Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Product worked perfectly. Easy to install and looks great. Only issue is this is designed for a 4" post not a 6". Makes for a tough time to get the side bar screwed in

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Unique addition to any deck! Creates a flexible look to any wall. Allows wind to blow through while still giving a “solid” wall look and can open to allow more light. Easier with 2 people, especially when installing louvres. 4 little screws per louvre. If installing on a board wider than a 2x4 make sure rail is near the edge you want the control rod to be on or you won’t be able to screw it in!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Attractive Louver System Great louver system. Installs fast and easy. Only one issue, when you frame a 48" high vertical opening for the side tracks for horizontal louvers, there is a +/- 1-1/4" gap at the top and bottom of the louvers when in closed position. I had to add fillers to close the top & bottom gaps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helped create our dream deck! We have created our dream deck with 4 x 3 ft. sections along both sides of our deck. It's the perfect solution when you want some privacy from the neighbours and looks very appealing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Product - Easy Assembly Purchased these louvers for a privacy fence around our hotub. Great qulity product and easy assembly! I would recommend using deck boards, rather than fence boards. The deck boards have much less tendency to warp. I would recommend this product to others.

I have two sets of these installed horizontally for a privacy wall. They have been trouble free for 2 years. I recently stained my deck for the first time and now one set will not stay in closed position. They always fall back to open/level. Any ideas?

Asked by: Nick
Assuming you installed wooden slats, you should try tightening the screws on either end of each slat. Moving the slats back and forth during the staining may have loosened them.

How long can each louver board be ? Is 7 feet too long ? Thanks

Asked by: BillD
If you are running the boards horizontally, we recommend shorter spans to help prevent the wood from sagging. Spans greater than 4′ are not recommended. The wood species also affects the wood span. PT lumber has a tendency to warp and/or twist when wet, whereas cedar and redwood are more stable. PT spans greater than 4′ are not recommended. If it is not possible to shorten the spans than you can substitute the 1″ x 6″ with 5/4″ deck boards. The 5/4″ boards will be stronger and should be more stable. There may still be some sagging, depending on the length of the horizontal span. We recommend a maximum span for vertical slats is 6′.

I will have either 2" or 3" square metal fence posts. Can the rails be attached/mounted to a post that is only 2" or 3" across? Or will they be too "narrow" for the rails?

Asked by: maljeff
The FLEXfence rails measure 1-1/4" wide. They can be mounted directly onto the square metal posts however, you will have to substitute the wood fasteners( we supply) with metal and self tapping screws. Instead, we recommend that you mount our rails onto a 2" x 2" and mount that onto the metal posts. It will be much easier, faster and will not require you to substitute fasteners.

What would you recommend is the maximum board length, for a horizontal board install, that should be used to prevent sagging for a 1" x 6" board?

Asked by: LesA
I installed these on 4 ft lengths before the winter and after winter an inspection shows that 1 of appx 30 boards had warped, though none had sagged. There are two things to watch out for warping and sagging. Warping is natural to the wood, though sagging is due to weight. To prevent sagging, choose good wood, strong, but not too heavy. And when not in active use to allow airflow, always adjust the angle of the boards so that they are as much vertical to the ground as possible. To prevent warping, treat the wood with a good water repealing preservative. The louvre system is one of the best investments I have made for my Gazebo project. It looks beautiful and functions very well.

Is enough hardware included in the kit for 10 horizontal boards?  If not is extra hardware available?

Asked by: Sabina
Hi Sabina, Thank you for considering FLEXfence for your project. Our standard 4 ft kit takes 11 boards. So there should be no need for extra hardware.

How could I install on my front porch above the aluminum hand ralings between the house brick wall and outer roof support post? The distance between the wall and support post is 6 feet.

Asked by: MaxMax54
You can use 6 foot fence boards so that should fit fine. There is the rod that connects all the boards to space them evenly and open/close them and you need to have access to that by having it extend beyond the surface you have attached the side rail to. This is hard to explain...if you install more than an inch from the edge of the surface you can't access the screw holes. This is only necessary for the back side. The front side does not have this consideration as the rod is on the back.

Could this be used on top of a Pergola to open and close to provide light or shade or rain cover? What would the snowload be?

Asked by: LauraM2
Thank you for considering FLEXfence for your project. Yes, FLEXfence louver system has been used by many DIY'ers and contractors for Pergolas. On our website in the Showcase section we have many examples of FLEXfence pergola roofs. Can I use 6 ft vinyl fence boards instead of wood with this system on my deck?

Asked by: Prima
Yes, you can use vinyl fence boards instead of wood. Depending on the vinyl brand, you may need to make minor adjustments. For example, substitute our wood fasteners with machine screws washers and nuts. If your boards are wider than 5 1/2" than you can easily remove a bracket end cap ( designed to easily snap off with pliers). We demonstrate on instructions and/or website instruction video.
