I am able to hang both together, back to back, on one hook in my storage closet... they don't stick out to far. It is rated for 225 lbs, Medium Duty Commercial use but seems sturdier than this rating. I really like the 3rd step for reaching things in the cupboard above my stove or the top, top shelf in my clothes closets.
