Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not quite weather proof, beware of fire hazard We own a dual fuel and a tri fuel Firman, both 10k/8k watts.....they made a slight change on the tri fuel, a clear rubber covering on the 110 breaker which our dual fuel doesn't have, I had never used the 110 outlets only the 50 amp plug but the 110 breaker actually shorted within 30 hrs usage, my opinion water penetrated the switch although it's more water proof then the dual fuel one. Firman is sending a new breaker, wires are slightly blackened, but the tech claims by phone they are suitable to reuse, I question that. The call is recorded if the unit catches fire after fixing when the parts arrive. I like the units but like everything now, quality is questionable

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it...Love it...and Love it. I did a 4 hour test yesterday with my Generator hooked up to a Generlink on my home. This unit performed flawlessly. I turned on all the lights, and ran all the appliances including the furnace at the same time except for the oven and the dryer. As you can see I also built an insulated housing for it to keep it whisper quiet because this bad boy is LOUD. I was going to run PVC tubing from my Generlink to the meter to house/hide the power cable but then decided to just leave the cable stretched out on my garage wall. (Good luck uncoiling a cold cable in February)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Saved us during hurricane. Purchased this generator right before Hurricane Fiona hit. We didn’t have a transfer panel installed as of yet so used this generator the first time with extension cords. It powered 2 fridges, 2 freezers, TV’s internet along with 1500w heating fan and a kettle along with baby bottle warmers and sanitizer’s without even making a grunt. Fuel consumption was about 2L/hour, refilled every 12 hours and still had about 10L in the tank. Going to be installing a Generlink and hope to use this generator for many years as a back up! The only thing that would make this a 5 star would be to have a remote start

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Started up fine on LPG Unfortunately, it appears that Home Depot doesn't allow you the option to update a previous review. The generator arrived at my location on the west coast on Dec. 09 and I ran it today (Dec. 13) after I filled the oil tank. Firman includes a few convenient bonuses, such as a container of oil and a short hose suitable for both LPG and natural gas. The hose comes with an LPG regulator that you would remove for Ng. I test-ran the generator on propane (LPG), although I will be using natural gas after I install a small weather-proof enclosure. The electric start with the supplied battery worked great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Generator and reasonably priced! This generator is incredible. I have mine set up to run on my home’s Natural Gas…never need to worry about running out of fuel. Plus Natural Gas burns so much cleaner…won’t gum up your engine and gas doesn’t go stale. I hooked it up through my home electrical panel using a Reliance Controls 50 amp Transfer Switch, and it works beautifully. I can run my 10 most important circuits like my furnace, sump pump, fridges, hot water tank, internet, etc. I placed the generator inside a small outdoor garden shed and used an exhaust extension, and 12” ventilation fan…keeps the generator out of the elements, and runs quieter. It’s a great setup, and doesn’t crap out with clogged air-intakes like those expensive Generacs that all quit during a strong wind blizzard. We just went through the intense blizzard before Christmas down here in Fort Erie, and this generator was a life saver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad I Bought It I bought this the day before hurricane Fiona hit and couldn't be happier with my purchase. I am now on day 8 without power and run this thing at least a few hours every day using gasoline. I never owned a generator before but am glad I got this. It's pretty straight forward to use. I had an issue with the electric start so I called Firman Support, and with a little bit of work, had it working again in 15 minutes. It started on first or second pull each time I have used the pull start.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent piece of equipment Excellent unit. Have had this for a year running through a generlink with a 50amp cable. Provides back-up power for well pump and electrical accessories. Easy to start on all fuels, easily moved around for placement. Runs on gasoline, LPG or NG, although NG will limit the output and therefor simultaneous use of high amp accessories. A bit noisy, but being in the countryside that is not an issue. Proper placement of the unit and some strategic placement of sound absorbing panels can direct noise upwards and reduce it for the surrounding area. Overall an excellent choice, good price and so far outstanding reliability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent backup generator Have had this unit for about a year and it has done an excellent job providing reliable back-up power for my house. We are on a well, septic and natural gas, therefor my electric needs are specific. Power for the well pump (240 volts) gas furnace and water heater and an select assortment of electrical needs are easily provided by this generator running on gasoline or LPG. Natural gas limits the ability to run simultaneous use of high amperage items, but we use NG as a last resort. The unit is heavy but the wheels allow placement with minimal difficulty. Starting is easy on all fuels as long as one uses the correct procedure. Our NG line is 60 feet long (1/2 inch) and does not restrict the starting or running of the unit. The unit is a bit loud but being in the countryside, that is of little concern. It may be a bit more bothersome to your neighbours in residential areas, but easily disarmed by offering an extension cord. Overall the unit is effective at an attractive price. Easy to maintain, maneuver and refuel. We run this through our panel with a generlink and 50 amp 40 foot cable. Look for deals and enjoy this excellent piece of equipment.

Does the generator need to be in a shelter. I see that some people have put it in a shelter. Or can I just get it out of the garage when needed?

Asked by: SueH
I would not leave it outside unless being used, otherwise have it stored some where temporary or pernament

For this generator, what if the electric powered fan on the NG furnace is hard wired in - does this mean we cannot use this generator?

Asked by: Leaf105
My furnace is the same as yours…it’s hardwired. I bought a 50 amp Reliance Controls transfer switch that can run 10 circuits. This Transfer Switch is installed next to my main home breaker panel. I chose my 10 most important circuits (furnace, sump pump, kitchen/fridge, some lights, internet, etc) and wired the transfer switch. This lets you simple switch back a forth from your generator power, back to the street power easily. A separate plug box is installed on the wall outside my house that the generator plugs into that then feeds the transfer switch in my home beside the panel. Works beautifully, and was a life saver in our recent Christmas Eve blizzard down here in Fort Erie, Ontario.

How can I keep the battery charged if it sits unused for long periods of time? How often should it be run just to keep everything lubricated if it's not needed for long periods of time? Thanks

It says that the 120/240V, 30A Twist Lock outlet that can output 30 Amps at 240 Volts or two times 120 Volt loads at 30 Amps. Can you tell me how many Amps I can get with Natural Gas fuel if I want two 120 Volt outputs on this outlet?

Asked by: Dennis
You will get 22.9A on each of the two 120 volt outputs. Here's the math: 5500W / (120 x 2) = 22.9A. 5500W is the "Running Watts" which is the maximum power the generator can produce over long periods of time. The "Starting Watts" for natural gas is 6900 which works out to 28.75A....but that's available only briefly (maybe a couple of seconds).
