Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but not what expected The site mentions that the pruner has a 2.2cm cutting capacity (I specifically chose this one has it was the biggest cutting capacity), but it has actually a 1.5cm cutting capacity. Disappointed about that, other than that the product is good. The lock is not easy to use, especially when wearing gloves, a lock under the thumb would have been much better. Cutting power is great.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK Ratcheting Pruners These pruners perform adequately as listed. The ratcheting mechanism is not as smooth as previous pruners I've owned that were a different make, it sometimes takes a couple of squeezes for the ratchet to notch up. That said, these are an order of magnitude easier to use than non ratcheting pruners.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ratchet action does not work and dull Bought this to replace a similar ratchet trimmer after 4-5 years thinking it would be the same as it looked very similar. This model is no where near the same and too late to return. The blade was not as sharp either.

What is the removable plastic bit in the handle for?

I think it maybe to clean the debris that builds in the crevice when the blade squishes/cuts down
