Rated 5 out of 5 by from Slick Installation and Features My wife and I bought this generator as a backup generator for our new cottage, in an area prone to power outages. Home Depot shipped it directly to the work site and the installation was easy with the integrated pad (no need for a separate concrete pad) and good instructions. The electrician hooked it up no problem and the activation procedure (online to get an activation code unique to the generator) worked a treat. The first test worked flawlessly (we have it set up for propane fuel). Note that unless you bought the auto-transfer switch, for example if you bought a different brand of switch, you will have to buy and install the fuze and cable to the 12V startup battery trickle charger yourself. Overall, a bit noisy but, after all it IS a 22KW generator!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer beware Purchased 22kw generator in August of 2018 for piece of mind. Unit was hooked up in November of 2018. First power outage was 8 hours long in June of 2019 at which time I noted oil spraying out of generator. Entire bottom of unit was covered. Contacted Generac who provided the nearest certified technician. Upon speaking with them they advised Generac absolutely horrible in covering warranty. Will not cover travel time which for me means I am out 600 dollars they only cover a maximum of half hour diagnostic time. I looked over machine notes a leak coming from head gaskets all bolts were loose. Tightened them down hoping that fixed the problem next power outage revealed it didn’t leak seems to be coming from rear seal area. Generac again can only recommend a certified technician. A costly venture. Contacted Home Depot who advised 90 day return has passed. In the end an expensive piece of mind is an expensive yard ornament

Rated 1 out of 5 by from nothin but problems purchased this for a customer and installed remotely as a whole house install . had new natural gas lines run and an automatic outdoor rated 200 amp transfer switch upgraded home service to 200 amp from 125amp service . ran new lines underground to house used new 200 amp panel to support whole house essential and generator powered circuits and used old panel to contain the non essential circuits with a contactor connected to a 50 amp SMS to disconnect / power shred the existing panel from the 200 amp during a power outage . why cant generac design a remote monitor system that doesn't cost money monthly and would allow you to program / check status of system inside house / easy peasy . system has battery charge issues as well as shows overcrank error constantly . and now apparently i need to run a internet connection to the pole 200 feet away to pickup the darn wifi signal . im a red seal low voltage electrician and have hired a high voltage electrician to pull the needed permits .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recommended Whole House Generator For most homes, this is a "whole house" generator. Operates fairly quietly and efficiently. Kicks in very quickly with a power outage - you barely notice when the transfer switch kicks in. FIND AN ELECTRICIAN WHO IS EXPERIENCED WITH GENERACs and you will save time and money. When you factor all the other fixed costs and extras, getting the top end 22kW vs. say the 16kW makes a lot of sense for a difference of $1,000: get the peace of mind of a whole house generator. There are extras - you will need a transfer switch which your electrician can help you size, a battery (trickle charged from your home wiring), plus a cable run from the generator to the transfer switch. For liquid propane (LP) you need a propane conversion kit. You should also get a battery warmer and oil filter warmer - also sold separately. You can also buy a Generac cement pad for it to sit on - and it's good to bolt it down to a cement pad to guard against vibrations. With all that and the costs for an electrician, licensed gas fitter for the natural gas or LP line, and utility inspection, budget at least $10,000 all-in. If propane, you should have a 500 gallon/1800 litre tank. Buying the unit from Home Depot will also save you money vs. buying from a dealer/installer. The newest units come with WiFi and you can download an app to get monthly usage info. This is my second rural home with a 22kW Generac - a must when you have to rely on frequent power outages on rural poles and wires.

Et que dire du Wifi super le fun je suis au courant par texto et un courriel lors d'une panne. Je la recommande.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from After one year of only running it's regular on and off cycle once a week, when the power went out... After one year of only running it's regular on and off cycle once a week, when the power went out and I really needed it to come on, the unit did not come on ( by itself ). I had to manually go outside and get it running. The people who installed it ( hired by Home Depot ) did their job well and then I asked about a yearly service contract. I was told a company would get in contact with me. Didn't happen. I contacted THEM at least three times. They never called me back about setting up a contract for maintenance. I finally found a local company who does Generac maintenance. This morning. because a possible ice storm is coming this weekend, I went out to look at the generator. Red light. The weekly on/off cycle failed. I was able to start it manually again. The feature they rave so much about... "You don't have to do a thing. The unit comes on by itself' seems to be not true. So watch out for the hype.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Generac Generator 22000 w Very happy with our purchase of a Generac generator and services provided for installation by Home Dept and Prestige Electric. It certainly gives us peace of mind knowing that should we have power outages even if we are not home that the automatic switch over will handle everything for us.

Does the 22KW generator come with a automatic transfer switch, and if so which model is it?

Asked by: Pascal
No it does not come with transfer switch, you will need to purchase it separately. You need to know the total use amperage you will require for your home ie; 100 or 200 amp. You will also need to know the code requirements for your region, example in Canada the transfer switch must be CSA approved and not all Generac transfers are. You need to do your homework before making the purchase.

Looking at the 22kw generac generator for our new home; Getting different opinions as to which automatic transfer switch I need for this generator; 100 vs 200 amp? Thank you!

Asked by: elise
100 Amp at 240 volt. there a two types of automatic transfer switches in 100 Amp one is regular other is good for service entrance ( if your main service is 100 amp transfer switch is installed line side of your main switch ) and is almost double in price. RXSC100A3 is the part number for regular one.

My home is a 400 amp single phase 120/240 service. What model number transfer switch do I need to purchase with the 22,000 watt generator?

Asked by: Benji
You would need either the model #RXSC400A3 or the #RXSW400A3 transfer switch with your home and the Generac model #7042. We recommend working with an authorized Generac dealer to determine the best setup for your home. If you need assistance finding a local dealer, we recommend using our dealer locator found here: http://www.generac.com/dealer-locator
