I asked that question twice to Generac and never got an answer. Just had it installed so don't know exactly what will happen during an outage. I am a senior and my husband has dementia so this was difficult for me. Powers up to 8 circuits but I had no idea that certain things use more than 1 circuit so I am not going to have as much power to rooms that I thought I would. Also very disappointed with Home Depot. Reached out to them for someone to install and never got a response. Took me 3 weeks to find an electrician to do the work. So hopefully it works once we lose power.

Although this question has already been asked, I am still not clear.....can this system run on a propane tank smaller than 100lbs, such as a 50lb tank

100 lb tanks are a real problem for me since my cottage is boat access. I would need to be certain that this system can run on something smaller
Asked by: Anonymous
It can run on a 20lbs BBQ tank, the difference is of course that it will not last for long. So the 50lbs is good, the 100lbs would be even better. Remember that propane is liquid under pressure and requires energy to change back into gas vapour, so the small tank might freeze in a short period of time, what I would suggest is having a Y for 2 tanks that can be bought from RV dealers, that way also you could change one tank while one is being used, then switch both on and have the equivalent of 100lbs in total.

Nobody home and Generac 7KW happens to run out of Propane

I'm about to purchase the 5837-7KW Generac, but one unique question remains: Let's assume the main power (utility) goes out, the Generac kicks in, all is good. After a few hours the Propane supply is depleted and the Genrac turns off. With the Generac 7KW engine now off, later on, the utility power returns (remember, there is still nobody at home). Would the transfer switch by itself still be able to switch from standby power back to utility power ??
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, the way the transfer switch works is using power from one of the source of power, independently if it is from the generator or grid.

can the 7kw gen run as a automatic solar battery backup plant in a off grid system

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes it can, most generators can. The only thing is that this generator you need to remember produces 120/240Vac and your inverter from your solar system takes the DC from your panels and converts into 120Vac. The inverter needs to be able to be grid type if you are going to run it at the same time as the generator, or you will need to add a battery charger to the generator so that all the power goes in the batteries. Generac also sell an ECO unit, specially designed for off grid systems.... you may want to go with it instead of trying to add things around for safety and compatibility and effiiciency also.

instalation costs

That would be the average Installation cost For the 7000Kv generator

average depends on if you have nat. gas or propane already at the location and if your electric is up the code it should range approx 4000.00 if starting from scratch about 2000.00 if gas exists
