Just turn it up and down. The Google Nest Learning Thermostat learns the temperatures you like and creates a custom schedule for your home. Nest automatically turns itself down after you leave so you're not heating or cooling an empty home. You can control it from anywhere using your phone, tablet or laptop. And Energy History lets you see how much energy you use and why. In independent studies, Nest thermostats saved an average of 10% to 12% on heating bills and 15% on cooling bills. That means it can pay for itself in under two years.[1]

This system controls your temperature in the house through learning your habits. Already my electric bill has gone down. You can also set your own schedule through the Nest app on your phone or your computer. At night if i want a little cooler, i just get my phone and go through the nest app and change it. Easy Peasy! I am also 67 years old woman and installed the Google Nest by myself. I watched their video on YouTube and also read the instructions. Very simple to install. I give Google Nest the highest rating! I also plan on installing the Google Nest Secure for my home security.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nest did it again! Upgraded from 2nd Generation Nest. The installation was even easier this time. Although the product screen is larger, I was expecting to have to drill more holes in the walls. Nope. All I had to do was level and connect. Couldn't be easier than that. Looks great--er, better than previous. Still I have one minor gripe. My Wireless Network is hidden and has a "space" in the name of it. To input it manually takes a bit of time and it drove me crazy the first time to find the "space" through it's character set. But that's the only negative for me, personally. If you are considering buying one and only need a generic thermostat, don't buy it. However, if you like technology at it's finest, look no further.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good looking, but brainless. We've had this for a year now, and there's exactly one reason we haven't ripped it off the wall: it looks great. Compared to anything else on the market, it's a Tesla car vs some 4 cylinder econobox. As a thermostat though? Supposedly, a "learning thermostat", a year's experience has me convinced it has a random number generator, sometimes producing random temperature settings, sometimes with absurd results - heating up to 80 degrees, and just now, wondering why the house felt so cold, found it trying to cool to 67 degrees. You'll find yourself wishing you'd never married this thing and instead just bought a basic $25 thermostat. Really.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product can never do what you think it should The product is basically junkware. The product is so fundamentally flawed and overpriced. While you think this unit is driven by AI it is a pile of junk. If you have a 2 stage furnace this thing cannot ever figure out when to engage stage 2 heat because 1. It does not know the heat loss of the structure. 2. It does not utilize outside temperatures and calculate the Delta T to understand that stage is required. This dumb as a bag of rocks product will sit at stage 1 forever wasting energy. You would almost think this pile of junk was put together by the energy sector to further rob the public. On top of all of this nonsense it is over $300.

If you have a 2 wire heating system, which is common with older homes with forced hot air, it can cause your furnace to malfunction. The issue is that it the Nest needs to draw power from 2 (W1 and Rh), it only does it when the heat is on. It caused my furnace to click constantly like it was getting a intermittent signal. It would get the fan going and the furnace heat going but the heat/gas would cut out and then just blow cold air. What a shame. I hope this did not damage my furnace. I really loved the interface, the look and the IOS app. What I need is a C wire to power the Nest separately. This is going back and I am going with a cheap Honeywell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Has really helped with heating and cooling I bought this to replace a cheap thermostat that was causing my furnace to run for hours on end. I have to say that in the month that I have had this I have only used max 2 hours a day of cooling and less than an hour of heat. Granted this is during October. The Nest really helps take the guess work out of heating an cooling. I love how you can set your temperatures on a schedule. The auto away function also helps immensely while I'm at work. It stays on auto away until I get home even though the schedule is set to change a few minutes before I arrive home. The setup only took 30 minutes and that was due to not having one of the wires inserted properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic unit, as advertised. Simply put, this thing is fantastic. It was incredibly easy to install (2 wires) into my 1958-built home and took all of 5 minutes including the back plate and all. It DOES tend to display a couple degrees or so higher than what I believe the actual temp to be, but so what? You set it to 72 instead of 70...big deal. And honestly, the technology in this thing is so much more advanced than my older-tech programmable remote that I believe THAT one was probably wrong. With this thermostat installed, my home has been FAR better at keeping a consistent temp without constantly running the heat at full blast. Fantastic purchase. Highly recommended.

Please disconnect circuit to thermostat. It is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and easy to read in color. I love the feature of being able to see the weather (outside temperature) and icons for sun, cloudy, rain, etc. More valuable info than setting it on clock. However, my unit will not connect the app to use remotely on my phone. I heard this is an issue; but I didn't purchase it for that. It will learn when I am not home and adjust the temperature based on my personal settings. Plus, it earns you an rebate from your power company!

Do I need to turn power off at the main breaker?

Main breaker, do I need to switch off power during installation?
Asked by: Keith
It's easier to just turn off switch on side of furnace. Or the breaker on the front of an electric furnace and heat pump air handler.

Can the thermostat be adjusted manually at the wall? If I don’t have access to my device E.G.cell phone or tablet, can it still be adjusted?
Asked by: Jillo
Yes, it can be easily adjusted manually at the wall. You just turn the dial clockwise to raise the temperature or counter clockwise to lower the temperature.

heating only feature

Can the nest be used for heating only? Also the hard wired carbon monoxide and smoke detector alerts you when something detected wifi
Asked by: Curious
Yes the Nest thermostats will work on a heat only system. They work with any system that has a standard thermostat with C wire. I am not sure what you mean by smoke detectors detecting if something connected to wifi. They are smoke and CO2 detectors NOT network monitors/

Is this thermostat will work without Internet service. Just in my wifi area from my router? Thanks

Asked by: AP
You need to have internet service to your WiFi router, but the thermostat doesn’t require a separate service. It will log-in to your existing WiFi, and then you can control it from your phone remotely.

My furnace is old 1995 will the nest work with it?

Asked by: KK
As long as your current wiring at the existing thermostat is compatible with the Nest, then this would be expected to work. You can check for compatibility here: https://nest.com/support/article/How-to-tell-if-your-heating-and-cooling-system-will-work-with-the-Nest-Thermostat

How difficult are these to install? Are the installation instructions hard to understand

Asked by: Vernon
Use the compatibility checker before you buy your Nest to ensure it will work with your system. Assuming it does... These are very easy to install, in my opinion. I'm a frequent but average DIYer. Nest does a good job of making things easy. I'd recommend thinking of the install in 2 steps. First, you have to install the unit and get the furnace/AC running again. Then, once you've done that, whenever you have time, you need to set the unit up on the app. I'd say 30 minutes or less for each will be enough in most cases, but your results may vary depending on your ease removing the old thermostat, if replacing one.
