No, it’s hollow within with no support. You might be able to sit on it, but it’ll definitely start bending or warping when you shift around while sitting.

Can I put a fire pit on top of this unit while keeping the tank inside?

I wouldn't do this - if you have a leak in your hose or connection your going to have an issue. Propane is heavier than air and later turns to vapor. By putting this on top of the housing unit it adds weight creating a possibility of tipping over easier.
