Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not work Purchased this kitchen hood for a relative as a Christmas gift. Because of covid and time restraints I was only able to install the unit yesterday, March 6th. Installed and wired the unit. Peeled off remaining plastic covering and tried to turn unit on. The buttons on the front "caved in" when pushed and remain stuck in. Also the plastic deflector which had to be installed was cracked but I was able to tape it with aluminum tape. As it stands, this thing does not operate at all and two buttons are crooked and stuck in.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Just OK Fume Hood The look is look and price is OK. However, there are a few I am not totally impressed with. 1. The plastic housing of the fan is flimsy and a bit cheap. On the same note, the junction box is not that strong. Our old Broan hood is much stronger. 2. The air deflector piece doesn't do its job. It is supposed to stop the air from going to the indoor outlet, but when proper installed, it only stops a small portion of air. 3. The lamps look nice, but they are extremely hot. 4. The installation instructions, does not specify the size of the strain relief. So for people who want to plan the install ahead of time, they have to buy both sizes, 1/2 and 3/8. Just to share my experience with this device.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Functionality and design - VERY POOR I bought this to upgrade from a cheaper range hood with less CFM. It turn out that this model is VERY POORLY designed and functions WORSE than my 12-year old, cheaper model. There are several problems with this unit. I would have given it 0 stars if I could have. 1) Don't be fooled by the 2 grills. There is only 1 fan and it is positioned on the left-hand side. When installed, there is no suction underneath the right-hand side. Steam from boiling water is not captured and escapes. 2) With the fan on the left-hand side, you would think that suction on this side would be ok. Incorrect. With the fan speed on max (boost), the range hood could not capture steam from boiling water on the front left grill. I have installed the hood correctly. 3) With the fan speed on medium, high, or boost, the entire unit vibrates and shakes like crazy. Again, I have installed this correctly. The unit is firmly attached to the cabinetry. From what I can tell, there is a design flaw in how the overhang attaches to the main part. 4) Charcoal filters are expensive and hard to find. But this is an afterthought compared to the problems list above. Stay away from this product. This is my first GE appliance product I purchased it based on the average high rating from 500+ reviews on homedepot.ca. I presume the majority of 4+ and 5+ stars are fake reviews since I can't see how anyone in their right mind would give this a rating of above 1. For similar reviews, take a look at all the other 1 star reviews. I will be very skeptical of any GE appliance in the future as a result of this experience.

Made of cheap materials and metal that all deform under the pressure of it's own fan. Avoid at all costs. Furthermore, GE sensors their ratings page as my previous, detailed, review was removed. Avoid GE.

The manual does not state what kind of carbon filter is required. It ought to include the model number. Searching for the model number on homedepot.ca ought to immediately bring up the correct carbon filter.

Editing our Answer, Sorry: We purchased 2 GE model # JVX5300SJSC range hood online. We installed one of them but not happy with functionality of this kind of GE hood range!! By the way we returned another one UNOPENED, clean and on time to Home Depot but Home Depot Charged us $50.00 without our knowledge ! We paid for delivery charge, later returned the item minus $ 50.00 and received Almost nothing !!

This hood is designed to be vented vertically using a 7" round duct or a 3 1/4” x 10” rectangular duct or horizontally using a 3 1/4” x 10” rectangular duct. Do not use less than a 7” diameter duct.
