Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hi humidity and temp cause malfuntion While I like the Nest Protect and system, we have five, when the humidity is very high and the temperature too, the Nest Protect reports it needs a cleaning and should be replace. So we just take out the batteries on high heat/humidity days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to my home Do to the expense, I'm only installing one in the main floor of my house. Installation was easy and quick. Installing the baseplate took no time. Connecting to the app was easy. The features within the Nest app are laid out well. I do with the Protect could communicate via the red wire to my other smoke detectors. I would like to protect to be available in the Google Home app. It would be great if the protect could use my Google Home speakers to alarm us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great product that was very easy to setup. I really like the Nest Protect as it makes it much easier to know what is happening with my smoke detectors and they give me a better sense of security since I can see when checks happen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Très bon produit Je recommande fortement ce produit, facile à installer et à configurer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nest Protect Smoke Alarm Review I purchased 5 Nest Protect Smoke Alarms. Two of them wired to replace older ones and three battery that were refurbished from the Google Store. The install is really easy, even for the wired ones. They passed all tests and it is nice that they communicate with each other to tell you where the emergency is. You can set them up to turn on a light when you pass under them which is good for hallways and indicates at least they have power. The Nest application is great for monitoring and notifications. Fortunately I have not had a real emergency, so I cannot comment on their smoke detection reliability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zero false alarms I purchased my first 2 Nest Protects around 3 years ago in hope of finding a solution to the early morning false alarms. I have tried multiple brands before buying these. I have never had a false alarm with the Nest. I eventually replaced all the detectors with the Nest Protect.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Like it a lot. Could be better. I’ve been a customer since the first versions. Would be nice if the base plates would remain compatible across releases. The iOS software used to be wonderful but is showing signs of neglect, age, and a failure to adhere to Apple design language. I’m dedicated to the Nest ecosystem now but there are better, less expensive offerings. Overall a good product that will keep my family safe but the complete experience is lacking and a bit of a disappointment.

Does anyone know if this product is compatible with BC Building code? Thanks

Asked by: DaveA
Hi DaveA, Nest Protect complies with the safety standards set out by the Canadian Standards Association. Please take a look at the following smoke and carbon monoxide alarm standards that Nest Protect complies with: - CSA 6.19-01 - “Residential carbon monoxide alarming devices” - CAN-ULC-S531-02 “Standard for Smoke Alarms” If your province follows the national standards, then Nest Protect would be compatible, however we recommend reaching out to BC local authorities for further details.

Yes, they are both compatible with each other. I have one wired and 2 battery nest units. If you have Alexa, you can test, track battery levels and much more. Highly recommended.

How well does the nest smoke alarm/co2 detector work when smoke detectors should be at the ceiling to detect heat rising...& co2 should be at floor level?

Asked by: nshangi
As a professional firefighter who deals with this stuff, I can tell you that carbon monoxide (CO, not CO2) has a molecular weight slightly lighter than air. Once CO levels start building in your home, it will be found in all parts of the home (if you have a forced air system). Therefore, it is my opinion that having the NEST Smoke/CO alarm installed on your ceiling is perfectly safe. So many people think CO alarms need to be near the floor, because many alarms are plug-in units, which are generally found on the wall, just above the floor.
