Rated 5 out of 5 by from FIRMAN Generator Great product and great service - the delivery guy brought it to my porch rather than leave it "curbside" as advertised (that had me worried). I'm a single, senior woman and, with a little help from a neighbour who got it out of the box and propped up on a couple bricks, I attached the wheels, handle and battery then moved it where I need it myself. FIRMAN even included 2 wrenches, so I didn't have to search for the correct sizes, which is very considerate. The instructions are very clear. I added the oil (also provided), filled the gas tank and started it up with no problems. The remote start is terrific. I don't have to fiddle with the choke - just turn on the gas valve and battery then press the remote start button. I can turn it off from inside the house, then go out after it has cooled down to flip the 2 switches off and put the cover back on - nice bonus when it's cold out. Haven't had a power outage since getting this (of course), but with this model and the 3 receptacle cord I ordered with it, I can run the fridge, coffee maker/toaster oven, and TV, lamp (or space heater if needed) - all I require to get through one.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Time willtell I bought andreceived this generator. Very pleased with the instructions as I unpacked and assembled the unit. Missing the bolt for the negetive battery post. Manual says it takes 1.1l. Unit comes with 1 l of oil. Put oil in - spilled out as it was full at about .9l. OK lets fire it up! Nothing. Started on the 1st pull with the pull cord. Called the Firman Customer Service line. Had me diagnois the battery voltage and power to the selenoid. Sending me a new selenoid. May turn out to be a great product however I am a Customer not a repair Tech!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works good. Since it is an emergency generator for my house, I only tested it once. The remote control is a great idea and work well at the advertised distance, even through a wall!! It is however a bit noisier than expected. It suffered some very light damage from the delivery, but it seems like a good product to buy . Have to see on the long distance if it really is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product This generator performed as expected. It is a little quieter than the Briggs&Staten unit that it replaced. The remote is awesome, although it didn't want to start on a couple of cold mornings.

How do you recharge the battery? Do you have to purchase a separate trickle charger and can you plug that into the generator as it's running or does it have an on-board charging system that charges the battery as it's running.

    Asked by: Tony
The generator has an on-board charging system that will charge the battery while the generator is running. It is important to make sure you turn the power switch off if you are not using the generator for more then a day or so or you will discharge the battery. If the generator is not being used regularly you should look at a small solar panel charger to keep the battery charged up.

can the remote be used from inside a house

    Asked by: jesse
Yes, the remote will work up to a distance of 75 meters. Please note; always keep the Generator far enough from open windows so Carbon Monoxide does not enter the house.

does the remote work from inside a house.

    Asked by: jesse
I've got the generator located inside a closed and locked shed, and I need to be outside on the deck, around 90' away, before the remote works. I had it work once from just outside the door to the deck, but I wouldn't rely on that. So I'd say, depending on how far away the generator is, it might work, mine is likely just at the outer reaches of what it is capable of.

    Asked by: james
Hi James, We have many customers in Canada that use this 7100 watt generator as back up for their homes. You should have no problem powering you TV, connecting to a surge suppressor would be a good idea. Hope this helps. Your FIRMAN Friends

It does not come with a cord, you must buy one (or several). Both standard and twist-lock can work.

How well does this unit stand up to sub zero weather, if it is located outside?

    Asked by: RonM
Ok if you are planning on leaving it outside to allow for quick starting if needed you should remember that the remote will require the generator to be in "standby" mode to be able to receive the start signal from the remote. That means you will need to have a trickle charger on the generator battery ( 2~ 6 amps @ 12 volt ) so the unit can be left in "standby". Failure to do that will mean the generator battery will run low over time due to power drain.. Sub Zero would mean you should also consider a magnetic or heat blanket (battery heater blanket) wrapped around the bottom of the engine to keep the oil warm enough to handle a "cold start". I would suggest some sort of vent-able enclosure to restrict direct cold wind chilling of the generator. So a little engineering would be required to consider exhaust outlet and cool air inlet on the enclosure. The direct wind chill is the problem to over come, shield it from the direct chill and allow it to breath and be some what warm and it should be O.K.
