With Energy History and Home Report, you can see how much energy you use and why.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from just Phenomenal I bought it on Boxing day, installed same day and using it for past almost 7 months, can't say enough - simple installation, compatibility with our furnace and AC system, easy to set up and use, beautiful and simple design. Integration with other Google devices - simple and quick, NEST app and ability to control the functionality - awesome.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Understand lack of features before you buy! I received this product has a gift in December and am disappointed in the lack of basic features. So far I have three primary complaints, two of which are available on basic electronic thermostats but somehow have been overlooked in a premium device such as the Google Nest. The first is the ability to temporarily hold a temperature, while I understand that the purpose of a programmable thermostat is to have the device manage the temperature, there are times when holding a temperature is needed. The other compliant is the inability to shut-off the furnace and leave the circulating fan running. In bumper seasons I like to just leave the fan on and have windows open, the only way to achieve this is to reprogram the temperature ranges such that the furnace or a/c does not come on when windows are open. The 3rd compliant is the user interface for temperature programming is inefficient. For example, it's not feasible to enter a single temperature range and have it apply to all days of the week, instead each day needs to be programmed individually. Hopefully I can return this device for a refund!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Be aware. This device does not last long. Be aware. This device does not last long. Even if the hardware is fine the version may not be supported. I purchased a version 2 Nest thermostat few years ago. Everything was fine until few months ago when I found it offline. It means that the function to control it remotely does not work. It connects to Wi-Fi, reports itself being online but it is not capable to connect to Nest server to get updates or generate the application key. I tried with Nest support to fix it for more than one hour with no result. The conclusion was I need a newer version. Suddenly when I asked for a discount for the replacement the call dropped. I really expected for the price I paid (almost $300) a longer life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nest Simple install - works great and the remote functions from the app are amazing

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Count the wires Over all the nest thermostat is a well designed product easy to use, easy 5o install with all tools required and a bubble level provided in box for installation. However before buying the thermostat make sure you have a minimum 3 wire connection behind your exsisting thermostat with a "common" wire present if not you will need to upgrade. Not running a common wire can lead to short cycling of the blower motor. After upgrading i had no problems would recommend product to others

Every year at the change of season we must disconnect our Nest and reinstall our old thermostat in order to get air conditioning to work. Thoughts or suggestions?  We’ve had much difficulty getting support directly from Nest.

Can you control the cycle time when heating up with a gas furnace? If the furnace runs too long it can over heat and crack the heat exchanger. My furnace already runs at least 10 minutes to heat 1 degree Celsius.

    Asked by: Sandwichstealer
You can pretty well control what you wish. The thermostat learns from the schedule you use. Ifyou wish the furnace to heat up slowly you can do that .  Keep in mind that if you are not at home the Nest will sense no one is at home and go into economode  and pick a temperature that will not use energy whether it be heat or cooling .  I like the fact that  you have the ability to control the thermostat from your phone or tablet from anywhere.  I have never had an issue with my furnace being on fo more than 10 minutes . Hope this  helps.

Does this thermostat know whether to use heat or air conditioning depending on what is needed throughout the day to maintain the temperature?

    Asked by: Ms_Harley
It does, when it's on the heat/AC mode. When it's in just Heat or just AC, it will only activate that particular unit. When it's on dual, it gives a 4 degree window and will activate the appropriate unit when it falls above or below that window.

does it come with a sensor like the ecobee does? I'm trying to decide between the two

    Asked by: CMB5
A sensor is not included but can be purchased separately. Although I do believe that after I purchased my Nest thermostat I did see a combo deal for slightly less than what it would have cost to buy the two individually. You can keep an eye out for a special offering.
