Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install. Works great Not sure what the other reviewers are talking about. I didnt expect to have quality cloud recording of my video for free. Still way cheaper than what security companies charge. As for Canadian wireless. Doesnt affect the camera in the least. I live in northern Alberta and my wifi router is in my basement and camera is at least 40ft away outside front of house. Camera work great on either 2.4ghz or 5ghz. Maybe its the other users internet provider. Camera was easy to install and set up. Clear pick night or day and gives acurate notifications for movement in set areas. Links great with my indoor cam and nest thermostat on the nest app. Def reccomend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty easy Generally easy to install. I wanted the power cord to go inside my house so I had to drill the 7/8 holes through my stucco. That was the hardest job. The rest was pretty easy. I covered the cable outdoors with a metal cover where the cable was accessible by anybody. I felt it made it made it more secure from anyone who wanted to cut it. I am not a techie so had a little difficulty with the programming but after a few tries I got it figured out. It is working perfectly now. It is actually pretty amazing how clear the picture is both day and night. I get notifications on my phone every time someone enters the driveway and there is a time shown on the screen on my cell phone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Intermittent & requires monthly fee for recording Purchased the Nest Cam Outdoor unit and shortly after it was installed, it became intermittent. Sometimes you could view it and at other times it was unresponsive. Sometimes it would alert you to movement and at other times it didn't. Also, the interval between alerts is far to long (if you missed the first alert, it wouldn't alert you again for ten or so minutes later...hardly helpful if someone is breaking in). And you can't adjust the alert interval. Also, you need to purchase a monthly account ($10 or $30 per month) if you want any kind of recorded history (and an additional $5 per month for each camera). If you are looking for a good outdoor security camera, this isn't it. I'm returning it today.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy installed, great quality and features I can understand why some people are complaining about the intermittent connectivity issues with this product as I myself had some signal issues when first setting it up. In fact, it wouldn't connect to my wifi at all when I first took it outside to mount it up front. This isn't a problem with the camera though and a little tweaking of my routers 2.4ghz frequency channel settings boosted my routers range enough to reliably have the cam connected in and to start streaming. Quality is great and it doesn't really need the speeds of the 5ghz freq (at least from what I've seen), so you're not missing out by not having that option in Canada. Nest aware is great with the notifications you can get. Super simple to setup an area to watch for activity in. Only con for me is with the power cables. They're great if you're plugging it in to an outdoor outlet, but you're going to have to put a pretty decent size hole in your wall if you'd rather power it via an indoor outlet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nest Cam Outdoor - Not Great! I bought this unit and received it yesterday as I was always thrilled with the operation of my thermostat and Nest Cam (indoor). I have to admit, I didn't anticipate any problems, but was I wrong. My local cable company is providing my internet service and it's very quick 150Mbps down and 15Mbps up. I have zero connectivity problems in my home on their 5Ghz network. It seems though, in Canada outdoor units are not allowed to connect on the 5Ghz network, only 2.4Ghz. Where I've installed my camera (10 feet away from my router with one exterior wall and window) I only am able to achieve 7Mbps on the 2.4Ghz network vs. 111Mbps on the 5Ghz network. Now this is all very technical but long story short, the camera doesn't want to keep connected to my network. I will move to return this camera and I wouldn't recommend you purchase this unit in Canada given it's wireless limitations.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for Urban Nerds Think twice before you buy. Excellent technology, but with issues. Nest veils the need for a $100/year subscription to Nest Aware in order to review recorded video. Searches for Nest info on Google (who own Nest) seem to avoid discussion groups and Nest’s own user community group has been disabled. Nest documentation does not reveal that the camera’s motion sensor can’t be used unless the camera is streaming video (30Gb/month), so my intention of turning on the camera only if motion is detected at our rural property is axed ($110/month LTE). Nest’s support line does not know if the indoor ‘Nest Detect’ motion sensor can see through glass or if Nest partner’s sell an outdoor sensor. The Nest Skybell has a motion sensor, but spec’s don’t mention if streaming is necessary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera…easy installation I already have a Google Nest Doorbell so I am familiar with their products and installation. I bought the Outdoor cam to show my driveway and it doesn’t disappoint! The hardest part of the install is find placement of the metal plate to hold the camera to the wall. I found having two people (one to hold the camera) and the other to look at the app made it a lot easier. Google gives you everything in the box to attach the wires (clips, screws and wall anchors). The cords are very long which makes it easy to run to a power source. I am ecstatic with this new camera! I highly recommend it.

How close does the electric plug have to be? How does it tie in to the system? Do I need an electrician to attach it?

The cord is pretty long, 30’ or something. And as long as you’re ok with screwing screws, you’re ok, they give you all the material to do the job. To connect it to Wi-Fi you just make sure the Wi-Fi is on and then you scan the wf code on the back of the camera. Best to plug the camera in, set it up on your Wi-Fi and then install it.

3 foot night vision distance?  Could this be the closest distance the camera can focus? I have a Nest doorbell and the range is fine.

Night Vision range depends on how much light there is, but most Nest cameras have a range of about 20 feet in the dark. The Nest Hello video doorbell can see up to 6 feet in the dark to focus on guests at your door. If there are any light sources in the area, your camera may be able to see even farther.

You can monitor this camera from a laptop - but the connection is through the cloud. Consider significant costs to access the cloud application and BIG bandwidth requirements - up to 380GB per month.

I want to install one camera at both my house and my cottage. Is there any reason I can't buy a two-pack and put one camera in each location? If I subscribe to the monthly service, would I need two accounts for this?

You will only need one account and one active Nest Aware subscription for both your Nest cameras as long as their on the same home structure, using the same network.
