 years old) I wanted to choose a product which wouldn't damage the wood as well as one that had no fumes and wouldn't ruin my hands in the process. There was virtually no fumes, removed the varnish with approximately a 10 minute waiting time. I was able to do this project in a living area with a dropcloth only to protect the carpet. I am very pleased with the results and will use this product on an ongoing basis.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mediocre varnishe remover I've used other varnish removers and thought I would give this one a try for a change. The pros: the smell is nice and it doesn't irritate the skin. It's inexpensive and comes in a nice size for a small project. The cons: you have to be very patient and it's messier than other removers. I had to re-apply and leave over night and still had to do a lot of sanding. It's an okay product, I would still recommend for a small project.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worked excellent for me It worked perfectly for me in less than 1 hour. Bonus is, it has no chemical odour, so it's perfect for using indoors. Actually has a pleasant flowery scent. Stripped 3 layers the first time from my bathroom cabinets. The key is - DO NOT LET IT DRY or you will have hard time working with it. Cover it with plastic while waiting. If it dries out, just paint it again and wait few minutes again. If you need to strip more paint, just use more EZ strip. Love this product. Glad I gave it a chance!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor quality stripper, minimal stripping capacity I bought this to take some old finish off a guitar - applied liberally, covered in plastic, and left on overnight. The next day, I tried scraping with a variety of tools (including a heavy scraper), and this solution had a negligible effect. I scraped the guitar several times, and re-applied, with the solution providing no noticeable ability to remove layers of the paint. My assessment is that this is probably best suited for cleaning paint brushes and removing light stains from surfaces, and not for stripping finishes. Stick to varsol for paint brush cleaning, as its much cheaper. As for stripping solutions, I've used a number before, and I'd rate this near the bottom of the list.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked well on an old oak dining table I felt compelled to write a review as I had felt I was taking a chance on this product after reading the poor reviews and wanted to share my experience. I have to say that using this product to strip the varnish and stain off of a dining table was my first experience ever stripping a piece of furniture. As I had no experience to compare it to, I’m not sure how it stacks up against chemical strippers but I wasn’t interested in using a toxic product that could spontaneously combust so this was my choice. The process was straightforward and pretty easy. I think I worked at it too quickly as I’m impatient so I had to do the process twice, once to get the varnish off and once more to get the stain off. Again, not sure how it stacks up to the toxic stuff but seeing as I did this all without wearing gloves not stressing about my dog being in the garage with me etc it was a great experience and I would use it again. It did the job :)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Milder Stain Stripper This product can also be used for removing old stains from decks. Be advised that you'll have to work harder as this is a mild stripper. You needn't worry about skin burns (wear rubber gloves anyway) or strong choking fumes. You might have to use 2 applications of the product, and afterwards sand the deck. However, most deck stains do require sanding anyway. If you want to work with a safer stripper, then use this, albeit as I mentioned you'll have to work longer and harder.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No results. Very disappointed. I tried to remove paint from a hand rail and even applied 2 coats of the gel, after waiting for couple hours there was no visible indication that the paint was affected in any way, I took the edge of the scraper to it and would not budge. I used one of the corners of the scraper and tried to lift some paint. I managed to peel some of it off but it felt very gummy and I could only do one square inch at the time. I do not recommend this product and will be returning the unopened containers back to the store. Reading the revious and seeing half the people having bad luck and the other half successful results I thing there are some bad batches of the stuff out there oe it only works well with some paints or varnishes...and yes I shook the product well before use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! I used this product on very old (~90 years) closet doors that had been varnished originally and then painted over and over and over. Sanding the doors was inefficient and bothersome - not to mention the old airborne (probably lead-based) paint and varnish that would turn sticky and plug up the sandpaper constantly. EZ Strip was a great product that took all the paint and varnish off and left only wood behind. Would highly recommend this to anyone interested in an effective, low VOC paint remover.
