Rated 4 out of 5 by from Helps, but tricky to apply I purchased two roles of this film online. I also checked out the Gila website to see how to apply it first, it says you need the application solution which is not sold online or in stores in Canada. Instead they suggest you use 1/4 tsp no tears shampoo with a quart of water, so I did that. There is a noticeable difference in the temperature of my room and the color is not too dark at all. Applying was tricky though, even with two people. It did bubble quite a bit and still has a few that I couldn't squeegee out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Gila Platinum It’s not an easy project and I like things clean and neat on a project , purchased the Platinum for it is the only one recommend for gas filed dual pane windows, I did 8 windows and wanted the glare and heat control, to do the windows properly put a side 4 hours plus for 3 windows 30 x 60 split windows, a couple of larger windows is more time, again it’s not an easy job !!!! you have to make sure the windows are very clean with a lint free cloth, the area your cutting the material as well, make sure u mist it as you peel it, and I got a few marks in the film on a few windows from pulling it back as it curls when attaching to window harder job on your own that’s for sure !!!!hope it lasts long for I don’t want to replace it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Window Film = Wonderful This is a great product! When I came back from work the next day after placing the film, my bedroom (where I put the product) which faces south and is on the top floor was a good 5-10 degrees cooler than it usually is on a nice sunny day. I've been in my place for three years now and I regret that I never did this sooner, it also would have saved my curtains from fading! The other reason I got this product was so I could finally hang up some original artwork and not worry about them fading too. Lessons learned: 1) You can save some money by using a bit of baby shampoo (maybe even dish soap) mixed with water in the sprayer instead of their premix. 2) Two people to help remove the backing film or a big enough flat surface to work on. 3) Don't be afraid of using alot of the spray mixture (on BOTH sides of film as well as the window!) 4) Have enough razors, they dull fast with this stuff. 5) Have a good straight edge (not too long or short) if you need to do a seam. 6) Remove obstuctions around the window frame first , ie. window locks, blinds (pull cords), etc. Overall I had a positive experience and will do it again on other windows in my home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good, but only the smallest sheet size available This is Home Depot's largest size available for Platinum. Wish that Home Depot had the connections to obtain the 3' x 15' or even better the 4' X 15' sheet that Gila offers. This would have cut my costs to about 25% of purchasing only the 3' x 6.5'. That being said, it would have been much more difficult trying to cut up the 4' wide sheet. I used an online cutting list calculator to help lay out 20 south-facing windows. Used the 1/4 tsp of tear-free shampoo to 1L of water application solution and had a rubber squeegee already handy. Using plenty of solution on the window and BOTH sides of the film proved the best results. I did it all with one person, but 2 people would have reduced the problems encountered and sped up the cutting and application times. On average it took me about 1 hour per window (clean, cut, apply). Previous recorded high temperature in the house was 50C 3' from the windows, with fading of furniture and upholstery also being a problem. I am sure that this will stop the fading. The entire house only increased by 5C instead of the usual 15C the last couple of days. Waiting for a heat-wave to determine how close to the 50C will be reached.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Installation challenging but product is effective It's definitely a challenge installing this material on your own. The film is so light that it will curl onto itself with the slightest breeze and is easily damaged. Pre-cut squares in a few standard window sizes/lengths (cutting excess off once installed is easier than cutting before installed) would have been a nice option... the performance of the product once installed seems excellent. Although I never quite got rid of all bubbles. Install with a buddy if possible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Appreciate how it cuts the glare. I am very pleased with the product. I have some windows facing directly west, and the sun just pours in during the late afternoon / early eveining, heating up the house. This window film really does cut the heat, and best of all, I really appreciate just how much it cuts the glare. It makes it so much easier on the eyes. I installed this film entirely on my own.- you just have to go slowly and not skip any steps, and then there are no problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Product to Install Did research for weeks on the net as well as contacting the company by phone before deciding to buy this product. I bought 3 boxes in July 2010 but never found the right time to install it. I had 4 three foot by 4 foot windows on a sun porch (facing south) to cover. The 3 boxes would have covered the 4 windows by using the pieces left over from the other 3. However this past month, I decided it would probably be easier to install 4 full pieces and use that left over for smaller windows within the house. Today is 11 June 2011 and I finally found a couple of helpers and the weather was perfect for the installation. All of us had watched the installation video available on the Gila website. Time, patience and a good understanding of the application process are a must. Mistakes were made with our first window such as the film sticking to itself. The rest of the job was not a problem. We did take our time and had a coffee break but it took less than 4 hours to do all 4 windows and so far are totally satisfied with the result. Application steps cannot be hurried or the final result will not be as expected. Use LOTS of the application solution. Note: there is no reason to purchase the solution as 1/4 teaspoon of baby shampoo (no tears) with no added conditioner in a liter of water works as well as the Gila product. Also as long as you have the other items that are in the installation kit or a good substitute, application is easy. According to the hundreds of reviews I have researched on this type of product, I would highly recommend getting the Gila product rather than any other.

Is this particular product adhesive or static cling? Manufacturer says they sell both and provides this info: UPC 45162488259 is static Cling (3 ft x 6.5 ft). UPC 451624873 ...Home Depot only has this listed as Model # LES366|Store SKU # 1000702560

Asked by: John
It’s static cling. The film actually has a clear plastic protective sheet on one side that I didn’t notice before I installed it. Make sure you apply the film side to the window so you can peel off the plastic layer afterwards. I ended up installing it backwards... plastic film side against the window. It’s worked out fine anyway.

Will this work for a skylight?

Asked by: Luke
Yes this can be installed on a skylight. The most important element of this question is personal safety. Applying film to windows that you can easily reach is a skill that must be mastered before you consider applying film above your head. Anytime you consider applying film to a window that has a bottom edge more than 7 feet above the floor, you should seriously consider one of two options: Work with an equally experienced partner as a team, or Hire a contractor or window film installer to do the work for you. Handling film on a ladder is at least twice as difficult as applying film to a large patio door by yourself.

There seem to be two types of product. One has adhesive and one is static cling. Is this platinum product an adhesive or static cling application?

Asked by: Above49
This is a static cling product. Works well on a clean surface.

Hello Re: Gila window film There are three types of product. Platinum Titanium and peel and cling. How do they differ. I want it for in a sunroom keep the room cooler and block the sun as much as possible on one side. Are they different quality etc

Asked by: Claudette
The platinum is what I used. It has made night and day difference in the heat in my south facing rooms. I am really happy with this investment, although it takes patience and practice to put up. Titanium is the mirror reflection to prevent anyone seeing inside from the outside, but it has the opposite effect at night.
