Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broken Glass - Too Much Heat!!! We used this product and less than 24 hours later our 4' x 5' window cracked on the inside and continued to crack until the only thing holding it together was the film. We now have to spend over $1000 to replace the glass. The reason was explained to me from a glass manufacturer: when you apply this film to a double paned window, the sun reflects off of the film and overheats the gas between the windows causing the glass to crack. There is nothing on the instructions as a warning that this may occur. The window manufacturer told us that this product would have been better applied on the outside of the window, which again, is not described as an option and I probably wouldn't have bought it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very effective and easy to install I purchased enough product to cover 4 large windows (8' x 6') and various small windows. Total install time from start to finish was about 5 hours. Three of the large windows face west so we were getting intense sun for about 5 hours during the afternoon which made our second floor scorching and the A/C was unable to keep up. The difference once the tint was installed was astounding, at most the temperature on the second floor is now about 3-5 degrees higher on a hot summer day. It's been up for about a year and no bubbling or peeling and it still lets enough warmth through in the winter. I've recommended it to a few neighbors and I will be installing it at a few of my relatives houses.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just as advertised Highly recommend that you watch the How to Videos and READ the directions before you start. The product was very easy to cut and install (watch the video). I used 3 and a half rolls altogether on 7 large multi panel windows and had no problems (if small bubbles appear in the first 24 hours just leave them and they will go away) . The product has a grayish tinge (like sunglasses) after installation. Definitely made a difference in heat transfer to our home and I like that I don't have to chase the sun around opening and closing blinds worrying about fading the furniture or pictures any more. Would highly recommend and will diffidently use this product again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Film just peeled off my patio doors overnight I ordered this window film for my west facing patio doors and east facing windows, and applied the film by instructions in the afternoon. It looked fine overnight even the next morning when I left for work, but when I was home from work, the film just all peeled off the doors. Such a waste of money and my time. Very disappointed experience. I was referred to the manufacturer for warranty claim, very likely they are going to send me new films instead of refunding me. Do you really think I want to repeat the nonsense work again? Go for alternative ways for heat control if you could, this kind of window film doesn't work as expected, and not worth a try.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Window film I bought this for my patio doors off my bedroom. The only trouble I had was getting the film off the mirrored part of the covering. It took me well over 45 minutes to get the corner started. I used baby shampoo instead of the gila window spray . I looked it up as I have to order everything where I live and it recommended a non alkaline shampoo such as baby shampoo. use 1/4 teaspoon in one litre of bottled water. It worked just fine. Make sure you cut your film bigger than the window so you can adjust it for a good fit. Other then that make sure you have no hair lint or dirt on your window and your good to go. Hope this helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product Our front entry has 8 large windows that are approximately 3x5'. In the summer it was a space in the house we couldn't utilize because it was incredibly hot due to it being on the East side of the house. I ordered this tinting and received it only 2 days later, which impressed me, and my husband and I spent a few hours putting it up on every window in the front entry. If you take your time and read the instructions carefully, it's very easy and the result has been amazing. The key is to make sure you keep the tinting and the window wet and don't rush. We achieved doing it without any wrinkles or problems and it looks great. We can now use our front entry comfortably and the 'fish bowl' feeling is gone. I would highly recommend this product to anyone wanting to keep out heat and glare. Don't think that it has to be a professional to install because it was our first time using it and it's great!!!! Thanks for a wonderful, affordable product to fix our problem. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Great product. We have large windows and the sun heated the house in summer, but instead of installing an air conditioner, we tried a cheaper solution first. The installation was fine after watching few videos on how to do it. The result is much lower heat penetration into the house when the sun is shining... Before, even with the curtains closed, you could feel the heat right trough. Now it is significantly lower. On the picture you can see the film installed on all windows except the left one.

Does this product be peeled off during winter and put back again in summer the following year? Will there be any negative impacts during winter or designed to retain internal heat?

Asked by: MMag
It can easily be peeled off but very difficult to put back on. No negatives for keeping it on through the winter except it blocks warmth from winter sun. Not designed to retain heat

Is this something that once you put it on your windows it is there permanently?

Est ce une pellicule statique ou collée !

Asked by: Mario
Il s'agit d'une pellicule statique. Si la fenêtre est grande ou pour une porte patio, il faut être deux personnes. Elle semble fragile et nous doutions qu'elle passe l'hiver mais est toujours en place.

Does the product provide privacy?

Asked by: Rocky
This provides daytime privacy. During the night, since the greater source of light will be the lighting in your home, someone looking into your window from the outside will be able to see in if the lights are on indoors.

Can this film be installed in double panel windows? Any risk of cracking due to heat retention?

Asked by: Erusch
Yes, this film can be installed on double paned windows. BUT you must use the green tool to create a small gap between the edge of the film and the frame. Install the film so it initially slightly overlaps the edge of the window/frame. Then use the green tool to remove approx. 1/8" of film all around the edge of the window. This small gap in the film allows the window to expand and contract - and prevents possible cracking. I installed the film on 8 double paned windows 3 years ago, and have had no problems. Just as a note of caution, I found the video instructions on the Gila website were quite misleading with respect to the green tool. Based on the video, I thought the green tool was to be used to cut the film into the edge of the frame (quite the reverse of what you want). Maybe it was my misunderstanding, but it wasn't until I phoned Gila (to get reassurance that my large, double paned windows were not going to crack), that I found out that I needed the gap. I have seen other people complain that the film did cause their windows to crack, and I think this is maybe why. Glia, if you're listening, this is something that should be remedied on your website. P.S. To increase your success with installation use lots and lots of application solution. Saturate the window and the film. You can make more of the solution yourself. See "Solution Substitute Recipe". https://gilafilms.com/help-how-tos

Can this be installed on windows externally for the same effect? I have it on my interior living room windows and find that the window pane gets very hot.

Asked by: Steeve
The window pane will feel warm, but it should be fine as long as you have THE 1/8" gap between the film and the frame all round the outer edge of the window. There is a green tool that comes with the application package to do this. If you have already installed the film right to the edge of the frame, you can maybe still go back with the green tool and trim off a 1/8" strip all round the edge. [Maybe wet the film again, so it doesn't rip]. I have mentioned on this forum a few times that Gila does NOT make this clear in their video instructions. It needs to be emphasized. I have watched the video again recently, and it has still not been revised.

Can and/or should this be applied to the inside or outside of the window? One reviewer mentioned a heat and broken glass issue, just curious before purchasing. Thank you

Asked by: greenthumb
Hello and thank you for your interest in Gila Window Films. The Gila Heat Control Titanium is intended to be installed on the inside/interior side of the window only. Please note this only for single and dual-pane windows. If you have another type of window, please call Gila Window Films Customer Service at 1-800-528-4481 to review your application.
