Rated 3 out of 5 by from Straws break far too easily Spray foam itself is great, creates an air tight insulation for your windows and doors. But the straws break too easily and create an absolute mess. My pro gun recently broke so I picked up five cans do our current build and four out of the five broke. One wouldn’t stay screwed down to the can. The pressure was enough to twist off the straw. The major issue I had though was the straw breaking at the trigger with the slightest bend, then leaking everywhere making it unusable. Three cans did it. Spray foam is great when it goes where you want, but like caulking (just worse) when it gets on places you don’t want it, it’s horrendous to deal with.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Brutal.!!! Followed all the directions.. (as a very seasoned 40 year DYI GUY) The new valve simply did not work.. Contacted DuPont Contact Center .. Got back to me with a "canned version of what I did wrong" . No follow up.. Brutal. never again!!!! Made a huge mess and now have to go and finish job!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked way better than the competitor So I’ve used other products from Dap and they worked just fine. I wanted to fill a gap around a sliding door and it had two problems. One it didn’t adhere to the sides very well; possibly it would work in cracks without a gravity issue. Two it didn’t completely harden. After 24 hours I wend back to Home Depot and bought the Great Stuff. It stuck well and hardened in 24 hours. At the 48 hour mark I cut both products away. The Dap was still sticky in the middle and made a mess. The Great Stuff hardened nicely and didn’t make a sticky mess because it stayed where I applied it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Same great foam much better straw I've used Great Stuff before, but this is the first time I've tried it with their new Smart dispenser. What a great improvement. No mess, precise control.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible new dispenser The new dispenser on these is absolutely terrible. They constantly have leak issues. The pressure will spin them off the can and make a mess. They much thicker then the old plastic ones which is a pain to deal with. If I ever have to use great stuff again I will be ordering dispensers on Amazon to replace faulty new dispensers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from "Smart" Dispenser??? For a Smart Dispenser, it is not very solid. I have seen reviews commenting on the connection to the can. That did not fail but the connection from the trigger to the wand sure did. Only got about 2' along the crack when it happened so still lots left in the can. Will see what happens with the next can.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Must fully engage dispenser I've used about 10 cans of this now replacing all the windows in a renovation project. The smart dispenser works fine if it is fully threaded on (see picture). If the smart dispenser does not fully thread it will all flow out the handle like other reviewers had said. I only gave 4 stars as one of the cans had the threading issue, in this case the nozzle from the can will just spin and will not thread into the dispenser. As far as the product it has done a great job of sealing the airspace around the windows, will be purchasing again for the next house!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage dispenser Dispenser pops off and made the biggest mess ever. Don't buy this garbage.

I removed my old caulking around my outside windows and doors and would like the fill the gaps before recaulking. Will this product work well in filling gaps approx 1" wide before sealing?

Asked by: Alex
This is an expandable foam so it will get into nooks and crannies. Once cured, excess can be trimmed. For outdoor application, I’d want to make sure it was well sealed to keep moisture from getting into it. It should be noted that this, in my experience, will not provide a rigid substrate. I used it, interior, to fill the gaps created around a window, created by shims. Hope this helps.

Hi, when it says"Repels/deflects water" in description, does that mean this product is good for small water proofing purposes? I want to use this product to fill the gap of my outside wall and the ground concrete around the house, the gap is almost half

Asked by: Patrick
Hi Patrick, Great Stuff™ Insulating Foam Sealant products are an air sealant product that is water resistant, not water proof. Great Stuff™ products are very sensitive to UV light. Exposure to UV light, even indirect sunlight will cause the foam to darken to an orange or reddish brown color in a matter of days or weeks. Constant exposure to direct sunlight will eventually cause the foam to break down and crumble apart. The foam must be painted or coated with a UV resistant coating if used outdoors.

I used it to insulate my door when I installed my Portable ac unit.  How can i take out the foam now? It is cured

Asked by: Judy
Hello - Great Stuff™ Insulating Foam Sealant products will chemically bond to just about all surfaces in a matter of minutes. Once cured, it cannot be removed with solvents and the only option is mechanical removal. On hard, smooth, or polished surfaces this may be accomplished very carefully with a single-edged razor blade. A more aggressive approach such as steel wool or sandpaper will damage the underlying surface.

Can this be used around an outside door that is used all day.    The rubber seal around door is ripped in places from my cat scratching at door inside,,, wondered f I took the rubber seal off and used this instead

Asked by: Brenda
Hi Brenda, while it is possible it could be used in this application, the product was not designed for this application and was designed to be used around window and door frames under the trimming for air sealing. If used in this application please know that GREAT STUFF™ Insulating Foam Sealant products will chemically bond to just about all surfaces in a matter of minutes, as such if it is not given enough time to fully cure your door might get sealed shut. As such we would not recommend using our product for your application.

What steps are being taken to resolve the nozzle issues? Not screwing down far enough to lock in place, popping off and leaking. I bought 12 cans recently and 9 of them would not lock in place creating a big mess. Each time this happens I lose product.

Asked by: Ruby
Hello Ruby - Thank you for sharing your concerns with us regarding Great Stuff™ Insulating Foam Sealant with the Smart Dispenser™. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered. Based on your description, this is not how the nozzle is designed to operate. There are two black tabs at the bottom of the trigger part of the dispenser, that need to engage the valve. Once engaged, the Smart Dispenser™ will not spin off. If you can remove the Smart Dispenser™, try installing the dispenser again. If the dispenser does not lock on, don't use it, return to place of purchase for exchange or refund. We are also compiling all feedback provided by customers and sharing it with manufacturing to use towards future improvements.

Can I use a patching compound on it to make it even and then pur paint on it. This is for the outdoor window project

Asked by: bob27
Hello bob27, We do not have data to support the use of a patching compound but Great Stuff™ products can be cut with a knife to level out. Great Stuff™ products can be painted with any commonly available latex paint. Avoid petroleum or oil based paints as they might partially dissolve the foam. The foam must be painted or coated with a UV resistant coating if used outdoors

What is the lowest recommended temperature that this product can be used outdoors? Thanks.

Asked by: TCK12
Hello Drew - For the Window and Door, we would suggest sticking to the recommended range of 16°-32°C. The Great Stuff™ Window and Door product has more open cell content than the rest of the Great Stuff™ Insulating Foam Sealants and needs temperatures in the recommended range to perform best.

Can this be use to seal small cracks and to seal around 2x4 frame before installing fiberglass insulation?

Asked by: CoffeeX
Hi CoffeeX, We would recommend using GREAT STUFF™ Fireblock rather than GREAT STUFF™ Window & Door. Make sure to let the product fully cure (8 hours) before installing any insulation!
