They recommend using tape on the seams but I have not found any GAF Feltbuster tape. Tyvec tape might work but that gets really slippery with even a little water.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like it Unlike weather watch, which I think is an absolute abomination, I really like this stuff. I've only used tar paper on a small project, so I can't speak for benefits of one over the other in terms of usage, but I remember the tar tearing easily, getting really hot in the sun, being sticky and altogether not fun to work with. This stuff covers 100 square per roll, is the same price as #30 paper, doesn't rip, doesn't get incredibly hot and is fairly nice to walk on. Granted, I'm on a 6/12 roof with a couch cushion, but walking along seems to be fine, also. Installed per specification, cap nails 12" on edge, every 24" in the field, no rips or tears. Will split a little if you hit it with a hammer and the anti skid stuff frays after a while, but it seems like a quality product. Taking a suggestion from another poster, I'll use the leftovers as house wrap around the garage. When cutting, use a scissor or make sure you have a sharp razor. A slightly blunted blade andthe stuff just won't cut. Now i just wish cap staples were more commonly available. Hand handing 10 square with cap nails so far has been a time consumer.

I pondered using felt rolls which required about 7 times $30 would have been over $200. This product cost me around $70 for a coverage of 1,000 feet and still some left. I held pretty good the rain few days after installing it. I use special nails with plastic heads and it took me more time to nail them than to install the product. I would recommend buying it if your projected expenses are beyond $75. 3 Kudos to this product.!!!

The GAF Feltbuster advert says that it is a "Breathable" underlayment. You state here that it is not "breathable". Who is right ?

Asked by: John
Hello, FeltBuster is not a breathable underlayment. GAF offers Deck-Armor which is in fact a breathable underlayment. Thank you for your question.

Is this underlayment permeable? as well, is 4ft at the base sufficient for protection? or should it go 7 ft with a ft overlap when laying it down?

Asked by: not a roofer
Hello and thank you for your question. FeltBuster is not classified as a permeable or breathable underlayment. For a breathable option, you may want to consider GAF Deck-Armor. In terms of installation, we typically recommend a self-adhering peel and stick underlayment, such as GAF WeatherWatch or StormGuard be installed at the eave edge, valleys, and around any penetrations in the roof, with FeltBuster then installed on the remaining areas of the roof. Please give our technical team a call at 1-800-ROOF-411 or email them at technicalquestions@gaf.com for more specifics on installation. They would be glad to help. Thank you!
