Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great camera but not good for Canadian weather The nest devices are great with respect to their capabilities, support, etc. Unlike the RING camera which has operational issues (slow response/notifications, only record a few seconds then shuts off, etc.) the Nest camera continuously records, has IQ features, etc. Better product for security by a long shot. However, it has one issue that makes it NOT a good choice here in Canada. Nest Hello is designed to work in temperatures from –10° to 40°C. Pretty much means this camera is useless as a security device in the winter. Quite common for temp to drop below -10 in Canada during winter months.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Its useless if you dont pay for subscription Google has it figured with the Nest products to get more money out of you. The doorbell was awesome when we had the free trial. Now that its expired its pretty useless. Unless you sit and watch it live on your phone, you cant even rewind the feed 5 minutes to see who was there. We have the fastest internet you can get and the doorbell notification to my phone has about a 10 second delay. I expected more for the price you pay. I believe these are 10+ year old tech now, and would expect a new improved version or upgrade offered, but looks like this is all you can get. Overall I am disappointed with the product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Regret Purchasing I purchased 2 of these in Feb 2020 and they were installed in March. Now, only a few months out of warranty the plastic is peeling off the units (both on covered porches.) Google is NO help, because it’s just outside of warranty. This is a WELL known issue. If you do a google search for “google hello peeling” you will find HUNDREDS of other complaints of this exact same thing happening. Google knows it’s happening and they have not corrected the issue. This is a major flaw. A company charging $300 per doorbell should NOT have such substantial issues, then hang customers out to dry.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quality of Construction and Customer Service I purchased this Google door bell based on its good reviews. It's working as expected. The reason for the poor review is, its quality of materials and construction. It's a year and a half old and the face of it is delaminating very badly. I called Google for help and the CSR told me, “it's out of warranty and to go buy a new one" I'm writing this to inform potential purchasers to not waste $299.00. Just don't buy it, the quality of materials and construction doesn't stand up. Their customer service response is just as bad.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Made For Canadian Climate! After reading several pre-release professional/tester reviews of the product I decided to purchase one shortly after the release date. I found the installation to be fairly straightforward and the instructions Nest provided were easy to follow. Once installed the camera worked flawlessly until the temperature started to drop overnight. The lower operating temperature of the device is -10 degrees celicus. Once the temperature neared -10 the device continuously froze and would not record / function. I contacted the Nest customer support line and the representative confirmed that the device is only rated for -10 degrees celicus and that the unit would most likely malfunction at temperatures near or below -10. I’m not sure why Nest would make a product with such an unrealistic temperature rating and attempt sell it in a market where temperatures routinely go well below the -10 threshold especially in the winter months??? That said, I’m not sure why Home Depot Canada would carry this product for the same reasons?? All that to say, I am very disappointed with the product for the reasons listed above and will be returning the product. I would highly recommend that everyone avoid this product and would hope that Hone Depot will remove it from their shelves to product their customers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Money Aside from easy installation of the device, there is nothing great I can really say about it aside from it’s stylish and slim design. Like the other reviewer mentioned, as soon as the temperature overnight starts to drop near -10°, the doorbell stops working and freezes up. I also contacted Nest support and they were not able to provide any assistance. They told me that the doorbell is only engineered and designed to work in temperatures as low as -10° and said that they could not guarantee that the device would work in temperatures below that. The Nest support representative also told me that their engineers are aware of this issue as they have already had a large number of complaints regarding the device failing in low temperatures since its release. Another issue I have with the device is that it consumes an extremely large volume of data. On the very low end of the spectrum Nest advises that the device will require 30 GB of data per month to record in low-quality definition video, and an excess of 300 GB per month when streaming and recording in high-quality video (that’s right, I said 300 GB!!). This is something that should be considered when purchasing this device as it may cause data overages with your Internet service provider.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great hardware; useless software Hardware: beautiful design, thoughtfully packaged complete with requisite parts, effortless to install. Video quality is superb, microphone able to pick up conversation even across the street. But...1 star. Zero if I could; people ask me about it, and I just can't recommend in good conscience. Why? Everything goes through the app. You get a doorbell notification on your phone soon enough, about 3 - 10 seconds (and the doorbell also rings), but takes anywhere from 15 - 30 seconds to bring up a video feed and audio link. Add to this a few seconds overhead to pull out your phone, pass through phone security, and callers, particularly delivery people, have given up and left. I'm only kept this because I got it immediately when it came out, it's only been on the market a couple months, and I'm hoping server response time will get better. But if you haven't bought one, don't touch it until the Nest support forums cease to be flooded with customers enraged over this issue, as well as Nest's inaction. You've been warned.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t be fooled Don’t be fooled by its good looks. If you don’t pay for a subscription Nest makes the video connectivity in the app utterly useless so expect to pay $50 extra for a subscription. Lost connection to my high end dual band router almost daily and it was less than 10 feet away from it. You can’t reconnect to it until you get home so it sits offline and renders it useless. After 3 months it completely disconnected and I wasn’t able to reconnect with my iPhone. Returned it. Until they figure out the connectivity issues I won’t bother. And it’s not even winter yet.

Can someone please tell me if it performs well on Cold Canadian winters. Thanks

Asked by: Giraldilla
Don’t purchase this if your in Canada and especially Westen Canada because it doesn’t perform in cold weather ie…-15degrees C and below. Only reason to buy would be if your prepared to remove it when the extreme cold weather hits and reinstall when it warms up. I believe all Vid Doorbells have this issue…threw out my 2.5yr old Nest doorbell and checking other products.

Has the Doorbell cameras improved in cold weather. I live in Alberta and reading past posts about cameras not working in temperatures below minus 15.

I live in Northern Ontario, I have absolutely no trouble with this camera. Expect on extremely cold days when it is -35 or below

My wired Nest Hello has started acting up, in that if someone rings the bell, the camera goes offline for a minute or two (some have attributed this online to an internal battery issue within the unit). Can I just install a new outside pushbutton portion?
