Rated 3 out of 5 by from WARNING: Good luck using a jigsaw to cut this I bought a piece of this to make a cutout for my window air conditioner. I used a Dewalt DCB331 cordless saw with fully-charged batteries. Acc. to reviews, this saw has plenty of power. I did everything by the book. After a minute or two, I noticed a really bad burning smell. Smoke came off the blade and the kerf area turned a bit brown (burned). The blade was flaming hot after each 20-30 seconds of cutting. I checked the blade insertion. Fine. Check all settings...fine. It took me about an hour and a half to do a cutout large enough for a tiny air conditioner. By the time I was done, the blade was black and partly blue. I called the mfgr. and a helpful rep. called me back and told me that was common-that many people couldn't get through this even with a corded jig saw. For me, that means this product is immediately excluded for many projects. The rep. told me many routers can't get through this product either. He didn't tell me whether it would damage your router bit or not. He said a table saw or Skilsaw are the only cutting tools you want to use on this. He said it was because it was about 70% hardwood. So if you need density, this is good. Just don't expect results if use a jig saw or router on it. Would've been nice to know this beforehand.

can this be used as shelving if so how much weight can it hold?

Yes you can use for shelving. As too weight would depend on brackets used and spacing.
